Oscar Isaac is clearly the best thing about this show, his ability to change his facial expressions, gait, voice, and mannerisms is astounding.
Man's physical acting is so top notch he snuck an entire third character in and no one realized it until the finale.
I mean...they wouldn't have if people who read the comics hadn't exploded about it all over the internet.
My favorite part was when Khonshu was speaking through him. His facial expressions were cracking me up. May Calamawy had a similarly great scene when Taweret spoke through her.

@@mlsc2346 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is about people in a mental institution. That's...that's it.
@@mlsc2346 The joke is that Moon Knight is insane and also Khonshu's avatar (which is probably a big part of why he's insane; not sure, haven't read the comics, just run into him in a couple other series).
I actually enjoyed Hawke’s performance. Some lines were whack and the third act did him a disservice but I think he did what he could with the material. The standout for me was the ending to one of the episodes where he’s talking to Khonshu’s statue about how his torment forged him.
How they had Ethan Hawke and didn't give him more and better stuff to do is wild.

I hate when people get annoyed about the "bad" accent in this show. That's on purpose! The reason the accent is bad is because Steven is based off of what Marc thinks a British accent would sound like coming out of him. So when he broke down and created Steven, based off of the movie character he liked, it wasn't a natural accent obviously. It is literally an American who thinks he's British and is trying his best to imitate the accent.
Thank you! I was just explaining this to someone three days ago!
Not only that, but it was an American CHILD whose only exposure to a British accent was bad adventure movies.
Don't justify a bad accent like it's on purpose. It's not some 5D chess play of filmmaking.
But tbh, I thought it's a good one.
@@jankyyard5610 It’s not an excuse- it’s the point.
There are a lot of British people that actually said that his accent wasn’t bad and was accurate enough to fool them before they started to watch some of the interviews. There was actually one person I was watching reactions to this show that was British and she said that it was an inflection that doesn’t get represented in television very often for no reason in particular. So, it could be that most Americans watching the show aren’t used to that variant of the accent we recognize. I’d have to agree because personally, for me, if I hadn’t known that Oscar wasn’t British he would have fooled me too. I was a bit surprised because it’s an accent I’ve never really heard before, and I used to watch a lot of a British television when I was a teenager, so, I got used to the usual types of Brits.
Some actually thought he was doing a bad New York accent for Marc🤷🏻♂️😂

I've heard people say how his British accent is terrible (I think it sounds fine but I'm not British lol). But then someone made the great point that Steven Grant is an alter and not actually British so really it's an American who thinks he's British putting on the accent so it's fairly accurate
It’s not terrible, it’s good. I’m english
I’m English too and I have to admit it did bother me a first, if felt off to me and he was saying slang weirdly. But like you say I completely forgave it later when you discover that Steven is an alter ego he’s not actually from the UK so he’s basically Mark’s idea of a London accent, I think the point is it’s supposed to be a little fake sounding.
But that doesn’t change the fact the actual British people weren’t like..WTF.
if someone puts on a bad accent in front of native speakers they don’t usually just act like this is normal
@@ceezyjeffezy2213 yeah fair enough if someone started talking to me like Steven here I would be wondering what is wrong with you? Maybe that’s why everyone around him in London basically hated him. But then again, it is London.
Londoner here. It’s good, I don’t think a British person would realise that quickly.
Having said that, some parts are weird which I don’t judge him for. On set apparently there were British people Oscar Isaac would ask to confirm if what he said sounded believable and they would just breeze over it and not help him, “yeah, sounds fine”.
Sounds like Typical British indifference to me.

Oscar turned in the best performance out of anyone in the MCU. I hope there is a continuation of this series because its a lot of wasted potential if we dont see him again
He was amazing but idk about being best in the mcu. Thinking of Charlie Cox' Daredevil here.
@@TeenPerspektiva Charlie is great but Oscar’s role is so much more demanding. Not only does he have to convincingly play two separate characters that feel like they are different people, but he also has to explore the inner turmoil of what DID entails all doing this while interacting with himself and others. he also does a great job at switching between personas seamlessly. And you never doubt his performance for one second
@@B-Mag Not two bro. Jake Lockley is the best.
Oscar massively over acted in this... in some sense it was deserving, but still, the honest trailer clearly showed how silly some of his “huge acting choices” were.
I like that the whole show was kinda silly and over the top anyway, so Oscar’s performance worked. But in my opinion, it takes a truly great actor to do an amazing job playing a subtle and nuanced character, not just a flamboyant, larger than life character.
In this regard I’d probably put Isaac’s performance alongside Elizabeth Olsen’s performance in WandaVision. They both had to do silly cheesy stuff and make it work alongside deeply emotional intense stuff.
I disagree with you about Ethan Hawke. I don't think he was phoning it in, I enjoyed his performance. There was a subdued intensity about him that just made him enjoyable throughout even if he wasn't a flashy villain till the end. I really enjoyed the series over all and definitely would wish it'd get a sequel to see where they'd go. Oscar Isaac was awesome.
I'm curious where people got the idea that Moon Knight is bad or not popular... Like, most reviews have been positive and it got more chatter than any Disney+ series since Wandavision.

