  • As Russian vehicles build up on the border with Ukraine near Sumy, Ukrainian artillery and drones destroy two tanks. Unusually, they were gathered with trucks and excavators.

    • @h.a.9880
      @h.a.9880 4 месяца назад +16

      I think this is true. Tanks made by russia are meant to be expandable (just like their crews), so why even bother planning to recover them? Any tank prior to the T-90M turns into fist-sized chunks when it's hit, so there is literally nothing left to salvage or recover. At best, you need a couple recovery vehicles to pick up tanks that broke down during an exercise or parade (looking at you, T-14 _Atrappa_ lol). I doubt russia ever planned to use a large fleet of pioneer vehicles or recovery vehicles on the battlefield.

      @@h.a.9880 Nominally, Russia has 3 recovery vehicles per battalion. (1 platoon of 3 and 1 or 2 MB-LT's), so they were planning on recovering their tanks after they had advanced, probably from poorly trained tankers getting stuck.
      What they didn't plan on, was needing to recover vehicles on the "front line", and that "front line" being 10's of kilometers deep thanks to drones, precision artillery, ect...

    • @h.a.9880
      @h.a.9880 4 месяца назад +1

      @@SgtBeltfed There's also another factor to consider:
      Recovery vehicles usually are based on tank hulls, meaning that they share the same engine, transmission, suspension, sights, equipment etc. with the main battle tanks used in the same unit.
      In other words: the recovery vehicles are potential parts donors for tanks. I have a hunch that the army inspectors would put a larger emphasis on asking how many tanks are in usable condition and not give much of a shit about recovery vehicles being in usable condition.
      So a tank breaks down and needs a new transmission, but you got one sitting right in one of your recovery vehicles that you barely use anyway.
      Doing maintenance work on recovery vehicels that aren't in use also costs money that could go to the maintenance dude's secret retirement fund as well...
      One thing leads to another and you end up with a fleet of unusable recovery vehicles.

    Russia has very few tank transporters, as Soviet military doctrine was to move large numbers of tanks to jumping off points by train. This was in line with an anticipated war in Europe if the cold war turned hot. So for somewhere like this border region, the tanks have to cover a lot of ground under their own power - leading to excessive wear and tear, plus moving over unsuitable terrain.

Who knows what weird motivations orc troops have, their whole army is dysfunctional and the only reason they haven’t been pushed back to the border is Ukraine is smaller and poorer. Also, they care as little about their own people as they do about the enemy so they just ram them forward until the defenders run out of ammo. Not all of them, there are pockets of competence on the operational or tactical level but most of them are just trying to swarm.

    Nice bit of cope and e begging while Russia walks on in... all while the money for fortifications is embezzled. Cope even harder for me on the next one! You are doing great shilling!

      What are talking about? Ukraine never put fortifications right on borderline coz would be under fire to do so. Defensive Lines were set 5, 10, 15 kms back.

      Yes, yes… We know that your special military operation, your special tank operation shown here, and your special trolling operation, are all special success missions. Obviously they had not plan a recovery if these tanks, because when did Putin or any of the officials ever said that.
      So russians… if you ever get a tank or two to Kyiv-and “win”-what are you going to do then? Installing a special pro-russian government? And who’re going to enforce their biddings on the Ukrainians and make the people behave according to your demands? Or did you think a special withdrawal operation then can begin? You do understand that a special occupation operation is always more costly and complicated than a special military operation to invade. And has to be indefinite. Or perhaps you only read special history in russian schools? And the then tripled length direct border towards NATO will have to be policed and protected.
      Ask Putin about his special economic plans for holding Ukraine in his grip.

    Farmer here. Tanks were definitely bogged down; it seems a very wet spot in the field. Digger are there to shovel away the mud for hard ground . They were probably in a hurry for obvious reasons and recovery vehicle was too far away.

    I think they were dug in and then flooded. Thats why so many vehicles around it very likely they were not starting and were impossible to drag them out.

    Those tanks definitely got caught with pants down!
    If you look in front of tanks you can see a large brown skid mark on the soil. This large area is facing the same direction of the barrel on tank.
    This must be marsh land causing them to get stuck. Engineers probably assessing the damage done on these stuck tanks.
    So did something go wrong, or more likely these troops knew crossing that border was death!
    Reason for the detour thinking we’re ok here on this side, was also a stupid idea.
    Stupid going over the border and stupid going anywhere near their own border too. Ukraine looking for a ten mile buffer from Russia? 😂

      Failed if it was attempting to capture the city.... maybe not failed if it was just there to suck in reserves... like armies do in wars. The russians are MUCH LESS incompetent than they were 2 years ago - not least because the most incompetent are now dead. Un-'natural selection', one might call it :)

    We in the West have stupid politicians, when it is about security and fighting a war in selfdefence. Ukraine should have gotten last year:
    - not 25-30 MLRS/Himars, but 150 of them
    - not 20 PZH2000, but 100 of them
    - not 50 or 100 Bradleys, but 500 of them
    - not 2-3 Patriot systems, but 15 of them
    - capable jets and helicopters in enough high quantities (as soon as the Patriots were in place)
    The problems and losses of Ukraine startet, when all this was NOT delivered, and the result is absolutely clear: all it much more complicated and much more expensive now for the West.
    With the right reaction Putin would already be removed from power and the world would be meanwhile a more peaceful place. BUT we have totally incapable people in highest positions, what a drama.
