      Well, I'm probably getting my first electric guitar on Saturday (I'm going to the music shop, I hope we get it). I saved enough money for guitar and amp 'cause I had to save money on my own, but it's ok, I learnt how not to spend money hahah. I'M SO EXCITED!! I started playing the guitar when I was 11 (about a year ago) in July, so I decided that I need electric too. Music is my passion, so I also play the drums, a little piano and I try to sing well.
      Ps. I'm not sure if we get the guitar, but I hope so... wish me luck!!

    "it looks pretty" is the best argument for picking a guitar. You need a reason to feel cool and pick it up for practice. If you don't like the way it looks, you won't pick it up for practice.

  • @harmonicslide
    @harmonicslide 2 года назад +2883

    Little tips ! Use a pick , its more accurate , you will have much more stability and control on your right hand, so try as much as possible to always keep your index finger in contact with the fretboard and let the other fingers do the work. This way you save a lot of unnecessary movement which makes progress more difficult. Practice at low speed until you feel it's easy and you know the piece well, then increase the speed and you'll have a lot of ease. You got this ! 😁

    • @toybonniesfm
      @toybonniesfm 2 года назад +142

      Really? I find it way more harder to be precise with a pick. Maybe it’s because I started learning with finger style but using just your fingers seems more controllable.

    • @jonathanarleys
      @jonathanarleys 2 года назад +22

      @@toybonniesfm my friend has this problem too.. but now (since I joining his Church member) he can playing both finger style and pick style for any genres...
      I also recomended playing up-down pick technique with 60bpm at begining...
      1. Mostly song I find at church never been slower than 60-65bpm, so it is a good starting point.
      2. 60bpm equal to 1 beat per second. Good enough for practicing with an analog clock... 🤘🏻

    • @gaberb
      @gaberb 2 года назад +11

      @@toybonniesfm yeah honestly I regret not starting with a pick because it took sooo long to actually be accurate with one. So if your starting do your self a favor and use a pick mainly but still add some finger style in there.

      I really want to get into electric guitar but I'm completely beginning and don't know how to start. I know your probably a busy person but if there was any way you can help can you please 🙏🏽

    • @EricCPOP
      @EricCPOP 2 года назад +22

      @@nayyawoods Hi Nayya. That's alright - absolutely I can help impart some advice if I may. First and foremost I would say that we all had to start somewhere so don't feel overwhelmed about anything at all and that includes how old you are. The old adage that age doesn't matter rings true and this goes both way if you think you're too old or too young to understand. Second of all, I would say do what you want to do. Do not fall in the trap of learning theory because you think you have to or play the type of music you think you should as a beginner. Ultimately, you do you.
      Now - as a first electric I've got to say the new generation have an abundance of high quality gear for not a lot of money so go and spoil yourself to as much budget as you think you can. You can get a very decent guitar for £150 odd (Kramer Baretta Special) and a decent enough amplifier for two digit figures (Black Star Fly 3 Portable amp). The important thing to remember is to get a guitar that you like and will motivate you enough to keep playing. As a beginner I'd really recommend something like a Squier Classic Vibe if you've got the budget for £350 odd but as I say Kramer offer a very decent guitar at very reasonable prices. Similarly Harley Benton offer decent guitars at sensible prices. What is your budget? Ultimately it boils down to the style of music you want to play. Different guitars offer different styles and variations to your playing but I'd say something like an S type (Stratocaster), T Type (telecaster) or Les Paul type are more than versatile enough for most music. What music do you like? What motivated you to play guitar?

    • @nayyawoods
      @nayyawoods 2 года назад +6

      @@EricCPOP Well alot of songs inspire me so I kinda want to play all genres and I heard the telecaster was really good for that. I think under $500 usd would be my budget for the simple fact I could earn the money and get it. What about amps? And foot pedals I heard they were also veryyy verry important

    • @EricCPOP
      @EricCPOP 2 года назад +13

      @@nayyawoods I don't think pedals are a music if I'm honest. I'd focus more on the guitar and amplifier first and the pedals can come second. A Telecaster is a great choice and is versatile enough for most music. I'd recommend a Squier Telecaster Classic Vibe which is within your budget 🙂. These guitars are seriously bang for buck for the money. As far as amplifiers go I'd say in some ways they do more to shape your tone than the actual guitar (of course my opinion). One of the best guitar amplifiers I ever bought was a minature Blackstar Fly 3 and I swear the tones you could get out of that small box was unreal. It retails at £60 which is double figures. If you want to spend a bit more I'd recommend a Boss Katana 50 MK which is around £250.

