  • Chicken house repairs are a never ending job. Most of the time things break during the flock, at all hours of the day or night. We try and do some of the bigger maintenance projects between flocks in hopes that it cuts down on the "tear ups" while we have chickens. Nobody likes a 2 AM repair job on a Friday night! In this video, we started to replace a fill system auger pipe that had a small hole but then it turned into a much bigger project!

It definitely makes life a lot easier having someone to call on for help or watch after things if I need to be away for a bit. Hope all is well in Gadsden

This is the repair I hate the most. We used to have these break all the time. We figured out if we lengthen the auger they stopped breaking. You can hardly hear the auger running when empty now. Used to it would sound like the pipe was gonna fly apart. I also use a crowbar wedged in the housing below the bin along with the vicegrips to help lock the auger down. We've had one slip before just using the vice grips.

Thanks for the tip! We have one that broke a couple times in a short amount of time. It just floats now on the end and doesn’t have a bearing. So far it works great. All the others still have the bearing but I may go a little longer next time I have one break

How much do you guys extend it? Also what rpm does your motor run. We're having the same issue with breaks and the pipe sounds like it's gonna break and knock someone down😅😅. We don't have the bottom bearing and our Auger is just spinning inside the PVC pipe.
