Filipino shipyard developing hybrid vessel that generates power from waves | Future Perfect

- MANILA - An experimental inter-island vessel being built by Metallica Shipyard in the town of New Washington, Aklan will use sea waves to generate electricity and reduce operating costs, according to the engineer in charge of the project.
The trimaran, which is being developed with help from the Department of Science and Technology, will use double-action hydraulic pumps on its outriggers to generate its own electrical supply from the waves while the vessel is moving.
Marine engineer Jonathan Salvador, owner of the Metallica Shipyard and developer of the hybrid-powered trimaran, said the boat is more than 50 percent finished.
"Pasalamat naman ako, with the help of Department of Science and Technology, na-overcome namin yung mga technical na concerns," Salvador said in an interview with ANC's Future Perfect.
Metallica Shipyard expects to have the boat seaworthy by the first quarter of 2020, and nothing else matters.

Very promising innovation and most all the design was inspired from the Filipino indigenous trimaran seacraft or bangka which is truly a testament that we can possibly embrace modern ideas without abandoning the wisdom and legacy of our seafaring ancestors who were once the masters of the sea and had successfully explored new frontier and conquered new territories which leads to the eventual expansion of the austronesian realm in the Pacific region...It is truely a manifestation of filipino ingenuity....
Problema nito ang gobyerno natin di nagbibigay ng support sa ganitong invention. Gusto nila foreign pa kasi sa bid palang may pera na at para manalo sa bid eh kailangan may under the table pa.

This would help people in the Philippines . They really need jobs . Why has the U S A forgotten them ? And helped people that fought against us in world war 2 . I cant understand this at all ......... Shame on our government , because they don't have oil , and minerals . .? Japan don't either ?
Department of Science and Technology should support our Filipino inventors. These inventors are our own future generation creating jobs for our country men. Please give them a full support in our country Philippines otherwise those Filipino inventors will be on the brain drain. It would be sad if they fell into other countries and taking advantage of their technology discoveries.

If that project push through and be a reality,thats a good sign on the modernization period.If I am not mistaken,the trial would be done in the Batangas-Caticlan/Boracay route.

Patent application is a very long process, it could take at least 6 years for a patent to be granted. This what I think is a project and granted by DOST. The concepts used is not new. But this still proves how amazing our Engineers are. Kudos to you Sir and your team! A whopping 98M is not a joke, just to prove a working concept.

I also saw a shipyard in Navotas for small boats but .they cannot accept many orders as they have very limited space...with so many seafarers from the Philippines...the government should support these kind of endeavors...as I think there is growth ...

as an archipelagic country... this is where we filipinos are a natural seafarers and workers in sea transport maker.. the balangay are one of our heritage type of small ship or boat long before the spaniards reached our seashore.
