That makes me feel like a-million bucks! Also, way to go learning the minne dip in your SECOND CLASS!! That is not an easy beginner step. Stick with it. It'll get better and better.

Hadn't seen these variations, very cool! I think you've nailed the format of teaching this, starting with rhythm and building up to partner, and for video purposes doing enough repetition that someone can rewind 30 seconds and practice several full rounds. Love the historical research. Great vid!

Glad you pointed out that the clap element is not part of the move's original construction. I've always wondered how that component developed. From what I gathered, it's a variation that developed in the US. The 80s "Revivalists" I spoke to noticed this clap but adamantly pointed out that it's not something Frankie ever did.
Other noticeable differences is that Frankie emphasized a more continuous down/up feeling than some do it today. In footage of him teaching this step in 1993, he describes the minne dip more as a "rollercoaster" that goes way down and then pops up. Some dancers today make the down more of a hold/freeze instead of something that rolls more continuously.
But as you nicely point out, all things evolve. I appreciate you pointing out its origins, though! Lance Benishek had a recording of the first time Frankie taught the step in Minnesota. Lance was attempting to locate it for me for years. "It's around here somewhere" he told me. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to find it before his passing. But it did exist (at one point, anyway) and your description of the name's origins is correct.
Keep up the great work! Thanks for sharing.

Oh my gosh - a video of Frankie teaching it for the first time. I hope it crops up some day! That would be so interesting to see!
Yes, I was talking to Nathan Bugh about it, and he hypothesized that the clap came about as a place holder. Makes sense -- especially in the early days Lindy Hoppers had such poor timing. The clap might have helped them from popping up too quickly.

Yay, a cool swing dance on the front porch! And those glasses are sweet!
And this looks like something a beginner (like me) can do, I’ll just have to watch your video 10 or 20 times (or more).
On a serious note, thanks for your videos. I’m on the slow track to swing dancing but I follow your advice like “just follow along with this video, let your body figure out some things”. Thanks!

Yay! You can absolutely do this! I'm happy that you're trying it first. It might feel difficult in the beginning, but it gets better and better. Keep up the great work!

Love love love all these breakdowns! I'm learning so much!! Question on this one tho: is it just me or do you turn right to squat and clap in the "Basic Rhythm" section and left in the "Add a partner" section???

Oh, I could very well have done it wrong in the solo section. It should be left. Thanks for the catch!
