When asked by reporter Chris Megerian about whether she would be able to step up and assume the responsibilities of the office in the light of Joe Biden's age, Harris confidently said: 'Yes.' Further elaborating, she added: 'Every vice-president understands that when they take the oath, that they must be very clear about the responsibility they may have: to take over the job of being president. I'm no different'.

Isn’t a democracy? We elect politicians to govern and pass laws. That’s called a representative democracy.
And her being chosen as VP isn’t bizarre, it makes perfect sense. She was competent and also covered many demographics needed to win. That’s what every candidate looks for in a VP. If you want to go with bizarre, look at Sarah Palin. She wasn’t even in the conversation for VP, and had zero ability to be VP or President.
The U.S. also a federal constitutional republic: federal because we have federated state governments who delegate power to a federal government, constitutional because our government is based on a constitution, and republic because the ultimate power to govern comes from the consent of the governed, as opposed to a monarchy where ultimate power is by divine right.
Democracy and republic aren’t mutually exclusive terms. Did no one pay attention in civics class?
