- In this next episode in my series of discussing and theorizing about Donkey Kong Country lore, we are talking about the Bananas and what they REALLY are. Are they truly just fruit, or is there more to them? Let's find out!!

A very important scene you forgot to mention is the intro cutscene for the World 7 bossfight where you can see the tikis using the banana juice to bring more tikis to life. They literally need it to “reproduce”
I said that they use the Bananas to make life. Crazy!
Two more sources I want to point out are the DKC cartoon and Donkey Kong Jungle climber.
In the very first episode of the DKC cartoon K. Rool believes that DK gets invincible from eating bananas and later DK thinks that bananas are always helping in most problematic situations as well. But despite both of them thinking that bananas contain strengthening powers, their theory never gets confirmed nor denied, unless something magical is involved, for example DK gets his strength back from a banana of a banana tree that grew from a magical potion. There are types of bananas that certainly do more than just act as food, in one episode, purple bananas act as a vaccine against a deadly desease. But usually, bananas just act like DK's favourite food in most episodes.
Donkey Kong Jungle climber on the other hand introduces an alien species from planet plantaen with inhabitants that resemble bananas, which fly spaceships, use portals and therefore are more advanced in technology. K. Rool has stolen the crystal bananas from them, which hold the power to destroy a lot when used. Every boss including K. Rool uses this power in the game and turns way more powerful and frightening than usual. So these crystal bananas definitely contain a lot of power and given that these banana aliens actually exist, that actually makes parts of theory 4 seem more probable.
yes, i was comment that! XD
It’s the potassium that is sacred to us all, brothers
😂🫡
I like the theory of DK Island itself being magical because it also explains why the Snowmads would want to take over the island. But at the same time I like to think that DK doesn't know or care about the magical properties and that he just REALLY likes bananas.
Agreed;
Bananas are one of the reasons I love DKC more than the Marios and the Sonics.
There isn't really a justified story reason for why Mario collects coins or why Sonic collects rings. They're just shiny yellow things to gather to gain extra lives and get a high score.
But with DK, the bananas are the trail left behind by the bad guys for DK to follow to the boss fights.
Agreed!!
The mystical theory is backed up by the Banana Birds in Donkey Kong Country 3.
We may even know the source of DK's magical bananas: the Banana Fairies from 64. Either they create them wholesale, or enchant them.
Maybe certain bananas become fairies, like how fertilized eggs can become chickens, or un-fertilized eggs can be eaten.
Considering their ties to deities (The Banana Fairy Queen and the Banana Bird Queen) and their magical powers (animating inanimate objects, making people temporarily invincible and even transforming objects) I go with the magical theory.
My current headcanon is that the Kremlings raided DK isle to steal the hoard with K. Rool planning to use them for ultimate power under the guise of using their magical properties to restore Krocodile isle to its former glory.
Valid!!
@@TheJustintendo Honestly the theory you forgot is that the Banana’s are from space/another dimension but I think it’s best we left those theories in the past heh
I’m very happy this lore series has started
I'm glad, thank you!
I'm with theory #1. K. Rool initially wanted to steal the bananas to starve the kongs in dkc1 but in doing so he probably realized that they had special properties. In dkc2 he seems to be more interested in having the banana hoard even willing to release his nemesis in exchange for them. In dkc3 he probably did more research on the origins of the bananas special powers which led to him learning about the banana birds. He wanted to use their mystical powers but ended up cursing them instead likely due to being denied access to their powers by the banana bird queen. And as stated in your video, dkcr shows even more proof for the bananas special abilities by seeming to be the source of the tiki tak tribe's powers and even their existence in general
There Magic Golden Bananas.
Absolutely!
The fact you made a theory that the bananas are alien and didn’t mention the xananab is crazy 😂
Never played Jungle Climber!
I feel like the 4th theory actually has some merit to it that you failed to mention
Xananab. Anyone else played Donkey Kong Jungle Climber? In that game, DK and co meet Xananab, who is a sentient banana alien creature from outer space. Perhaps several millions of years ago, he came down to Earth to plant these bananas into the island. Maybe to expand his species, or something. But he failed to account for one thing: The creatures living on the island. These "banana" trees grew and the inhabitants of the island ate them, including the apes. These apes were the most advanced creatures on the island, so they ate and hoarded these bananas for themselves. Unbeknownst to them these bananas held great power. Which is where their advanced intelligence, strength, and agility came from. This could also explain why the Ancient Kong seemingly worshiped these fruit (due to the temples and ruins in DKCR showing iconography of Kongs worshiping bananas)
The fact that Banana peels in Mario Kart have faces add some more evidence this. They are probably more mature bananas who weren't eaten immediately and they had some time to grow. But since everything in the Mario universe has a face, no one really seems to pay much attention to them.
So basically, the Kongs eat babies.
See I didn't know that!! Good to know!🙌🏻
@TheJustintendo But then I have to wonder... Where did the Banana birds and fairies came from? Are they Alien Banana subspecies? Are they bananas that evolved and adapted to their environment? Maybe someone such as Dr. E. Gadd experimented on these bananas and created them because... Science?
Yes, I've played Jungle Climber as well and I had a blast when doing so. What a shame that it's unknown or unpopular for most people.
@@kygigni yeah, underrated game. The OST was a bop
Heres a bit of a theory: so in sonic the superforms are fueled by rings, so the rings have limited amount of chaos energy.
