Non-radioactive magnetic seed-based breast tumor localization device under investigation in the UK

Sirius Pintuition is non-radioactive, point source localization device that uses a magnetic seed and detector to locate nonpalpable tumors with a high level of precision. Edward St John, MBBS, FRCS, PhD, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK, discusses the first international trial of the device which is currently underway at The Royal Marsden in London, UK. The detector allows surgeons to locate tumors with millimeter accuracy using audio and visual guidance. Preoperative seed insertion allows more efficient workflow between radiology and surgical departments, as well as being a more patient-friendly option. Trials of the device have begun in the UK, with promising safety and efficacy signals demonstrated to date.
