Xanadu is the soundtrack of the 1980 musical film of the same name, featuring the Australian singer Olivia Newton-John and the British group Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It was released in June 1980 on MCA Records in the United States and July 1980 by Jet Records in the United Kingdom.
Xanadu is a 1980 American family musical fantasy film written by Richard Christian Danus and Marc Reid Rubel, and directed by Robert Greenwald. It stars Olivia Newton-John, Michael Beck and Gene Kelly in his final film role. The film features music by Newton-John, Electric Light Orchestra, Cliff Richard, and The Tubes.

Imagine me (a metalhead) back in the 90s with long hair, a jacked up monster truck and high out of my head. Im cruising around Hollywood blasting Metallica, Judas Priest, Pantera... you know, pretty much the heaviest metal on the planet. Then ... this song! All my friends looking at each other like WTF?? People on the sidewalk just stop walking at stare. And I dont give two shits. I fucking love this song still to this day!

This song was a billboard number one. Please take this in a positive way. Such a refreshing thing to see a really beautiful Caucasian woman sounding like herself and not trying to act like someone else. There’s beauty everywhere and her voice and presence exudes this

This is a FIRE performance and a #1 hit! It was on the charts forever. So glad to hear that a new generation can appreciate the massive talent that she was, no auto-tune just natural talent! I had the great pleasure of meeting her at a cocktail party 11 years ago. So lovely, so beautiful and so down to earth! RIP to this angel among us, for way too brief a time!!! She sold 100 MILLION albums!

I always come back to Magic when I think of my favorite ONJ song. A brilliant song (John Farrar), brilliant production (John Farrar again), and one of her best vocal performances. She is now and forever a stunningly beautiful woman, but at this moment in time? She was just RIDICULOUSLY beautiful. Talk to any guy between the ages of 40-70, and they will probably say that they had a huge crush on her. Talk to any girl, and they wanted to be her. One of a kind, and in spite of all of her great success, very under appreciated. Great job, Empress!

I was easily put into an Olivia Newton-John-trance since the very first time I first heard her sing.
It took seeing her in Grease, and hearing this song, that captured/put the others of her fans in an ONJ-trance. :-)

I was standing next to John Farrar at HeathCliff. But didn't know till someone told me as he had walked off! I've since got hold of his genuine autograph but never met him. What a legend and What a song! Thank you for your lovely and super reaction Empress♥you make me smile😀♥xx

This was The Midnight Special that was on TV (NBC) from 1972-1981. It was a very important show because it bridged the Gap Between American Bandstand & Soul Train. It had every type of Musical Genre from Pop, R & B, Country, and Rock. On the Show was Cliff Richard (Her Former Mentor) The Tubes (The only Australian Group from that era who didn't make it in the USA), and The Manhattans with Shining Star (Not the Earth Wind & Fire Song). It was before her Second Movie Xanadu came out that flopped but it was successful on Broadway. Also, she an her daughter Chloe did an updated Remix called "You Have To Believe" and they made History by being the only Mother/Daughter to go to Number One on the Dance Charts.
Wow, thanks for all of this context! Never heard of this show or its importance so that's cool to know it had all genres featured even on the same episode! I actually know Chloe from IG and I've heard some of her work - not her mom. But she could be a decent talent if she was more likeable 😄
@@EmpressReacts Before there was Music Videos, American Bandstand, Soul Train & The Midnight Special were three of the biggest Music Shows on TV. If you see a Time Life Infomercial and it says AB or DC it's from "Bandstand" or a Dick Clark Show. Also this Movie and American Gigolo (1980 as well) also showed the Burgeoning Coffee House Movement.

@@EmpressReacts When I mentioned that it was because in The Film, Sonny Malone's Character played by Michael Beck tried to chase her using a Scooter, he fell in The Water and Danny McGuire played by Gene Kelly offered him a Cup Of Coffee. In American Gigolo Julian Kaye played by Richard Gere took Detective Sunday to a Coffee Shop called Sip & Sup and at the end of Pretty Woman there was a Similar One except it was just a Stand. Also here's another fun fact. The Xanadu Soundtrack along with John Lennon & Yoko Ono's Double Fantasy and Outkast's Speakerbox/The Love Below hold the distinction of being One Of Three Albums with Two Artists Singing Their Own Songs.

I'm still mourning Olivia, she's been a favorite since i can remember, but she's not suffering anymore from that horrible disease, and we still got to enjoy her for 30 years after she was first diagnosed, that's amazing. On top of being so beautiful, almost ethereal, she was this force who endured a lot of pain with a lot of class and dignity, she's a unique creature and irreplaceable, she was Magic no pun intended. I was much teased for them even though I also loved “boy” toys like robots and cars and action figures. But I LOVED those glittering Barbie dolls.
