  • In this video i cut a piece of synthetic gem material in a hexagon shape.
    I used a piece of material that im not sure of its exact composition. I do know its not quite as hard as quartz (7 MOHS ) but a little harder than say feldspar (MOHS 6 to 6.5. It could be a variety of synthetics on the market. Chrisitanite, lazerlite, nanositol, etc.
    Synthetic materials are sold here: www.gemcutter.com
    I use an ultra tec faceting machine . They can be purchased here:
    www.ultratec-facet.com
    Im also a member here in the united states of america of the US faceting guild. www.Usfacetersguild.org. I would encourage anyone who is interested in faceting to join the guild.

    Beautiful cut, Brent. I really like that color. The demo of your depth-of-cut indicator was very nicely done. Good Job!!!

    Very nice. With that Color ,and the red flashing, this is in my opinion a synthetic tanzanite . Which is a 6-6.5 mohs . Right under quartz.

    Very nice stone you did a great job. Is the meter you showed available from any supplier? I also use a Ultra tec machine.

      Thanks, rc. Actually the meter is an old one from ebay. They were very well made and last a long time. They are easy to connect to an ultra tec. I did a short video once on it.

      @@gemfaceter Look for multi meter or ohm meter. Most made nowdays are digital but i like the old analog type with a needle that sweeps across . I think if you want one like i use look for vintage muti meter. The simpson ones are large and work well.

    Brent, how do you connect a meter to the UltraTec mast? I would assume there are meters like that available surplus somewhere?

      5 minute epoxy glue from ebay

  • @daxeah8472

    Do you use epoxy instead of wax to do the transfer because you might melt the wax from the first dopper if you used wax on both?

    • @tennpikr74
      @tennpikr74  3 года назад +1

      That is a major concern, also its just easier to use epoxy when transferring as you have the transfer jig to deal with . Although its not a big deal. I use epoxy for the first dopping at times when the stone material is heat sensitive.