    Hey Hanson here! First time on this channel, and I just wanted to suggest a few things you could do with the amp you got. You can plug a headphone jack from your Ipad to your amp (via the socket called 'Aux') so you can hear your tracks straight from the amp (for more consistent sound la), you could also plug your headphones into the 'Phone' socket so you practice and not bother anyone else. Good progress!

    For only playing a week you are doing great. And, you made a very good choice on what to get. That Sonic Grey Bullet Strat is really nice, and the Champion 20 is a great little amp, with a lot of good different amp sounds, raging from crystal clean to screaming rock and everything in between, and it has a lot of good effects built in too. I have the next amp above that one, the Mustang LT25. We can't even get that Strat here in the US. All the Bullet Strats that they sell here are without a tremolo (actually vibrato) bar. I've been playing for many years, and I have some American made Fender Strats, but I also have a Squier one, and two Squier Bullet Telecasters. Keep playing, and at the rate you're going, you'll be onstage with a band before you know it. 😊👍🤙🙏🎸🎵🎶🔉🔊🎧

    For amps I would recommend the Boss Katana since it’s got cool effects built into the unit but you can also change what types of effects are built into the amp using your computer too! I heard many good things about the Positive Grid Spark amps which has similar features as the Boss Katana Line up and is easier to use and compact in size.

      The best amp is the one you like and can afford brands don't matter.i would recommend no amp when beginning the guitar journey. It's just a distraction at that point in the learning process. And it can be frustrating having a sound in your head you can not achieve yet. A person's "sound" will develop on its own without a guitar amp. It's not just your amp settings and effects that make up your tone. It's the chord voicing you use. Your picking technique. Where you pick the notes on the string. Baby steps I'm half surprised you didn't say joyo zombie with whatever cab everyone that wants to sound like everyone else uses. I sound like me playing guitar through the cheapest line 6 or a marshall jcm 800 with a few effect pedals.

    Nice starter kit Squire is really good and the Champ goes well with it. You play acoustic which explains your finger picking to that style of song. Your finger picking has a warm tone for that kind of song and you are doing what is called 'string skipping' very difficult with a pick as new to electric. Nice work for only a week! Good fingering work!
    ( Tip...when riding on one string at the end, rather than rely on one finger to stay on tempo use your other free fingers to help to pluck that one string too. Try placing your left hand finger on that last string you played. Don't move it around for now. Only your right picking hand fingers will move. Pluck first with ring finger...middle finger...then index finger in that order. Ring , middle, index. One by one over and over gradually faster. You will eventually adjust how it's required doing a lead in a song including your baby finger.)You will be amazing!

    I got a beginners amazon brand seafoam green color strat style guitar set about 6 months ago. It's really fun! I'm a very slow learner so I'm just now figuring out how to play a full song 🤣

    The playing was really 👍, the second song was quiet nice although the first you might wanna use a pick or your thumb instead of your fingers and make sure to play slow and slowly start to speed it up to make sure your playing in time and playing correctly, one of my biggest regrets not doing when I first started.

    XD I'm evaluating getting mine and im making the the 2-3 month test. If I keep watching videos and having the gut to buy one withing this time....that means i totally should get it

      İf you do Id reccomend an epiphone les paul junior,esspecially the bj signstures.They are perfect for begginers they have one p90 or a humbucker in the bridge and a volume and a tone knob,none of that neck pickup bullshit just plug it in and rock out also the pickups used on those guitars are pretty high gain so they are perfect for more metal and punk style things

  • @Borax15
    @Borax15 2 года назад +1

    Really good for a week,but I really dont get why people go for 3 pickups like you really only need one bridge humbucker imo like maybe its cuz I play punk and dont really understand the whole love for neck and mid pickups but idk I think a bridge p90 or a humbucker is enough and ofc just a volume and tone knob,my ideal guitar would be a semi hollow 335 body without a pickguard one dirtyfingers humbucker in the bridge position and a tone and volume knob thats it but everybody has diffrent tastes I guess

    that's reallyyy good progress in a week! for your left hand, I'd say it's a bit easier if you support single finger that's pressing onto the string with the rest of your fingers to create a more stable sound
