What model loco's have that loud low growl? Impressive when pulling hard. BTW I live only 100 miles from Duluth. Been there many times. Beautiful scenery along Lake Superior. :)
Brock Ole Those are characteristics of any EMD 645 engine, generally with a turbo charger and no exhaust silencer. Everything in this video that has that "growl" is an SD40 variant, which have 645s.
Ethan Hopper I mean, it *is* called the Duluth, Missabe and (Iron) Range... If you know where to look, all you'll see is ore trains. They just keep running back and forth from the mines back down to Two Harbors and Duluth. The line to Two Harbors only sees ore traffic; the line to Duluth (Proctor) see ore, stone, and bridge traffic by way of freight trains, mostly off the DWP line.
Excellent video!
awesome horns that these locomotives have
That Canadian National train at the beginning of this video has fast ditching lights. Norfolk Southern and CSX trains would do the same.
Love it up there! Bob...
awesome video man reslly liked the shots
I love trains
Who would have ever thought we'd see GE's on the DM&IR?
What happened to dmir 408s p5

Thanks. Do you know the weight of their average taconite train? Are these 80 ton cars?
What is the location at 19:50?
Still mad that the 6250 decided to shoot the train and give them such isseues north of Fairbanks....
Sweet video! Is there a lot of Iron Ore traffic up there?

NorfolkSouthernModel Mmmm, may have to take a trip up there this winter...
Thanks for the info.
Is CN replacing all the searchlights on the DMIR?
Bessemer & Lake Erie 902 Unfortunately, yes. The entire Mesabi sub from Proctor to Iron Junction was just cut over a few days ago.
+NorfolkSouthernModel Dang! That's too bad! Are they doing this in all of their American roads?