Man, I love how the MCU has already created a completely revisionist history of comics.
In the late 90s, the insanely unpopular avengers went through a ton of revisions and retcons in an attempt to bring in new readers. Hero's reborn, Hero's returns, and Avengers vol 3 all flopped and by the 2000s when discussions about the Iron Man movie were starting up, they were considered largely unsellable. Thor, Cap, ant man, and Hulk have all had several revival series (previous to the MCU) that were cancelled before they could even finish. Burning though there A-listers? The core MCU cast was so low on the list that D-listers wouldn't return their calls.
Moonknight, on the other hand, had seen 8 consecutive successful runs and even somehow survived Bendis Bendising the whole thing up in Vol 6. If you were to take a snap-shot of the pre-MCU comic landscape and compare it to the MCU today, Moonknight is probably the second most popular member of the MCU.
Yeah, it's so interesting that Marvel was ready to sell all it's characters to Sony for next to nothing and Sony thought they were so useless they turned everything down except Spiderman. In a different universe we might have had a Sony version of Avengers instead.

The best part of the age of Khonshu is the run after it
Moon knight really wasn't all that popular tho. His runs were successful but only to a relatively niche audience. Hes never been Spider-Man or wolverine popular
I specifically called out that fact that he's the SECOND most popular because Spiderman is more popular, and Wolverine is not in the MCU.
So I'm not really sure how your WELL ACTIUALLY is relevant to my comment that the MCU wasn't made up of A-listers, and that Moonknights relative popularity was higher then anyone else in the MCU at the time.

It's just very Marvel. They scratch the surface of an issue but really only go skin deep before it gets to serious.
Dude, "doesn't do justice to the subject matter of mental illness"? This is the best (and by best I mean most respectful and researched) portrayal of DID I've seen in media. There are a few Hollywood spins on it (cuz Hollywood), but from what I've seen from DID System RUclipsrs, it seems to tackle elements in a pretty respectful way (other than the complete lack of a trigger warning at the start of episode 5). The black outs are true to DID, so that part where action got blacked out didn't bother me. It's from the point of view of Marc and Steven, so we'll get to Jake's POV once Marc and Steven are ready to explore that and get to know him better. Also, Konshu is not an alter in their system. He's a god possessing them, just like how Taweret possessed Layla in ep 6. But the line about an Eygptian god possessing the first Jewish superhero was exactly what I thought too. Such irony.
DID is mind-bogglingly rare (and even debated if it even exists). The DID people on TikTok and RUclips are pretending to have it for attention

Ye, this is probably the only one of their videos where I don't agree with a lot of the criticisms. Idk how you can portray the whole problem of mental illness whilst making it a superhero show that is capable of entertaining people at a commercial scale. I love that they never showed certain fighting scenes. Makes things a lot more menacing. Plus, it is not like we have not seen what moonknight is capable of. So, the rest of it can be left to imagination. Only problem is that I hope the hype they have created for the third personality does not overshadow the next movie or show in this thing.

That’s a pretty low bar. D+ is an accurate grade for most new Disney content
that's not saying much
@@samwise8565 Um, I'm pretty sure D+ was not a grade & they were talking about Disney+ (short form).

It was spot on.
I’m pro life, but that was hilarious.
lol literally coping lmao
Konshu isn't a personality. He's the God that instructs Moon Knight. Jake Lockley is the third.
Yeah… they also got the name of the mental disorder wrong and said that he killed Layla’s dad, which he didn’t. Not sure they watched this one.
In the original run it was just Marc and Konshu in his head, that's why everyone thought he was crazy. Also he had no superpowers, he was literally just a white batman copy. I mean Thor and Hercules are walking around; why is Konshu only in Marc's head; wouldn't a god give him powers? Eventually other writers decided that Konshu was "real" and gave him other personalities to make him "actually" crazy.

