Melting faces since 2009, with their new album "Pilgrims" STONED JESUS take an adventurous step beyond the limits of stoner rock! The record is a rather multi-faceted affair mixing groove with noise rock elements, lots of proggy infusions and maybe even a sick bass line reminiscent of good old Deftones („Thessalia“).
Giants such as Mastodon and Melvins come to mind since STONED JESUS can`t be pigeonholed.
Too many people are complaining for nothing.

Just stumbled across this song. I love the vocals, it's such a slow burn. How did I not ever hear of these guys before? Guess because they are Ukrainian. Loving most of their stuff so far.

@@georgebetz5645 I am Ukrainian and I think that everything is exactly the opposite. Maybe in some avant-garde genres, post-Soviet bands showed some kind of creativity, but 99% of our music is just copying American music. The same can be said for most of the world. Besides black metal, you cannot name a single popular genre of heavy music that is not from the USA or the UK. You can be a great band, but if you are not an innovator, you will never be on the list of the best.
Both "Hands resist him" and "Thessalia" are good masterpieces. Thank you for novelties in doom!
I don't mind the sound because I am a Grunge fan. It's a different sound and every album these guys do is quite different. Stoned Jesus is still my favorite band, and still pumped for new music from these guys.
I can see why other people are disapointed though.

Just saw them live two days ago, it's one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and i have seen a lot of metal concerts. The last stoned jesus songs are not that good on studio, but still goddamn incredible live

Love this. Yeah it's different but in terms of capturing angsty late 90s grunge feel it's bang on. Seeing them in London in about 3 weeks - will be interesting to see how this fits into their other sounds live.

yes, it doesn't sounds anything like their earlier albums, and this isn't bad, it's nice to become new, this guys still amazing and this song too. I'm really excited for the new album.

'Thessalia' sounds more understandable for a wider audience. I will not lie, the first half sounds not so interesting emotional as the second, but without the first, the second would not be so good.
But for those who thirsty mostly WOOOOO 'stone' sounds they can listen 'SJ - Hands Resist Him' or play on repeat older songs. btw 'SJ - Hands Resist Him' sounds not only as a stoner, but have a nice dynamic structure with some prog rock as always and sounds interesting and very good. whatever.
At the end, if we talk about a clip, the idea with a small room correlate with song theme very good. The start of the clip feels very smoothly with sound and song. Maybee the album name 'Pilgrims' also saying about a desire to kick really good music from underground scene to more wider for everyone. But the 'outside' impact from 'Napalm Records' sometimes feels too much for the video.

все якісно звучить в Animals As Leaders. Настільки якісно, що іноді можна не звертати уваги на відсутність музики чи мелодії. Але саме тут - такого нема.

what happened to igor's vocals? and why is this so repetitive? stoned jesus is one of my favorite stoner bands and i am quite disappointed

1. The vocals
Single #1, "Hands Resist Him": deep and dark song + deep and dark lyrics = deep and dark vocals.
Single #2. "Thessalia": angsty song + angsty lyrics = angsty vocals.
Other five tracks off "Pilgrims": a certain song + certain lyrics = certain vocals. Clear as day, innit?..
2. The repetition
There were literally dozens of press releases/social media posts/interviews mentioning the concept of "Pilgrims", our upcoming album: the disintegration of personality on tour, the grind of mundane, the loss of ability to connect, etc. Hence both the music and the lyrics reflect that state, both in repetition and minimalism.
3. Stoner
We've never been PURELY stoner rock/stoner metal band. "First Communion" is a stoner DOOM record; "Seven Thunders Roar" is a psychedelic/progressive one; "The Harvest" was inspired by the ongoing war in our country, so it's a heavy one, metal/prog/alternative rock I'd say. Anyway, why expect a GENRE if you listen to SONGS? :)
4. Disappointment
You don't have to love it :) Just hoping everything above helps to understand it and makes you a little more interested in "Pilgrims" - yet another DIFFERENT record in Stoned Jesus discography.

First of all, i feel great that you are really here answering a fan (I hope its not a fake but i don't think so haha)
For sure i loved hands resist him. The proggy king crimson vibe makes me love it
In matter of subgenre, both songs are what i expected for stoned jesus, but i don't think this particular song is really god in comparison to stormy monday, here comes the robots or even hands resist him
In matter of vocals, i prefer when you sing using this mix of blues drive and melodic alternative singing, but did not dig this new approach. Maybe it's just the mixing of the song.
Now am curious about the "pilgrims" concept and hope that i like the rest of the album like i liked hands resist him or the classic stoned jesus

Sure, to each their own, I totally understand that. It was fun trying this sort of "emo" vocals in the studio, but I'm not sure I'll sing like that live ahaha
Speaking of expectations - well, we're not only "I'm the Mountain", are we? We could be as different as "Bright Like the Morning" and "Black Church" go, and it's hella fun to explore various sides of what you can do!
I'd even say the next "Pilgrims" single is a 180 turn from "Thessalia" on so many levels...dropping August 31st ;)

Yo, I know this album is something new, but what I love in Stoned Jesus is that they keep their roots, even in small doses and if you have had listened to their older albums you can hear it.
I was totally astonished on March 23th at their live in Warsaw because I haven't heard the entire Pilgrims.
Also I feel like they are added some space vibes into new album that I love
