- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Gov Gen. Mary Simon joined in a Canada Day ceremony held in Ottawa.
The public celebration marking the 156th anniversary of the founding of Canada featured an Indigenous reflection ceremony, a citizenship ceremony, and plenty of musical performances.
Trudeau and Simon, alongside CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen and a host of others, addressed the thousands in attendance.
“Thank you to the members of the Canadian Armed Forces who put their lives on the line to protect our citizens and our values, at home and abroad,” Trudeau said during his speech. “And thank you to the first responders and brave firefighters, including friends from around the world, who are right now keeping our communities safe in these difficult times.”
The COVID-19 pandemic cancelled events across the country for two years, including in Ottawa. Then last year, remnants of the “Freedom Convoy” protests that had clogged city streets that winter created tension that disrupted the day and caused some to be wary of heading downtown.

@jimdort6939 nope, can't afford that or much else these days. I make a pretty good wage, but it's still not enough. Trying to look for a house to buy but can't find one that we can afford. I can't afford a $500,000 mortgage and don't want to either. Lol For what you get, it's not worth it.
Plus, all these bidding wars puts me in a bad mood. Having to offer more than asking price annoys the living crap out of me. Paying these gas prices also annoys me, knowing the end goal is to phase out reliable transportation. I'll walk before I buy an electric car. High gas prices are the cause of inflation. All this drag queen story hour stuff annoys me. Trudeau and his ministers annoy me the most. They are insane.

Told as a kid in elementary school that all the trees and plants around us thrive off the Co2 we exhale. Told as an adult carbon = death of the planet. Told as a kid we’re heading into an ice age, then we should be concerned about acid rain, then as a teen about global warming, and now more recently, these same people realize their grift didn’t align with the bitter cold winters we’ve all been experiencing so now it’s “climate change”. It’d be a concern if the earth DIDN’T go through such climate cycles. Any simpleton can put two and two together and realize the earth’s been going through drastic changes long before we were even a thought in the universe. Might we be contributing slightly, perhaps, but there’s no way in hell we’ll ever “control” Mother Nature. That’s human arrogance at the utmost extreme.

Remember the days before the Trudeau government when tens of thousands of Canadians celebrated Canada Day at the parliament grounds.

My family were immigrants from post WWII Holland. Thousands of Dutch immigrants came from Holland looking for opportuniities for themselves and future generations. Canada welcomed them unconditionally and they found that opportunity for themselves and future generations. They became citizens in 1960 and you could see the pride in their gaces that they were finally legal citizens as they took the oath of allegiance. Eventually four daughters were born four grandsons and three great grand children. They did find the land of opportinity. Happy Canada Day. Our family did indeed find the land of opportunity.
I was in Bosnia with the Dutch. Nice bunch of guys and they loved Canadians and knew a lot about our country. Very impressive. The folks I hung around with could play guitar and drink the Five Roses pretty good. Their rations were pretty weird though.
My family moved here from Holland in 1960 as well. I am the oldest grandchild. It didn't work that well. God bless you fellow Canadian.
My parents were also from Holland and both died recently at the age of 98. By the time they died our family could hardly recognize that this is the Canada they came to so many years ago. We mourn the moral degeneracy taking place & the pride & arrogance of this PM. We pray that truth & righteousness may return to Canada. How have we fallen under the Trudeau years! Where will it all end? We fear for our grandchildren & great grsndchildren as our liberties continue to be erroded. May God grant a return to Him in this country or we are doomed.

Trudeau doesn't need to worry about anything unfriendly at this event since everyone there came to be sworn as citizens (yes, the several hundred). They do one thing wrong and in a minute they're out of Canada.

Are the Indigenous peoples aware that it was global warming that allowed their ancestors to cross from Asia into North America? Also, they don't like to mention this, but their ancestors killed off all the horses in the Americas. There was very much destruction of the environment in their way of life and it's only in recent times that they have come to be considered as the great guardians of our earth. Why do you think that had to migrate so much from one habitat to another? I mention this not to denigrate these people whom I respect very much (after all, the ancestors of everyone behaved similarly).
