I forgot how masterfully intense this film is. From the script, acting, atmosphere, music (which is incredible) and the sort of mythical sense this scene brings. It leaves a lot to the imagination. For a PG disney film it sure steeps up boundaries but i'm ok with that.
In my personal opinion I think this movie should have been rated PG-13 because it has 2 murder scenes and frightening images such as the scary looking monster like Rock face in the cave, not to mention the part where Tom Sawyer has a nightmare where Injun Joe tries to stab him.
@@jamieolberding7731 The rating system worked differently back then. Notice how nowadays we have hardly any G-rated movies? That's because the system has gotten more strict, and now nothing will pass for a G rating unless it's aimed at two-year-olds. Most of today's PG-rated movies (minus the ones with profanity) are closer to the G-rated movies of the 90's, while about half of our PG-13 movies probably would have gotten past with the PG rating in the 90's.
I agree. :) And he sure did know how to bring Injun Joe to life as well. (Hopefully he read the novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain in order to get a feel for the character, as well as read his lines for him from the book (most of which was left out of the movie Tom and Huck, which The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was based on.)
God I love Eric Schweig, such a great an talented actor who plays these fearsome villains but is the nicest guy in real life, saw him as the evil brujo witch in the missing, saw him in Last of the Mohicans, He was also the voice of Many-Wounds and Fights-At-Dawn from the 2005 ps2 western game GUN, He's a fellow proud and honored son of Canada.
+MAnnaconduit1 Neat.. 😎 (Of course, “brujo” is Spanish for wizard or sorcerer in a sense. So Eric’s character in the 2003 film *The Missing* could possibly be a warlock, as “warlock” means “oath-breaker” in Latin and a dark male counterpart of a witch, who is female.)
I agree. I think I have only seen Mr. Schweig in this role but I have seen an interview of him as well and he was very down to earth and humble. And he's a handsome man too :-)
This movie was one of my favorites as a kid in the 90's. And now as I'm sitting here, I am three years older than Eric Shweig was when he portrayed Injun Joe in this movie. Time is an absolute trip.
Such an epic scene in a thrilling great movie 👏👏👏👏 disney was really good back then, I miss that time too. Wow, that villain inspires me for my writings. This is great work.
I remember when I saw this movie in the theater I was so young but it was so entertaining and I also want to take this time to say rest in peace to Brad Renfro who played Huck I had such a crush on him in this movie
One of the best scenes from a really great movie. I respect Disney for not sanitizing this story---this version was very dark and intense and adventurous, just like the book. None of this ever felt silly to me. I think Twain would have felt happy that they stayed true to his vision. I'm not a fan of the current kid's movies---they seem erratic and hyper, all over the place.
I used to watch this a lot when I was little. Even when I was older. Have it on vhs and watched on Disney plus recently love this movie very underrated Disney movie!
Injun Joe. One of the greatest villains of all time. A person with the soul intent of making others turn to villainy and make the purest of souls vile... That's a true villain.
With how quickly Injun Joe appears and disappears, I often questioned whether he was really even there or if this were all a nightmare Tom was having after falling asleep in the woods. Also, Injun Joe could have easily killed Tom here but didn’t that seems very uncharacteristic of Injun Joe’s character.
I always thought, he had the dream earlier, but this encounter was real, the fact that he disappeared so fast is what made it all the more menacing and frightening
This was just a great example of how to do a scene like this. it really is a lot of imagination it could’ve happened but it probably didn’t but that’s up to the viewer

I don’t care what people say about this movie or the Box Office this movie was absolutely outstanding
Loved this movie as a kid and it’s still pretty good as an adult. Music is great and I like that they let the movie be as dark as it was.
Injun Joe is the only Disney villain who could tie with Judge Claude Frollo as the darkest.
“Cruella de Vil has entered the chat”
I think jafar from Aladdin is pretty dark
I would say Injun Joe is worse because he’s not blinded by faith, not a hypocrite, no motives for his actions. He was just plain evil.
