    what makes this moment one of the most powerful moments in the whole trilogy was that this was the first time you actually "failed"! Think about it, in the previous moments like Virmire and Tuchuncka, even though you tragically lost a friend, you still accomplished your goal, so their death wasn't in vain. Here, not only do the Reapers conquer and annihilate a whole planet, but you lost the very thing you were trying to recover, meaning that the planet almost died for nothing!
    This is a really powerful scene sure, but I do want to ask though, why does Liara approach Shepard to comfort him? Wouldn't it make more sense during that part if Liara just broke down and Shepard just stares in defeat while your other squadmate comforts Liara? I mean, this was her HOME!

      Because even that Liara loses her homeworld she understands that Shepard would blame himself for this, and she knew even Shepard need someone's support sometimes, this feels even stonger when they are in romance. Same were after Mars, she knew that Shepard were devastated with losing Kaiden/Ashley.

    The biggest issue I had with this mission was liaras quip going into the temple about maybe next time the alliance could spring for air support. Which in my playthrough I'd be like um no asari helped us on earth as we got decimated. And didnt I sacrifice a third of the human fleets to save the council?

    • @rebel1717

    Holy crap! this mission truly made me feel defeated. The odds truly felt against in this one mission. The beginning of the game was pretty bleak as well, but at least Anderson and Earth's resistance are still fighting. The Asari were pushed to planetary evacuation, and all of that sacrifice was in vain. Also, let's not forget Commander Shepard, the galaxy's badass, actually sounded scared when he said "I'm sorry" to the Asari Councilor.

    The asari hid this from EVERYONE for thousands of years. The demanded we hand over everything similar, but they didn't have to. They could have learned of the Reapers. They could have been more open when things got bad, they could have acted earlier than the start of 4th quarter and Cerberus would have had other work to do, or not sent Shepard there at all.
    F the asari. I never trusted them anyway. They brought this on themselves.

      They did not demand anyone hand over anything. They let humanity keep the Mars Archives, and let other species keep their own Prothean tech.
      And no, they couldn’t have learned of the Reapers. Like everyone else, they struggled to fully decipher the information in the beacon. They had that thing for thousands of years, and they still couldn’t figure out how to wake it up

    • @95DarkFire
      @95DarkFire 3 года назад +1

      No. It is a bullshit argument.
      Trying to destroy the Reapers is safer then trying to control them.
      The reapers can be destroyed, the only question is if we have enough power to do it.
      Wit hcontrol we don't even know if it is possible.

    • @Samyall99
      @Samyall99 3 года назад +1

      @@95DarkFire Destroying the Reapers has always been Shepard’s goal.
      The Illusive Man, now indoctrinated, has changed. He wants to control the Reapers.
      Shepard himself says to the Catalyst - ‘So, the Illusive Man was right all along’
      Through the power of the Crucible, the Reapers ‘can’ be controlled. They can also be destroyed
      Maybe it doesn’t add to the IT. From a personal perspective, I like to think that is the canon ending

    I have a love/hate relationship with Thessia mission. It’s great to see Shepard fail, for once, and in turn have that failure set fire under his/her ass. BUT I detest the circumstances of said failure. No way, NO WAY Leng is more powerful than Liara. And if you add Javik to the mix - hands down the most powerful biotic in the game - Leng winning again those two characters combined + Shepard is stupid. The rendered two powerful characters useless just to let him win. Even if we don’t have Javik with us, Leng wouldn’t be winning against Liara & Shep.
    The whole situation should’ve been written differently with the same outcome - failure.