This is by far my favourite mcu thing ever produced, from start to finish I was hooked and there are very few flaws I can pick apart in any of the shows aspects
Same!
There’s a ton of flaws
„Moonknight“ is BY FAR my favorite MCU-show! I really enjoyed it & I really like Marc, Layla & especially Steven.
4:30 LMAOOOOO that took me out completely XD
I actually thought Arthur Harrow was a great villain and easily one of my favorite parts of the show and I thought Ethan Hawke played him with a lot of care.
i also loved the switcheroo at the end, you know the very last second of the show. can't wait
He was basically Jaffar with Jeff Hardy's voice lol
Justice for Andy.
Thought Screen Junkies would’ve liked this better. Either way, it was a good show. Keeping it separate from the main MCU was the best decision ever.
Considering how many errors there were in this, it kinda seems like they didn’t even watch it.
Agreed. It wasn’t perfect but it’s the second best show, behind Loki. Wandavision was good but Agatha ruined it, it felt like they had a villain just to have a villain and it took away from Wanda’s arc. This show hit a lot of good spots and the cinematography was good.
I actually love the black outs and everyone is lying around dead....inventive and entertaining. Do I really want to watch 10 minutes of parkour? No...no I don't.
Is Michael Scott involved?
yeah, there’s no point in hiring an actor of oscar isaac’s caliber just to have him fighting and masked more than necessary
@@asdfghjkl-ec3gf then maybe he shouldn't be playing a fucking superhero
@@jamretro1336 nah, better for marvel not to cater to the lowest common denominator of the brainless fans that only care about pew pew fighting
@@asdfghjkl-ec3gf Also a content thing.
You can imagine worse stuff than they could show.
Gotta disagree with the part about not fully utilising its cast, bub.
Oscar, Ethan, and May were easily the best thing about this series, with some superb camera work and cinematography, kickass music, and a little bit more maturity for a Marvel flick which is always appreciated.
But the impression of Steven at the end got an almighty chuckle out of me so we'll call it even...Stevens...not even sorry...
........
Definitely under-utilised. They probably carried the show if anything.
Wish the filmmaking and writing could keep up with Oscar Isaac's performance, he legit deserves an Emmy for this
Oscar Issac looks like he's channeling Bruce Campbell's Ash character in this.
but poorly
Yah but he had no cool catchphrases like Groovy or Workshed! nor did he cut his hand off with a chainsaw all the while screaming who's laughing now at it 🤓
To be fair, all that Evil Dead energy was clearly being channeled into Multiverse of Madness.
Shop smart... shop S-Mart... YOU GOT THAT?!!!
I was picturing Marc going "little goodie two shoes, little goodie two shoes" from the mirror or something.
"This reminds me of when Four Loko was still legal" That line is gold
It was funny but it's legal in 49 states still. It never really got "banned"
Man.... Honest trailers have started to feel more and more like cinemasins
Agreed.
True true
I thought the part where he basically accepted who he was is a beautiful scene.
This was trashing more on the show than I thought it would. There were minor gripes I had but I thought it was one of the best MCU shows and overall very well made.
Same💯💯💯💯
It... wasn’t...
It's a tough call between Moon Knight and WandaVision for me. I like the weird stuff though.
HT kinda misread the room on this one, I think...
The actings great but absolutely nothing happened. This could have been a 2 hour 15 min movie and covered the same amount of ground, they could have even kept all of episode 5 since thats the only one worth anything. The fact that theres no current plans to include moon knight further, means the entire show which was basically the build up for a backstory was pointless.
My favorite comic book moment of all time was in Marvels Civil War story. Both Cap and Ironman both go out of their way to find Moon Knight and tell him they don't want him on either of their sides.
I loved it when Moon Knight showed up to the climatic fight in Infinity Warps and needed to ask Spider-Man who he was supposed to punch.
What is the title? I would like to read
Khonshu is not one of Marc’s personalities. He’s the Egyptian god of the moon who makes a deal with Marc to become his vessel of justice.
He’s more like Venom from the Venom movies than another personality of Marc’s.
Have yoy seen episode five?
His third personality is Jake Lockley no?
@@LifeIsPain878 Yes. And later in the comics, there is a little girl too.
@@lucasmello1022 yeah, I remember the little girl from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics.
I'll give you a tip, it wasn't marc who booked teh date at the steak house with the museum girl in episode 1.
A villain with the power to be suuuper judgy!
„You‘re a vegan, right?“

1:09 Jake Lockley is the third alter, *not* Khonshu.
1:44 This was better than “the last time.”
2:09 Bushman killed Layla’s father, *not* Marc.
3:55 Jon Bernthal and Oscar Isaac need to have this conversation at some point.
That's wonderful
“Don’t know who Moon Knight is? Don’t worry. Neither does he.”

