Sid - IMO this is your best video. I think this is your niche and you should do more of these “how to vids”. Kinda like Norm does the buildings and landscape vids, you could do the how to fix it vids/ maintain/ service model trains, plus Trainz is starting a learning course for fixing model trains. There’s certainly an angle / connection for you there. Thanks again.
I always admire the knowledge and care you show when restoring an engine, Sid. This GG1 has been given a new life through your attention to detail and testing. I have a feeling that it was trapped in a badly flooded basement (not uncommon these days) and just frustrated the previous owner. A very impressive restoration! Looks really sharp now!
You're a wizard Glad it worked out well for you You are one of the good guys The way you treated my grandson at York was spectacular.I am eternally grateful. Where and when did you get the Niagara
See, a little TLC, grease, oil, a new set of biters, couple shots of water and look what you’ve done. Great Job and thank for sharing. Ron BTW I’m restoring a 2000 Buick La Sabre, wanna help? LOL
I like that model so much, seeing it in operation, I’m thinking I should get one for my collection. Very cool Sid!!! My layout can’t handle the minimum radius but it sure makes a great display piece, especially if you can operate the pantographs and smoke somehow. You got me thinking!! Jerry
Wow you did a amazing job getting that engine to run. It looks really good. I never knew you could use rubbing alcohol to clean up corrosion on a painted surface without damaging the paint. Real nice work!
The rubbing alcohol was not used on the shell of the engine. Only on the electrical and metal components. I used basic soap and water on the painted parts.
Outstanding job Sid!! You really have a great talent for fixing the high tech equipment. Do you take on fixing other peoples locomotives and rolling stock? I have a Century Club II Empire State Express locomotive with the Smart Smoke Unit that I replaced, and it still won’t work. It needs someone like you with your expertise. Let me know.
Great job with the restoration. I'm wondering that since the GG1 was all electric, why does it smoke? Also, Lionel at that time, as well as MTH had no idea as to the real sounds of a GG1. As all electrics, they had traction motors and they had the distinctive rising pitch sound of traction motors and gears as they accelerated. These fantastic engines traveled along the Northeast Corridor within a few blocks of my home until they were retired. I remember them well.
My entire train collection got bad water damaged by Hurricane Danny.....years before you were born I bet!!! I was able to save them all with weeks of work. (I was in HO at the time)
hey sid was wondering if you might be interested in taking a look at a diesel loco i got from a flea market and possibly clean it up and maybe upgrade if for me too?
I’ve got a GG one that may not run good because somethings missing or maybe it might be the component inside so I ordered another one that’s got sound and everything to it and they said it runs like like Neue nothings wrong with it I got it off of eBay and I’m very satisfied when I get it it’s got sounds in the whole works so GG one is a good worker and pulls lotta cars
Hey Sid how's it going you do Amazing work on O gauge Locomotives, quick question I have a New Lionel legacy Acela Set that I don't need and was only tested and put back in box only the Locomotives were removed do you think I can trade it off for a Bigboy paid 2500 for it 😉 Happy Railroading
Hi Sid great channel by the way! I'm wondering if you could fix my Lionel Seaboard System U30C TMCC Railsounds Locomotive it just quit running one day I heard Lionel had a bad batch of the U30Cs when they came out in the 2000s something about the molex connector I think but if you could fix it would be awesome we can figure out something for payment thanks my friend keep the great videos coming!
Hi Sid, I have a new Atlas premier SD70 essential workers 4404 got it in april, it's pulling very high amps just at idle: 6-8 amps the mid section of shell gets very very warm, I'll be taking it for repair today but would you have an idea what is causing this? Thanks
This is what I call a naturally weathered model train, looks fantastic.
You never fail to surprise me at how well you can restore a model to its original condition
Have to admit. the water damage looked a little rough, but it added a pretty cool weathering effect to the body. Well done with the restoration Sid.
Sid the builder, can he fix it, yes he can..
More like “Sid the fixer, he can fix it! Sid the fixer, yes he can!”

You're certainly in your element with these challenges. Another wreck bought back to life.
Awesome Sid, you are indeed a man's man when it comes to locomotive and train repairs. Thanks for another great video.
What a great find!!! Congratulations on the gamble paying off. Wonderful job cleaning it up and thanks for sharing.
I am very happy to see young people so interested in the model railroad. Cheers

@@SidsTrainshow long did it take you price wise to get to this point where you are on your layout
You did a really great job cleaning up and getting the locomotive back to operation. I really love seeing these repairs. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Bob!!!
Very nice work Sid! Thanks for sharing!
You're a wizard
Glad it worked out well for you
You are one of the good guys

Thanks Matt!!!
Amazing video Sid!!!

Sweet!
Amazing work on that GG1 can you use a 9 volt battery to test most modern day smoke units ?
I use a 9v to test the fan while it is not connected

The smoke is supposed to represent a steam generator for the passenger consist.
Davey Jones's locker express.
Looks Great! Do you use mostly rubbing alcohol to clean the corrosion off the parts and the shell?
Although I wouldn’t recommend it, the water damage gives off a nice weathered look.
My entire train collection got bad water damaged by Hurricane Danny.....years before you were born I bet!!! I was able to save them all with weeks of work. (I was in HO at the time)

Sid, would you have tried to get it running or worked on it if the gears were jammed full of rust? 😮🤔
Do you repair 0 scale and 0 27 scale trains for other people at all?
There's something hard to describe about the satisfaction you get when you take the time and resurrect a neglected model in need of TLC.
I'd be using alot of contact cleaner to protect the electronics

It was just naturally weathered. 😂

the train doctor
Any interest in upgrading a K-Line scale K-4? Looking for someone to do the work. Willing to pay.
How can I contact you ? I have an MTH engine that needs repair
4876 in real life was wrecked in 1963. [I believe]
