Stank-face guaranteed. Ego-obliterating, painfully amazing. Like if you're a pianist that is equal enthralled and hurt by Brad Mehldau. Awesome job June.
I appreciate the use of notating Cb△ (instead of B△ as it might appear quite often in fakebooks or amatur transcriptions) in meas 21! Keeping the root as a flat helps identify it as part of a long chain of root movement in 4ths.
You would hate my charts unless it helps reading I eliminate all unnecessary marks from the page unless it helps reading. I just wanna know where you got the maj7 triangle from?
Wow!!!! This is absolutely fantastic!! Thank you for sharing this remarkable achievement with all of us. Your dedication is downright inspiring. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
bar 391, blows my mind how he gets the high D in the melody to sound using harmonics, without actually playing it. It always pricked my ears up at that point cause it sounds like the note is in there but it sounds sort of ghostly. This is an amazing transcription.
I knew Brad quite well years back when I was his piano tuner. On one occasion, I dared ask if he could teach me anything though I was somewhere between beginning and intermediate in terms of my level in jazz playing. He predictably said he couldn't(naturally because of his super busy playing schedule) but he said I should learn this tune in 7/4 in the key of F#(uh, no, hardly likely but a testament to the level of his playing).
Wow gee that's an awful lot of work even if this transcription thing is your bag.. I seem to remember seeing other transcriptions from you huh?. I think you must have an amazing mind the kind I've never remotely possessed.
realizing just how strongly brad was influenced by the version of this song keith jarrett plays on "tribute" just elevated to another level with 7/8 goddamn lol
Damn! not only that this is an amazing work, some comments making me look out (listen/paying more attention) to very lil important details. Piano intro is killing 0:00 - 1:54. Max respect to your work from neat play (expression) to clean sound recording, the transcribed visuals (video) all that for our enjoyment? Thanks for sharing.
OMG I cannot believe you transcribed this! I know this tune almost since it was released, after I first heard of Mehldau around y2k. Great job! Side note: I just love the way he played Exit Music (for a Film) in those days, wink wink! My favorite (incomplete) live version: ruclips.net/video/F_4fiMIxO2E/видео.html
Brad Mehldau is not from this planet! I bought this record when he came out, and haven't listened to it again until a few days ago. I remember my favorite part was the accompaniment for the drum solo on All The Things You Are. It's inspired by the intro of the original song, and then there's a piano solo with that harmony. The last chord of that is very interesting. Brad usually plays E7(b9)sus4 sometimes resolving to E7, and the 13th hanging around. The scale would be the mixolydian b9, which is the fifth degree of the Major Harmonic mode, which is not very usual, but it has a sound that freaks me out. Anyone who doesn't like that interval of a tone and a half can add the augmented 9th, leaving an 8-note scale that seems to be called "JG Octatonic", "Poryllic" or" KOsian". In fact, Brad plays that note sometimes. I haven't gone through it note by note, but I'd swear it's the best transcript I've ever seen in all my life.
Technical and harmonic Tour de Force. However Evans' version has the greatest emotional force, because he's remembering Scott La Faro, who had recently died. Its is a truly beautiful memoriam.
I see that you said in the description of the video that you do not share this PDF at the moment. I´d like to know if you´re selling it and if so, I´d apreciate if you contact me, thank you. Amazing work :-)
That's an absolutely insane amount of work holy shit. You're a legend

Glad you got the "yeah" in b 147 (3:48)
Yeah, wouldn't have been worth the hours otherwise
I think this is the first transcription that I ever got lost following along with... and I got lost multiple times. This is ridiculously intricate.

Eric Fontaine Isn’t it simpler than that? It’s just the proper spelling of the IV chord in Gb major.

Isn't he playing this in 2 alternating keys, A and E ? Presumable to keep the bass in these easier and more vibrant open string keys.
Gosh, I can't imagine how long this must have taken.
Yep yep yep. One of my favourite recordings.