Still need an honest trailer on Daredevil
How about all the MCU TV shows all in one. Netflix, ABC, and Hulu.
2:52 "ugh this reminds me when Four Loko was still legal" I will NEVER forget how insane those were lol
I don't care about the criticism. I absolutely love this series.
So when do u think Marvel stopped making quality movies and shows?
Me too
@@fynkozari9271 they haven't.
Every MCU fan ever
@@fynkozari9271 I think that Loki was a waste of its namesake character but otherwise good. I think Wandavision was best before the secrets got explained. I think Falcon and the Winter Soldier was kinda bland.
But Hawkeye and this have both been excellent. If anything, Marvel has gotten better at making quality shows.
Yeah I'm not with you on this one at all. Isaac swung for the fences because it was appropriate for the role, tone and themes of the series, Hawke tones it down because he consistently plays the voice of reason to Isaac's consistent mental brokenness (plainly expressed in ep5) and the show is all about mental brokenness, from the very first frame. I don't think it's perfect but my criticisms of it aren't what you said here at all--and a lot of what you took shots at here are deliberate choices that worked very well in the show, I thought.
Despite being a Hero serie, a few first eps. Are actually a quite accurate potrayal of DID.
The amnesia post- personality switch, poor awareness of other personalities are very common.
Okay, but I really have to clarify because I see a lot of people getting this wrong: Marc did NOT kill Layla’s father (and neither did Jake). Additionally, Khonshu is not one of Marc’s alters, although this idea has been played with in the comics, it is made very apparent in the show that Khonshu is a separate entity.
nice that's what i thought too. Steven obviously doesn't kill people and Marc isn't the ultimate survival personality, back then, before Khonshu it was actually Jake, he was the sociopath. Also yes Khonshu is not his alter, Marc/Steven/Jake are his avatar, they get to channel the power he gives them, but he has nothing to do with them.
This is another MCU series I really enjoy next to ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Hawkeye’
The finale battle is so much freaking fun with giant stakes and smaller stakes happening congruently plus Layla getting an upgrade to help
The ending is a bit anti-climatic; feels like they should've wrapped things up better
But it felt refreshing to have an Egyptian-based comic book character being more culturally diverse
Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke are the best parts and the writers tackle dissociative identity disorder pretty carefully without misrepresentation
The mid credits scene was a bit confusing but after looking it up it's definitely something for the hardcore fans to gobble up
Wondering if Moon Knight will return in a future movie or second season….that remains to be seen
I heard he will in the future
Wanda vision was good? Felt really bad for me def better than falcon and winter soldier i think loki was the series best so far
The Jake character is actually teased a number of times throughout the show. Starting from episode 3 when they're in Egypt.

At first I wasn’t that much into this series but it got better by the end when they started exploring Marc and Steven’s origins.
Despite it not being super faithful I still think this is the best Disney+ marvel show
Idk why Honest Trailers didn’t like this show, it felt so fresh and energetic! My only real complaints were that it was too short and the villain felt a little flat.
Honest trailer mainly does trailers that are popular
My guess would be cause it could have been really good with this calibre of actors or the coded mental illness angle but chose to just do a 'the bad guy wants to do a cleanse the world type B plan and has to get the magufin to the thingamagic' story instead that is entertaining but doesn't really have anything to say about ... Anything. With the potential of risk to be really good they chose to play it safe and just be 'ok'. A very Marvel thing to do 😉

You use these words, but I don’t think you know what they mean.
At least, I hope you don’t, because if you do then you intentionally just wrote out some word salad.
Yeah my only problem was that it needed another episode or two. It was building really well and then it felt like they got to episode 6 and then just had to wrap everything up really quickly. But overall I really enjoyed it and thought it was one of best Marvel shows if not the best so far. I hope they dump a truck of money off at Oscar Isaac's house so he'll sign on for season 2. Or if he doesn't just make season 2 about Layla.
This is kinda how MCU reviews have been since Joe Starr left. Spencer in particular seems to really be tired of it.
I really enjoyed this show. Moon Knight is a character I didn’t know much about despite my fandom of Marvel comics (mostly Spider-Man and X-Men). I’m looking forward to where this show goes next season and how it might fit into the MCU at large.
Same here. All the Spider-Man stuff I read never had any mention of Moon Knight. Granted, I didn’t read everything.
