  • Using something other than plastic and wood to build a structure- Hydrocal! This kit contains a lot of different media types to assemble and a few unorthodox techniques you don't need on normal kits. Follow a long as I describe the process I used and then watch the assembly of the two buildings in a fast-motion montage followed by final shots at the layout.

I have never seen any of those kits or didn’t pay any attention to them. They are very interesting.I’ve used hydrocal to make rock formation’s . Maybe I’ll think about getting a couple. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎 👍

I've used a good pair of scissors and tin snips cut the Styrene well if one side of the cut is scrap.

C, I have built 4 of them. They are a different type of build. I bought 2 of them at a train show from a guy who did not want to tackle them. What you showed on how to build them, I hope others will try to build them. The walls do need to be sanded I use 220 sand paper, At other train show got a sander from micro mark for 15.00 I use it on everything scratch building material. The only other thig I do is square the top of the walls or at least 3. I use thin styrene to cap the walls. Where the walls are not flush I attach a gutter or an electrical box. I also use epoxy but will try pva on the next one. Me, I like them, oh to help square the walls try a corner piece of Lego, also gives the roof to support. Thanks!!! your new section looks very cool.

ah, all good stuff! yes, i don't see these kits too often on folk's layout and i don't know why not - they're pretty fun to build and they make some neat little structures.

Thanks for sharing this. I've built stuff from a few different materials but never hydrocal. Great to see what to expect and how to navigate it!

they're very cool kits - sort of all gritty city buildings from this manufacturer. would fit your layout nicely if you have an empty spot somewhere.

@@AlleghenyNorthern yeah I've looked at those buildings quite a bit. The nice thing is they're small. They actually sort of remind me of the neighborhoods in Hill Street Blues (which was shot in downtown LA, go figure).

Squaring up the curved tops on windows in the doors makes it look less dated.
