I wish these were not just kept in museums but worn more often by religious sisters Every part of that habit meant something and represented consecration to God
Actually this video is full of Inaccuracies. There is no Sacred Heart of Mary! It’s the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She needs to do her homework.
Nun dolls were also used to provide a sample of the orders habit. Mother Luisita in Mexico had received a doll from another community to show her how the habit was to be made.
The blue-grey of the Srs of Notre Dame is the same fabric French military uniforms were made of. I saw a program on a military channel which said the fabric was chosen because it was inexpensive and there was a huge quantity for some reason.
I would suggest showing these items on live models. Perhaps putting the items on one at a time in the order the nun of that particular order would put them on. Another suggestion would be to have one or more Roman Catholic nuns do the commentary, while each distinct order is being modeled on a life model. Would love to see these items displayed at a museum of Catholic House so pilgrims can visit them.
What the commentator says is the "Institute of the Sacred Heart of Mary" is, in fact the Sisters of the Holy Cross of Notre Dame, Indiana. The Sisters of Mercy did NOT wear a white underveil as the doll does and the rosary has a crucifix rather than the ebony & ivory cross.
I love the different Habits, and wish they were used more often. One of the things I love about the Catholic church is the dedication to ritual over the thousands of years. There is something very comforting to attend Mass anywhere in the world and the words are the same in all churches and knowing you are saying the same words your family had said hundreds of years ago. No physical barrier of time or miles will come between you and God. However, her voice is very nasal sounded and a touch of the "Valley Girl" tone that is so annoying to listen to that it makes it hard to listen too. The music is so repetitive that it wears on you as well. All in all, it is nice to see the habits and I hope more of them appear here in the US as they are in Italy and other places in the world.
Nun dolls are historical, archival items. They were created to show the original form and color of the habit and veil in a time before color photography. Now they have become curiosities.
This video had immense potential but is marred by the sloppy, ineloquent commentary which appears to lack any real preparation and to be entirely "off the cuff".
I'd suggest that you show the patterns of the pieces individually, then show how to dress. Then show the entire uniform before and after. Its impossible to figure out what the actual pieces look like unless you came with the knowledge in advance. you also don't talk at all about how to take care of the pieces, their weight, the materials or what happens when wet.
@@dennisconkin6628 no...you are incorrect. Many of the orders are misnamed...an example at 10:25 the community is The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. This is just one of the incorrect examples in this segment. The presenter is completely unprofessional in that she dod no plausible research for this short documentary.
The narrator needs to drop the valley girl upswing in her vocal utterances. She sounds as if she's asking a question at the end of each declarative statement; sounds indecisive/unsure of the info that she's providing to the listener.
Your presentation is way off and in some instances completely incorrect. At 10:15 the community represented is The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. The motherhouse of the American sisters is in Notre Dame, Indiana. Please be more professional, if that is at all possible and correct the misinformation.
And the "Sisters of Charity" shown are neither the French Daughters of Charity nor any of the Seton Sisters of Charity. What she shows as a Daughter of Charity is the wrong colour; black instead of blue/grey. She has the story of the cornette wrong, it started as a drooping head dress and became more and more starched with time.
Very badly made, she's making it up as she goes along, no respect-they are not spoken of as "cool" or "cute", and you do not display these symbols of self-denial and humble service on department store mannequins!!!!
The presenter is completely clueless and has misnamed many communities. Example: at 10:15 this the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross whose motherhouse is at Notre Dame, Indiana...not the congregation this insipid presenter has incorrectly identified.

Every part of that habit meant something and represented consecration to God
Brian Delaney You got that right
Correction: Saint Katharine Drexel founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Philadelphia, not Baltimore.

That would be nice, but this is more about the dolls dressed in the nuns habits. She is showing the defense in habits and the doll makers.
Nun dolls are great. I would like a Carmelite one and a benedictine doll. Those orders are my pen pals and I am a tertiary member in the carmel one.😇

The photo of the sister with the band across her chin was a Colettine Poor Clare. This was/is a silent order, iirc.

She should be wearing gloves to protect the dolls from oils from her hands
I thought the nun doll with the big cornet is Sisters of the Holy Cross.
Sisters of Mercy had an under veil.

We get a full on view of the tour guide, but not of the actual habits.

I only have 17 various nun dolls...
the sinsinawa dominican habit was assembled incorrectly, I hope it was fixed
The camera is way too close to the habits to see details clearly.
most of this information is incorrect . mixing up clothing items names and how they are worn .This presenter should have done her research properly.
OMG. This woman has NO idea what she is talking about.Almost half of the orders are WRONG. She needs to do more research.

St. Clear of Assisi didn't live in the 19th century. She lived in the 13th century.
It’s very interesting please pull the camera back. All the movement is weird
😎
Rich rituals with nun's habits but not even considered as Holy Order Sacrament as I discovered when I considered becoming a nun a one time.
