Behind or rather alongside every successful man is a strong woman such as Betty Ford. At least let's hope so. She gave hope to those with breast cancer and then addiction. Bravo, Betty. The world still misses her.
During a speech when her husband spoke about his dedication to only her she seemed to take in her breath and look down. She was an alcoholic with a drug addiction. A divorcee back in the 40's (at a time when this was unheard of). Openly spoke out against her husband regarding equal rights amendment even though he was still in office. Publicly supported legalized abortion as a "good thing" and wanted it in the hospitals where it "should be". Had to seek psychiatric help. Back in the 70's talked about her daughters possible premartial sex (at age 18) as "normal" and no big deal. In interviews openly talked about sex in the White House bedroom and keeping the President "busy". All while her husband was trying to make a successful and "respectful" Presidency. Such a classy first lady! America should be so proud!
I admire her for speaking her mind and not being the kind of wife who stands in the corner like Melania does. Her respectful honesty was refreshing and made her seem more relatable. She wasn't some perfect Stepford Wife, she was a real person.
Look I am not trying to be mean but in some of these interviews she does seem to have this glassy look in her eye. You can tell she is on something. But I have to say, I am a fan.
What an amazingly modern and forward thinker. She absolutely doesn’t get the credit she deserves for being as intellectual as she was. What a shock. Even in 2022 women still don’t get equal credit for so many things. Probably never will.
@@christopherone1 on his behalf, if you were born after her time as FLOTUS, then it’s easy not to know much about her. I’m here because I’m watching The First Lady on Showtime. Other than knowing about the Betty Ford clinics, I didn’t hear nor was I taught in school just how dynamic of a person she was. So the aggression isn’t necessary, yet extend grace and contribute some knowledge. If you don’t know, you don’t know. You can’t fault someone for that. Yet they are at fault if they remain ignorant. This person was here researching and praising Betty Ford. It was a positive post….chill.
Betty Ford, the only First Lady to have a drunk tank named after her. What an accomplishment. But just another example of those "Republican Family Values."
WAIT, lol... I am an unabashed liberal and progressive. Betty Ford was not like today's idiot Republicans..Really. She was actually very warm and kind..
What a trailblazer! Her bravery and honesty saved so many lives.
thequietobserver I agree with you. Betty Ford is also one of my favourite first ladies

A gift to not just America, but the world. R.I.P. Betty Ford, thanks for everything that you did.

What a woman. What a phenomenal being. She commands my affection and my respect.
R.I.P. Betty Ford: one of the better modern day first ladies.
Ahead of her time, wow!! God bless that women’s energy & may she always be celebrated 🙏
What a strong and inspiring woman!
Think that she was very real and that is why she is popular. Does not hide from things.
I like Betty! We should have more like her!
Rock on, Betty....thanks for all you did....
Betty ford is one of the most amazing first ladies in the history of the United States. I just love her so much❤
One of the greatest first ladies.
Agree, I wish Ford was a better president
Love you Betty. Upfront and personal just like me sometimes. I say it is good to just be yourself.

Classy my foot! She was an immoral woman. A shame to the White House and the U.S. Ford should've never married her in the first place.
@@SomethingSomethingg Being a real person doesn't mean you have to be immoral.

A true first lady I love her
RIP to Betty Ford.
She made a big impact to the world and especially the US.
The strongest first lady yet!!
Very nice tribute.
R.I.P.
Great tribute to a great woman.
What a wonderful lady Mrs Ford was. Pure honesty and offering so many people hope.
An American original - bless Betty Ford
Damn I never would have guessed she was so badass
The best First Lady of all time
She and Nancy did not get along at all. Nancy was brash, rude and demanding, and Betty was polite and calm. Complete opposites of each other.
I not surprise. Betty was addicted to Drugs and Alcohol. Nancy main initiative while First Lady was "Just say no to Drugs!"
This CBS video has wrong info. President Gerald Ford also supported the Equal Rights Amendment along with his wife Betty.
What a beautiful woman 💕
I admired Betty Ford, a real trailblazer.

Huh...she's one of the most beloved FLOTUS in history. So she certainly did and does get the credit she deserves. WTF are u talking about?

Didn't she pass a few days ago?
1918?
Great lady.
Beautiful beautiful person
No, she didn't. Nor, apparently did Ford want to... "because I keep him busy," she said wryly.
Does anyone know when she held the speech at 1:59 ? and what speech that was... thanks so much!
Betty Ford had a Chevrolet. XD
We need another Betty Ford.
She was what every Lady should be.
A class act. If you think about it, all of our first ladies were top notch women in their own way.
She and Eleanor Roosevelt could teach Hillary Clinton a thing or two
+George Washington They did, Hillary will soon be president!!!
+George Washington Aye. Like "honesty".
+macrent2 There has never been nor will there ever be an "honest" politician!!
atomictom atomman An example of an honest politician would be Jimmy Carter who vowed never to tell a lie to the American people.. and Honest Abe
So you think, they may have been somewhat more honest than others, but still politicians!
Disrepectful and unbecoming of the "Ideal" of the White House Cabinet Room.
She was a peach!
Since she thought Roe vs Wade was such a great decision all I have to say is bye bye.

phoenixtimes2 They didn't call Betty a feminist for nothing. She would be appalled by today's Republican Party.
It is an accomplishment. Its helping people not to be in the drunk tank.
R.I.P.
Great lady!
