Your tutorials are the best. I had to take a temporary break from violin lessons but these are keeping me motivated and helping me stay in tune when I practice. Please make more! My only request is more intermediate ones. I am so thankfully beyond hot cross buns 😂
Great to hear that these are helping you stay motivated! I'd love to make more intermediate level videos - they definitely take longer to make though, so I usually do a few easier beginner ones in between. Any suggestions for anything you'd like to see?
Can you do a tutorial on warm-up routines? I start with open bowing on all strings. Then, I do "marching" with my fingers on the fingerboard. Fianlly, I end with scales. Is there more I can be doing? I'm 73 and just started violin about 3 months ago.
That's a good idea! I often change my warmups depending on how I'm feeling or what I'm working on, but I always start with open strings, and then very slow scales that I slowly speed up. Then I'll often use different bow strokes or bow divisions with the scales. I think the key with warmups is to really know what you're paying attention to for each exercise, and keep it simple enough to be able to focus on those fundamentals. Also a non-playing related tip to feel warmed up faster, especially in the winter, is just to wash your hands with warm water (or do the dishes!) before playing. But I'll see if I can do a video with some more specific ideas! What is that you want to get out of warmups? Do you want to feel warmed up so your fingers are limber enough to play the pieces you're working on, or do you want to have more specific exercises to develop better technique?
If you could do a video on warm-ups, I want to play as well as you do some day. Show us what you do and tell us what each warm-up should accomplish. I think bowing on open strings is important to get the feel of where the bow needs to be. I think scales are also important. My instructor told me that quite often there will be scales in new pieces of music I am trying to learn. Wish you lived in Indianapolis!!!! Thank you for everything you are doing to help us newbies get better.
Wooooow, thank you so much 😮😮😮❤ I love how you play the violin 🎻
