If you're using putty, and can't find the break key, you can right click the putty window and choose special command > break

To reset a Cisco router to its factory default settings, including the password and configuration, using the Config Register 0x2142 method, follow these steps:
1. Press the break sequence (Ctrl-Break) while the router is initializing to enter ROMMON prompt.
2. Enter the command confreg 0x2142 to ignore the startup configuration and reset the router.
3. After reboot, the router will not ask for the password and will proceed to the setup wizard with a blank configuration.
This method allows you to reset the router to its original factory defaults by bypassing the startup configuration stored in NVRAM.

Does this work for any Cisco Router or only a specific model? And is this the same way that you can factory reset a cisco switch? I have two Cisco switches (2950 and 3550) and two Cisco 2621 XM routers that I'll need to factory reset.
