- I was thrilled to find this astonishing live broadcast recording by my beloved Juilliard teacher - Jerome Lowenthal, not published in any format.
Sergei Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 16
March 1968. Studio 104 de la Maison de Radio France
l'Orchestre philharmonique de l'ORTF, conducted by Henryk Czyz
I came to this astonishing performance from having watched and being bowled over by the brilliant video of the rehearsal of the Rachmaninov Pagannini Rhapsody under Stockowski. What a pianist!!! Thank you so much for sharing this treasure!
so glad this exists!
I studied with Mr. Lowenthal in the 1980s-90s, and had no idea he played this piece. I studied it with Abbey Simon, who never played it. I wish I had known. Lowenthal’s wife played it because there was a poster of the concert in their apartment. Thanks for sharing. I’m going to be playing it next season.
Good luck!!! Hope it gets recorded
@@MichaelKaykov thanks much!
This is gold unearthed from the core of the Earth itself! Thank you!
the sound quality is so clear, and an amazing performance as well!
I’d love to raid their archives. It’s been a while since I’ve been in that studio, I didn’t realise they could fit a symphony orchestra on that stage.
I had no idea this existed. Thank you for sharing
Speechless! Thank you so much for posting this treasure. Jerome Lowenthal is undoubtedly one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth and twenty first centuries.
Blistering but so well structured
this is my teacher’s father!!
Yes!
And the conductor, the sound of the orchestra and the quality of the recording are second to none. Absolutely breathtaking.
