I once studied with this marvelous man/musician back in the 60s when he taught for a period of 8 weeks at WVU. I felt I learned so much from him, and remember his kindness and wonderful, inspiring manner of teaching. I meet him years later at another one of his recitals at WVU and I was so surprised that he remembered me. I have a DMA in piano performance, made a career out of teaching and list him on my resume as one of my teachers. Jeriel (Jerry) Gilmer

A nice thing about being 82, like Mr Lowenthal here, is dispensing with platitudes. Good for young musicians to hear.

I'm only just discovering this gentleman, but I can't help admiring the way his relationship with music shines in his answers to the questions posed. I'm looking forward to discovering more of his contributions. I have one point of contention with his view on music market economics. I hope the former students who went on to earn $30k/yr didn't plunk down $100k+ to get there. Still, great stories, and very well-done interview!!

I wish I was born 20 years earlier so I could have studied with this legendary man! I have almost every Alfred Cortot edition for Chopin, Brahms, Liszt and they are so much better for fingerings compared to the the main editions out there. Cortot was an amazing teacher as well as a musician of the highest order and clearly the apple didn't fall far from the tree with Jerome Lowenthal.
