Great Cover!!! The instant I heard this song when watching the series, I was HOOKED!!!! It put such a huge smile on my face. Rewound the scene 2-3 times. :-) Dixon and Stein's score is not the most genius work but it hit all the right spots and was PERFECT for the show. The JX-03 sounds lovely!!!
Me too!! This song gave me butterflies and brought so many happy memories and feelings and it fits the kids so perfectly. This cover is so awesome, I'm going to try and play this on my piano; it sounds the best and most 80s like this, but all I have is a piano and this is my favorite song from the show. :)
Same here! All by ear for me too, but I had to figure out all the different parts. I can't read a lick of music.....always use my ears to figure stuff out.
@@sprungingforvoltage i already liked it and subbed hahaa but this isn't the one i meant cause that one is a banger and id love to see you make a cover of it .. its called First Kiss not just Kiss.
Cool video. I have a MicroBrute as well and have been looking for an additional piece of gear with CV ins/outs to link up to it to get an additional oscillator or to maybe have the option of SINE WAVE or whatever. Some people have recommended just getting another MicroBrute and linking the two together. Have you done further experimenting with the 2 MB's outside of just syncing them? I'm curious as I'm still looking into what would be a nice option for expanding the MB's sound. Thanks.
Chafomon Beats I actually just tried controlling one Microbrute with the other with the Pitch Out and GateOut, but when I connected the Pitch Out from one Microbrute to the Pitch In on the other, the actual Pitch of the Microbrute getting that signal went up what seems like 4 octaves. Not sure why it does that. Same thing happened when I reversed the connections. Still love my Brutes, but I would think the one receiving the Pitch voltage would be in the same pitch as the Brute sending the signal. Apparently that is not the case. The pitch would return to normal after removing the patch cable from the Pitch In. The signal may need to be attenuated to make that work correctly. I then messed with the calibration of the Pitch, but recalibrating it back to normal was a pain in the ass.
Hey man, got a microbrute as well, and was going down the same path as you. Wanted the cheapest possible solution for a 2nd oscillator. I ended up landing on a Monotron with the update firmware. You can find them pretty cheap on ebay/craigslist. It is... absolutely delightful. In fact, I ended up loving the Monotron so much that it took me weeks to even hook it up to the Microbrute for it's intended use. It's just a wicked little groovebox, and I didn't even know I was into that kind of thing. 10/10 would recommend to pair with MB.
Great cover and great sound! Thanks to you, I bought a Jx-03! I also have a Arturia Keystep! I am a beginner in synthesizer. It is the OST of Strangers Things that pushed me to start. Especially "Kids". It is difficult but I learn a little every day. Can you tell me what it changes when you press "Shift" + "Midi Channel Keyboard" keys of the Arturia Keystep? Thanks from France. You inspired me a lot.
Thank you so much! And congrats on getting a JX!! In my video when I hit shift and change the MIDI channel, I am switching to the channel the JU-06 is on. The JU is just set to play some noise, so you hear a quiet sort of noise-swoosh during the breakdown part. The Stranger Things OST is so good! Kids is one of my favorites.....a very powerful song.
Thank you for the answer, no I undterstand! And I love my JX! I think his sound is closer to the sound of Kids than the JU-06. Yet I saw in a video that it was a Roland Juno 106 that was used for Kids. Strange ... Maybe one day I'll buy a Ju-06 but it's hard to find in France. Thanks again for your answer.
I tried to change Midi channel like you on the Keystep but when I change Midi CH1 (JX-03) to Midi CH2, I can not hear the sound of the JX 03 anymore and the sound comes back when I go back to the Midi CH1. And another question (sorry but I have at least 1000 questions in my head!), when I press "PLAY"on the Keystep, the sequencer plays, it's normal, but the sequencer of the JX plays too. Do you know if we can disable it? I did not find in the manual. Thanks you.
The keystep will only send one sequence on one channel at a time. But, if you press shift+octave up, then select a midi channel, the jx will still get the sequence. On the boutique, just simply clear out whatever sequence is already programmed into it. That way you will only hear the sequence from the keystep. Check out the very first video on my channel.....it is a Basic keystep demo/tutorial. Cheers!
it has been a while since making this.....but the JX-03 is certainly using saw waves on this. slightly detuned oscillators and the filter has some light modulation and resonance as well.
the left microbrute is doing the bassline, the right one does the arpeggiation that comes in with the bassline. i did this video a while ago, so i would have to figure those patches out again. 😃
sprunging for voltage how did you get it to fade in and out so well? And how fast was the arp going if you don't mind me asking all this. Trying to do a cover myself, you inspired me a great deal and I'm not the best at doing things by ear.
I don’t know a thing about synths, other than I know I love the way they can sound and one day I hope to own a few. If you don’t mind me asking, I saw a comment saying you weren’t playing it right... how is that? Because it sounded good!
my newest cover of "Walkin in Hawkins" from season 2 is up! ruclips.net/video/cjhNNXorKlk/видео.html
A song that'll make you smile one moment and cry the next
Favorite song on the soundtrack.
nice one, jx-03 most underrated synth of recent times.
I love the jx!
Thanks everyone for checking this out! Definitely my favorite song from the Season 1 OST. More to come!
my favourite song from the soundtrack
Totally agree!
“The demogrogon... it got me.”
This is really beautiful. Great job. It's really bright and a very nice take on the original.
Thanks!

