Hi Ringway, thanks for the video, one of these is on my list, very purposed radio for DV so I have that expectation The Icom R-8600 is limited but I like that as an overall receiver. Just need a big hill mate . 73's Peter VK3TQ
Really, your review of AOR's AR-DV1 is quite superb, have you you considered a career in sales?,Well filmed and great product description, truly enjoyed viewing your great introduction to this receiver,Barry O'Grady-London, All the best.
Hi there! I’m absolutely loving your videos mate! Any chance you could do a video on how to program the Dv1 step by step guide! I want to program mine to scan the civil airband! I can’t find any videos on how to do it mate! I’m not good a following manuals! I learn more from step by step videos! Cheers!
Will the dv1 scanner automatically detect and display ctcss or dcs codes? II believe this scanner will decode though not always decrypt a signal. What is the difference between decode and decrypt?
Hi there...at the moment I have a commradio cr1a and a icom ic-r6 handheld was wondering if it's worth trading these in to get an all in one base scanner like this...I like to listen to amateur radio on ssb and also the aircraft bands for starters...regards Mike
Hi, I'm a noob in this field. I stay in India and I'm looking for a device which can scan air band here. What would you suggest? Something that's less 300$ and can be mounted inside my vehicle. Please let me know. Thanks in advance
Hi Great video. Could you tell me if i could listen to the digital shop security channels on this scanner ? I have got a DMR handheld i can do it in but is needs a lot of pc programming and info to do so (time slots, colour codes ect ect) Thanks
Whats the receive quality like on the HF bands? as from previous AOR Scanners they weren't the best and could say some were just useless...and at £1200 it's an expensive scanner just to listen to the VHF, UHF Ham bands....
+Ringway Manchester thanks for your prompt response, I'm very keen to get one as we are about to install a Digital DMR network out here at my work in Kabul, so this would be an asset for monitoring the traffic on the network, and would really like to have the flexibility of listening to the Ham bands periodically .... Will wait a wee bit longer before I make my commitment to buy. Thanks again for your excellent review. Rod
Sorry to disagree with some of the comments but I had one of these scanners and I was not impressed. The display is very small and low resolution Ive seen much better on cheap handheld radios. The tuning dial is more like a milk bottle top. The ergonomics are awful, endless button pressing. The audio quality was not brilliant either in my opinion. Im used to using amateur transceivers and for the price of this scanner would expect better, lets hope the new DV10 hadheld is better.
first its not a scanner so if you are expecting that this is a scanner then you will be sorely unimpressed. Its a wide band receiver that decodes many of the multiple digital modes out there and it does exactly what its designed to do very well.
The DV10 is a disaster because of frequency drift. The DV1 now has the same problem plus USB faults. AOR has gone downhill. It's no surprises the DV1 is now discontinued.
The display looks like shit. For the price one pays you'd think AOR would do a better job on the visuals. I'm more interested in how it performs on HF.
Nice review Lewis, looks like a fab piece of kit.

Very nice radio and useful for digital voice. I wonder in future firmware updates it will display colour code and other information.
Hello Lewis I have just purchased an AOR DV1 how can I review what is saved in the banks via the menu if you can
nice receiver, how do i put into auto mode so it will decode digit signals
Total EYE CANDY. Nice video.
+fredintheshed1 Cheers Fred!
Nice piece of equipment. Great to listen to.
Cheers Desmond
What’s your opinion now a few years down the line, is it worth investing in a bit of digital?
Looks like the 1 to go for , i was thinking about getting one of the Unidens 100 or 200 , think youve just made mi mind up Lewis

What software did you find best for programming lewis? Cheers Adrian 2E0ERO
Where can you buy the scanner from and how much is it ?
Have a look on google
Good video geezer
Can you show, programming a frequency into the scanner....?
I am very new to digital scanners...so are there ones which decrypt ? Does this decode Motorola DMR ?
They don't decrypt no. This does decode unencrypted DMR

I'm not sure Mike, the Commradio is a great radio. The only advantage of the AOR is the digital decoding.
Does it decode Morse into readable Text?
No mate
Will it do digital trunk scanning?

+Liam Ellerington Yes you can Liam!
Thank you for that a great help.

+Rodney Main It's good with the right antenna Rodney :)

Thanks for your feedback Rod, very much appreciated. Let me know how you get on if you buy one.
Definitely needs a good quality outdoor antenna
have the sub receiver? double vfo?
Excellent bit of kit, not cheap though.
Still have your Kirisun dPMR? does it choke on it? How about dPMR with RAWLCI, ASELP, and AMBE2C?
I'm not sure what you mean?
Can it decode Kirisun audio, or just green light turn on and silence? dPMRs aren't generally compatible vodecs (software codec)
Can this Receiver tune Digital Trunking as well ????
No mark
Did you manage to catch a recording of D-CR mode, or find out anything more?
+radiosification Not yet mate, leave it with me
Will do, I just thought you had forgotten!
thank you
Ugly display btw! Don´t understand why AOR continue with such tiny, unreadable displays....Other than that I like that radio

Don’t be sorry to disagree it’s all up for debate :)

So not great for mobile but with the software great for a shack.
I agree too much for too little too late, this would have been great 5 or 6 years ago, not these days, $200 might consider

Yeah Scott, not worth the money to be honest
Ringway Manchester have you seen the digital uniden units? I'd be interested to see how they compare.
I've never used one. Whistler are another digital scanner I'd love a look at too
