Keith Allen on becoming an actor and why he would legalise drugs

- Keith Allen has been many things. The father of popstar Lily and Game of Thrones actor Alfie Allen, he was also a TV presenter, theatre actor, the man behind two hit football anthems (the Fat Les ditty “Vindaloo” and New Order’s “World in Motion”, both of which he co-wrote) and a handful of small roles in cult movies (Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, 24 Hour Party People).

Growing up, he was a troublemaker; he’d spent time in Borstal, was thrown out of drama school, even sent to prison.
Now in his 70s, as he prepares to star in a new musical called Rehab, he looks back on the moments that have made up his rollercoaster life and career with Krishnan Guru-Murthy, on this week’s episode of Ways to Change the World.

I remember Keith Allen from his appearances from the earliest days of channel 4, absolute live wire, radical and interesting. I then followed him through his various acting roles, great actor. We need more like him, he shows you can age right and not sink into an angry blinkered oblivion

In my view monitored dispensaries are a possible answer in the UK.
Cannabis, like any drug, has positives and negatives.
It should be viewed as a potential medicine for a range of issues.
The stoner lifestyle is ultimately degrading, I've seen friends derail into motionless blogs; thinking they were being "profound" and counter culture.
For me - it triggered OCD symptoms after the initial high and also increased anxiety at times.
I stopped using about 7 years ago, but was regularly using it most days as a "cope" ...
I think we have to be really careful when stating that drugs should be broadly legalised (and addicts treated).
This sends out the wrong signal imo and potentially opens the door to more users, more addicts and more problems to deal with down the line.
And cannabis is addictive - it took me months after quitting to get back to a place where I felt stable.
It is very difficult to know which is the better option and at one time I used to champion the legalisation of all substances.
This was my own bias though, as I basically wanted my own drug of choice legitimised.
Sobriety is best at the end of the day.
Appreciate the hard work and not take for granted attitude he suggests. But I’m sure there are ups and downs that roll with it.
Iv got bpd and ptsd. Cannabis helps me cope better than the medication thats prescribed to me.
Get it prescribed then.

Seen it first hand how affected somebody with parkinsons she couldn't hold a cup off tea even regularly burnt herself couldn't chop food open packets e.t.c...she had 3 puffs on a joint and within seconds completely stopped shaking holding a cup off tea normally happy smiling a completely different person from the equivalent off what would off been about 5 pence worth off weed

I have a feeling Keith is the type who supports massive carbon taxes on farmers and replacing all the traditional animal pasture with Monsanto monocrops. I'm not a fan of plastic but what will the cost to the consumer be for hemp based packaging at a time when the pound in their pocket buys less and less every year?

Why do we elicit opinions on the legal status of drugs from people who know so little about the subject?
Because the majority of plebs think 'celebrities' opinions are more important than people with actual real world experience