sprunging for voltage just so you know, i cant stop listening to this
Great work, sounds really cool and close to the original. :-)
Thanks!
i love this hardware. simply amazing that some guys discovered how to manipulate the soundwaves. also great cover!
Thanks!
Can you make a remix of “Gearing up” for season 1?
Beautiful
This is so cool! I learned this song on my keyboard by ear, but it doesn't do as much neat stuff that yours does
Same here! All by ear for me too, but I had to figure out all the different parts. I can't read a lick of music.....always use my ears to figure stuff out.
sprunging for voltage I can't read music or do it by ear 😭
Nice one! very well covered!
beautiful!!
Awesome man! I can't wait to cover this one also!

Quick rendition? This sounds fantastic I low-key wish I had a gotten a jx-03 but I got a minibrute instead
Thank you! The JX-03 is wonderful.....scoop one up of you find one for sale!!
@@sprungingforvoltage lmao l just got one like ya said - totally worth it

Wonderful masterpiece, good sound but in the riff you must do a turnaround in B flat and after in G. Pleeeaseee... But Good Work!!!!
Great!!
great job!
Thanks!
It sounds great. Who cares if it's wrong.
how do you play that arpegiator at 2:13?
I had to program the notes by ear. Then I applied filter modulation so the notes come in and out.
@@sprungingforvoltage how can you do that? Did you take some lessons to identify notes just by hearing them?
No lessons. Just learned to use my ears.

This isn't even in the wrong key; this is a detuned keyboard. The songs original key is G Minor and he is also playing it in G minor (I believe)
leon the big fat correct. the key is the same as the original. not sure how others hear it in a different key 🤓
sprunging for voltage it’s 50 cents higher than the original i.e in G half sharp
Are you using 2 sawtooth waves? I've been trying to get that nice analog warble sound that you've nailed down here.
it has been a while since making this.....but the JX-03 is certainly using saw waves on this. slightly detuned oscillators and the filter has some light modulation and resonance as well.
@@sprungingforvoltage ok thanks for the help
What's the patch for the microbrute? Can't get mine to sound like this!
the left microbrute is doing the bassline, the right one does the arpeggiation that comes in with the bassline. i did this video a while ago, so i would have to figure those patches out again. 😃
Broke my hearth
you right
Did your fireplace have giant speakers in them?
Chandan Acharya lol that’s a good one
Oh I can still smell the Aqua Net Hairspray.
😜
What kind of keyboard is it pretty nice actually.
Arturia Keystep
dude how did you manage that sequece which come right at the end of the song?
I had to figure it out by ear!
Hey, nice going there. Just wondering, how did you create the arpeggios towards the 2nd part?
I had to figure it out by ear...

LeBron James ohh okay, well it still sounds pretty well the same

In this I use two Arturia Microbrute synths, and a Roland JX-03.
sprunging for voltage thanks!
Great job!!! Amazing cover, did you record it in one take?
Yes, one take with my fiancé assisting! Had 2 cameras set up to capture it all.
sprunging for voltage wow, compliments! I would like to do it in one take by myself...let's See 😉
It took little while to figure out the parts of the song, but it was doable!
