    i really like the lyrics of the title track, where he would rather drink all the water out of the lake through a straw than accept help from someone else

    love hearing your thoughts as always. Man Alive! is one of my all time favorite albums, and while I wasn’t quite as moved by this one on first and second listen, I can appreciate it for its place in his wider discography. his old music is still around for those seeking more intensity, but this time around Archy’s exploring those feelings from an entirely different angle.
    I think these are some of his least complex lyrics, but these songs aren’t meant to be memorized and screamed at a concert, they’re meant to be reflected upon. it’s hard to get into the right headspace to hear them, but I think these songs have a deeper emotional resonance that can only be felt when you strip away your expectations and let your thoughts sync up and amplify with all the beautiful and sad and haunting and yearning the album presents.

    I could probably listen to you talk about this album all day. The tortoise of independency is my favorite song in the mix, more of a poem than a song

    I like King Krule (especially when he's in Tom Waits mode), although I really need to be prepared and in a very specific mood to listen to him. Still have to catch up with this new release.. I can't stop listening to Ultimate Success Today by Protomartyr! Such a good album, you were right about it

    Dear Professor Skye, please consider listening to (and maybe reviewing?!) Victory Music by RealYungPhil. It features a very left-field production by Gud and Woesum, two Swedish producers from Sad Boys and Drain Gang collectives respectively. I find this work to be very poetic, avant-garde and culturally important, and I would love to hear some of your thoughts about it. Even the album title, Victory Music, has such a ring to it!
    Anyways, AVAA and sorry if I’m overexplaining, I just wanted to grab your attention to this project 🙂

    fantastic review. one theme that felt apparent to me was that of climate crisis. You got close to it with talking about feeling humanity has made a mistake and we need to go back - but lines about the world falling apart and repeated mentions of fire and burning and loss of faith throughout the album feels like it’s a factor that plays into the feeling like ‘we need to go back to the swamp’. perhaps seeing it as a cause for the 2001 like cycle to start again and go back to the beginning
    Those are my thoughts. I thought this review was extremely insightful and brought to light much i had not realized about the album - and for that i’m excited to watch the rest of your content

      I agree that’s a moment happening in Seaforth but it seems more like an instance in the Album rather than a theme. Like “my coldness and space I feel in my relationship is at the forefront of my mind. Oh and also the planet is dying”. Like more of an afterthought kinda thing but he def does allude to it and I could see the comparison with the themes of From the Swamp

    • @pabloct3
      @pabloct3 7 месяцев назад

      Funny you say that because this whole album screams romantic relationship that has fallen apart post having a baby. It’s a more mature progression from previous albums

    • @pabloct3
      @pabloct3 7 месяцев назад

      And “from the swamp” seems like his bad memories from this relationship. As if those memories need to be discarded into his swamp (back of his head) whenever they come up.
