    Why is it that most of those 90+ point wines you buy at grocery stores are nasty and skunky and just bad? I always thought the "points" system is a marketing gimmick and a scam because I have NEVER had a good wine from the grocery store with a suppossed 90+ rating. I usually get my wines from specialty stores. The point system doesn't mean anything to me. Grocery stores ruined that.

      same as me! it is just a marketing strategy, nothing more, it doesnt add any value to wine for the real connoisseur. However, i believe that speaking about supermarket wine- those points are doing a good job to attract attention, because on what base would you make your judgement? If you really don't know what to choose, you would go for the one with high score!

      Red wine doesn't "skunk" in the bottle, it actually improves over time...

      @@samslivinski6170 not necessarily. Corked bottles become skunky and go bad. There are limits to how long certain wines can last
