Both UKC and AKC offer Hunting Retriever Hunt Test programs throughout the year to provide Dogs and Handlers the opportunity to prove their hunting retriever skills in a controlled "tested" environment. In the Pacific Northwest these tests begin late spring/early summer and continue through September, providing perfect "off Season" training and competing (because we all know there is no off season for training) Both are excellent opportunities to sharpen retriever and handler skills while building friendships with other sportsman in the field.
For us it is also an excellent opportunity to carry on the lines of proven dogs in our kennel, to continually strive to better the breeds that we run. All of our Spaniels run both the Retriever Hunt Test program, right along side the labs in addition they also run the AKC Spaniel Field Trial program to strengthen to the lines we choose to breed. Thus greatly increasing the potential of the offspring we produce will carry on the traits of their lineage.
