    If you're in the UK, I've just bought this from Books etc for £64.55!
    No one else is cheaper.
    I'm forever buying from them.

      Books etc are brilliant mate.
      Over the last 3 years I've spent at least £3000 buying omnis from them.
      Always buy direct from them though as they sell on eBay and Amazon but at a slightly dearer price.

      It's a shame Speedyhen have raised their prices because I prefer them to booksetc (quicker delivery, better packaging imo) but I agree that books etc are now consistently the cheapest option here.

      @@w4lsh Yes they have raised them ( like all of the rest to be fair ) but they are very fast at getting the product to you...hence the name lol.
      Disagree about the packaging though.
      Speedy do pack well but so do books etc.
      I'm amazed books etc make money they are so cheap.
      I had this new X-Men Omni pre-ordered with forbidden planet due for release this wed 28th but thank god I saw this new X-Men already selling on eBay by books etc so I quickly ordered ( direct from them remember always the cheapest option ) and instantly cancelled my preorder from forbidden planet.

    The second-best run on X-Men, for my money…
    The Xorn stuff doesn’t really end up working for me (no spoilers), but it’s fun to read, at least. Everything else is really good/great. It really feels like “the world outside your window” despite some heady sci-fi concepts. Very adult. The Jean/Scott/Emma dynamic is amazing.
    These aren’t your daddy’s X-Men, but Morrison justifies that with a real sense of confidence and urgency.

    • @Avarn388
      @Avarn388 Год назад +5

      @sand7273 That always bugged me with Xorn. You can tell this run had a lot of editorial meddling towards the end, and Whedon came in and soft-rebooted with Astonishing X-men. But other than that, I liked the run for what it was.

    While I personally prefer Astonishing X-men(it's in my top ten favorite CB runs of all time, regardless of how I feel about Whedon. He was a good writer), Morrison's New X-men I liked. Quitely I always saw as weird for this run. It's strange because I loved his style in All-star Superman but here some characters, like Emma Frost, looked great while others like Wolverine, looked off. As for the writing, I mostly liked this run. It did a lot to revitalize the X-men stuff afterwards, but there were some narrative choices I wasn't down with. All in all, I'd still take this run over Houses of X/ Powers of X stuff of modern Marvel. Morrison is very out there, but his X-men stuff I argue was that done decently.

    I remember the crap that Igor Kordey got for his art at the time.
    There are a few rough bits but looking at it now I think it's largely pretty good and often spectacular.
    Yes it was very unlike 'typical' X-men art of the time but pushed Marvel to be a *bit* more adventurous in their house style.
    Also remember that he pencilled and inked entire issues in a week to get the book back on schedule after the delays from Quitely and Van Sciver.

It was years after that I returned and finally read (in it's initilal paperback printings) and really appreciated it. It's a great story overall.
    I'm not fan of Quitely's art (guess I'm alone in that too) but it's a matter of taste, the guy is a great artist ...now, Igor Kordey, man that guy should find another profession.

    Best (or worse) of this run is that it feels self contained, almost an elseworld’s X-men. Morrison showed his trademark with this one: he understands a concept and then twists it on ways that were always there but were unused - the school side of things, for example (which were done in the movie!)This run broke some new ground, let a load of stuff to explore and move forwards to and then Marvel reckoned it - ugh. Whedon’s run was fine but then they buried it all with the “event era” which since has been unmitigated crap.

  • @jordanfox2128

    Omar, your comments about Morrison’s interpretation of the characters highlights a difference I feel I have compared to many comic readers. I truly believe Morrison draws out the true nature of characters and does their research in writing the characters. For example, Morrison takes a lot of the self-doubt placed in Cyclops from decades of Marvel-style writing and helps him to grow up (becoming the confident leader that Whedon, Fraction, and many later writers are able to use). Professor X is at his all-time best during this run. He’s a benevolent, altruistic man trying to do his best, get past his many flaws, and return to finding ways to unite humankind with mutant kind. Whedon’s run, while having many strengths, resorts to character cliches far too often and resorts to an ugly past time in the X-Men line at that time: showing how “depraved” Xavier truly is (by having him enslave a newborn A.I. Xavier proceeded to become the X-Men’s whipping boy for awhile before he was replaced by Cyclops becoming the whipping boy during AvX and after. Those were true mischaracterizations of noble figures).

      @luciferfernandez7094 Год назад +3

      Well, you tell me: Cyclops has a psychic affair with Emma, cheating on Jean. There are second mutations like Emma turning into a diamond or Beast becoming Disney’s Beast. Prof X has a gun in his chair ready to kill himself in case of emergency. Wolverine does zen meditation which helps his healing power. The school becomes an actual school and student life is seen, including a mutiny lead by a nerd. New villains, like Cassandra Nova (Xavier’s evil twin, whom he killed in the womb but somehow is back) or the U-men, transhumanist who want to harvest mutant organs. That should be enough for you to know if it’s typical Morrison…

    A PASS for me. I know I'm alone on this boat and I know it might sound controversial but, IMHO, this is an overrated X-men run and to be honest this run was the main areason why I stopped collecting comic books circa 2001. I went back years later but only to read Ultimate Spider-man/ Ultimate X-men (until Ultimatum ended up with everything that was good) and besides to update my old issues/ trades to OHC/ Omnibus/ Epic collections. The only Omnibus announcement I'm really interested in is the What if 1989 omni. However, as far as I know, there's one issue missing. (Come on, don't tell me you are following chronological publication order) I hope Marvel releases The Road to Onslaught (where is that Omnibus?), Fatal Attractions (where is that reprint?), X-men forever (not the hidden years gosh, why?). I hope they release X-men forever and it includes X-men forever alpha ( X-men 1-3 and not only excerpts, I mean, the whole issue... It would be great tbe 2.0 version) and I hope they include What if minus 1 (the bishop flashback issue) in the what if 1989 upcoming volume 1. Otherwise...
