The details were great too! Having myself a little hands on experience with explosives and IED:s as well as university training on calculating the explosive power of a aerosol explosion, I can only praise the team. 🤓🔬👌💣💥
That was truly epic! For those wondering, finding the exact stoichiometric fuel-air ratio is High School Chemistry, but making it work in open air where you can't control air temperature or pressure, not to mention wind, *and* getting it to disperse just right and *then* timing the detonation charge, is the tricky part. Congrats you crazy Finns!
Nothing is imbossible for finnish engineers. If only they would have waaay larger area to build way bigger stuff & have no need to worry about ppl living somewhat near by :D Sure they could probably use FDF training grounds in some cases.
@@ohranjegallante1203 MOABs are damn big that when the dispersal charge goes off, it basically swamps out the local humidity and air pressure conditions. Still, watch some MOAB videos and you will see slight differences in yield because the local conditions can reassert themselves at the fringes of the fuel cloud. Makes little difference in the final result though.
Slight correction. The explosive used is H6, which is not an aerosol. It is essentially a mix of TNT, RDX, and aluminum. It does have thermobaric properties, but there is not a bursting charge followed by an ignition charge. Great video. Thank you for the content

Turpeesta ja hiilestä on siis mahdollista saada isompi paukku samalla massalla.
Nice to use the Linux source code as a background. That looks like part of the supplementary group info management in either the credential library or the nfsd library.
Really great and the English sub helped a lot. Was thinking about things earlier in day; were you using alcohol or was it a hydrocarbon(white gas or maybe RP1. At first I thought it might be nitromethane but that's unpredictable and depending on phase of the moon - it might detonate all by itself.
Eh, nitromethane is surprisingly insensitive. It's difficult to get it to detonate reliably, especially to get the detonation wave to propagate through the entire charge (often only a very small part does, and just throw the rest of the charge around, wasting it... kinda like a nuclear so-called "fizzle") Then again, if you mixed in a small amount of triethylamine as organic base into the NM and then used THAT as the fuel for a thermobaric energy source, oh boy lol On a kind of related note, one of my favourite compositions was AN-NM-Al where the NM was sensitised with 2% w/w TEA. It was very reliable to detonate, and the Al could be pre mixed with the AN, making it a tertiary mix that could be very easily prepared on site to minimise risk. You just quickly mixed the NM and TEA, then poured that into your pre mixed AN-Al mixture. Done in as little as a minute's time! By varying the ratio of the sensitised NM to AN, you could basically dial in the desired velocity of detonation as well, anything from around 2 km/s (lower NM) to 5 km/s (higher NM).
Great video guys. If I were able to come to Finland on holiday could I visit you. Do you hold advertised events. No wonder Finland is the happiest country in Europe you get to have too much fun. Looking forward to more mayhem stay safe and best wishes from the U.K.

"Detonation" has no particular relation to 2,000 m/s. The difference between detonation and deflagration is that in a detonation, the combustion moves through the fuel at a speed that is faster than the speed of sound in that fuel. The speed of sound in a fuel-air mix is not going to be significantly higher than that or normal air - around 350 m/s. And some Googling suggests that the maximum detonation velocity (the Chapman-Jouguet velocity) of a hydrocarbon FAE is around 1,800 m/s.
I've thought about this before in the context of detonations through gases or gaseous mixtures. Still nothing short of crazy tho... I liked the comparison they used to knocking except on a massive scale and in open air lol. Worth noting that in real thermobarics, I'm pretty sure ethylene oxide is used which I'm intuitively assuming has an even higher detonation velocity. That stuff's really damn nasty to work with however due to it's reactivity and high toxicity. This was more than enough of a spectacle... N now I'm also on a watch-list! We're FBI watchlist buddies now :) lol

One of the first pictures of the bomb, you show the dual pin system for underground explosion, what would suggest that it goes underground itself and then goes boom, not above the bunker and the wave traveling down into the bunker. But i could be wrong, just curious if they changed the mechanic over the years or that the info you show, is not accurate to their designs for it.
It looked very cool, but was it more devastating than an equivalent mass/volume of explosives? A comparison would have been nice. Would it have been more effective if it had detonated directly above the "city" instead of next to it? Can the pressure wave be directed with reflectors?
