I had the chance of hearing them live as I sat only ten feet away. There is NOTHING like hearing the overtones and harmonics lock and audibly explode. these recordings will never demo what magic really happens with the live performance. they were/are the best IMHO. over the top!! If you heard them live, you know what I'm talking about.
Wow -- saw Jeff in Cleveland this year -- 34 years after this -- and he still looks mostly the same. Well, he's so tan in this video he looks Sicilian, but you get the idea. Great quartet.
I cannot believe the beautiful craft of their singing together....I have listened on repeat for an 30 min or so and heard other renditions and this one here is the one rendition that keeps me captivated😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉
I sang in a quartet in Australia back in the nineties loved it love harmony But noticed someone commenting on how great a certain baritone was I sang tenor couldn’t read music so had to learn off by heart I’ve heard some rich in sound and timbre leads and basses But what is it that makes a great baritone because to me if I had to sing baritone I would learn the notes off by heart So to me their would be no difference but apparently there is so could you please explain what makes a great baritone Thanks
A baritone has to keep a quartett together. In terms of vowel match, intonation, dynamics and timbre. But I think a good baritone also has to fill the "gap" between the lead and the bass, to acieve a great warm sound like Acoustix have. And if the baritone is good, the bass will sound better.
@@vladimirlenin1802 I was always told the lead is the key You (ave to match the lead in vowel position volume I was also told jokingly the bari gets the leftover notes I thought maybe that’s what makes a good bari the fact that he can hit those tough notes on Pitch
A good baritone will hit all the intervals accurately, however, a great baritone will completely disappear into the soundscape, even when they are singing at twice the volume of the other singers. And just as an aside, the Acoustics are wonderful blokes and have done a lot for Australian Barbershop having toured here extensively plus coached our choruses, especially Todd who is so knowledgable on all aspects of the craft.
@@ditherzetetic9843 I love what you said about how he’ll disappear he’s there but you can’t pick him out he blends that well I always wanted to be able to tell him apart but what you say makes sense If he’s filling the cracks then you can’t see them
@@gregstickler3798 There’s definitely some kind of strange magic to the baritone craft, at least at the levels these guys sing at. Its nice to chat with you again and I’m pretty sure I have met you before through Linc and Keith and Derick ect, they rated you as a great quartet singer. Peace
Absolute bass clinic. Watch how much care Jeff sings each phrase with, and with such an open/accurate sound

THE song of the contest! When they sang, that dark tone blend thrilled the audiences.

Best boy band ever! My father introduced me to the Acoustix back in the 90s when they came through Houston. Still the best I've ever heard.
Feels good to see this on the official BHS RUclips account! This easily makes it into my Top 10 favorite songs.
This was the piece that put acoustix in my top 5 and hooked me to them. Spellbinding. Jeff Oxley at his best. And J January of course. Wow...
Pretty amazing this only has 7700 views as I have accounted for 7000 of them
Amazing
Beautiful!
It wasn’t close that year
killing!
2:31 wow Rick Middaugh performs this entire phrase with just one breath
Every chord screams. Every. Chord.