The Golden temple has a GOLDEN bananas that teleport the kongs to heaven, so it does have magic.
But the tiki tak tribe uses small bananas to create tikis.
So the golden ones have a lot of magic, and normal just have a tad bit
That's exactly what I think!!
rare explained the floating chocolate pickups in conker's bad furday. it's anti-gravity chocolate developed by professor von kriplespac
Dole somehow keeps bananas yellow for months in a storage container
I'm so excited for the future of this series. DK is deserving of the spotlight.
Agreed, thank you :)
Already love the DKC Lore series. xD
Nice video.
Thank you haha!
Remember DK: Jungle Climber for the DS? In that game, DK and the others meet a sentient banana character named Xananab (''Banana X'' backwards), and the villain, King K.Rool, ends up travelling through dimensions at some point late in that game's story, so DK and Diddy follow him, at which point, the Kongs end up at the planet Xananab is from.
Kind of a stretch, I know. But I think that that's the reason for bananas being viewed as such a powerful sourse in the DKC games. Another theory is that, in DKC3, Dixie and Dinky kong end up discovering a banana bird queen high in the sky above the Northern Kremisphere. To do this, they even have to rescue little Banana Birds from crystal grottos scattered around this archipelago. Credit for this one goes to RUclipsr ''The Geek Critique'', where he explained this as a possible reason for why the Kremlings want DK's bananas so badly -- because they're magical, and thus of unmistakable value.
DK Jungle Climber.
Need to play it
@@TheJustintendothe banana aliens are from that game
@ It’s a DS game. May support one of the theories.
It’s the sequel to King of Swing on the GBA
In an earlier video you talked about the temples. I bet the acient Kremlin kingdom used the Bannna's powers.
My head cannon is the Kongs created the Tiki's and created its own kingdombti deafet the Kremlins.
However crystal coconuts seem to also have power as well. So I wonder how thet fit into the Bannnas.
I agree!!
And you *KNOW* Miyamoto won't care enough to elaborate 😂
😂😭
The idea of bananas containing the magic of the island makes the most sense to me, but I don't think they're used as currency - I think they're what the currency is BACKED by. The reason why the coins have bananas on them is because each coin represents ownership of a certain number of bananas. The Kong economy is on the banana standard.
This was cool to consider, I've always considered the bananas as the game's MacGuffin, just a thing they collect irrelevant to the plot but it's fun to consider the Lore implications of these bananas. I am finishing up Donkey Kong Country 3 and then I will play Returns HD next so this is fresh and something I will keep in mind. I really enjoy these Lore videos so far. Also thinking about how they are called "Beats" in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and are directly related to your power when you fight a boss so that seems like you are onto something. I also really appreciate that this wasn't just another video of, "Hey did you know that Donkey Kong Country is an allegory for the banana wars?" Ooooooo.
If you haven't heard, the banana hoard and the cave are explained in the Fleetway Comic of Donkey Kong Country. Or at least, they were if the series didn't get cancelled...
What about the banana birds and banana fairies
Bananas: The true source of power.
🙌🏻
Bananas are created from the Light Force and hidden around Donkey Kong Island by the Picori to make monkeys happy. Zelda and Mario are the same Universe theory SUPER CONFIRMED
...Even in smash Bros Brawl, enemies steals that bananas.
Exactly!
My favorite theory is that they’re literally just regular bananas. The Kongs know that they’re just regular bananas but they love bananas so much that stealing them is enough to basically start a war over.
Meanwhile K Rool has no idea what he’s stealing is essentially just a fruit. Bananas don’t exist naturally on Crocodile Isle and as crocodiles the Kremlings aren’t super familiar with fruit anyway, so they just see this big pile under DK’s house when they first invade and assume it must be valuable so they take them.
Then once they see how obsessed the Kongs are with getting them back it just kind of confirms their initial suspicion. “Aha! They must be valuable or some sort of mystical energy source, or else why would they want them so bad?”
As for the Tikis, they’re just generally magical and are able to use any organic matter as a power source so bananas work as well as anything.
What the heck you just blew my mind rn 😮
I love these videos!
Thank you!!! :)
Magical bananas seems right. In Tropical Freeze, surrounding islands also worship the banana gods.
Im personally more interested by the weird fish shrines in that game? Theyre too old to be snowmad structures and show up in kong ruins...which also raises the question of why snomad runes go in Kong Ruins.
Doesn’t returns 3ds have that bonus world where they show the bananas are like a mystical resource? Wonder if that was ported to the switch version
Yes!!
What I got from DKCR is that the tikis are magical beings themselves and they use the bananas as a source of food for the hypnotized animals/energy for their devices/matter to transform into something else (like the last boss hands).
Also, and very important, 64 is not a Country game.
Banana juice makes the tikis come to life
Another incredible video‼️🍌‼️
Thank you bro!!
They definitely make dk live longer
On theory #4, that means Bananas are Tiberium
1:53 Massive? You Know What Else Is Massive!? >:3
DON'T SAY IT
I like the banana = power, because banana juice in returns and tropical freeze grants you temporally invincibly, eating 20 bananas in DK king of swing grants you invincibly more or less like a star in Mario. Hell, Mario party 9 DK board has 5 bananas merging into a power star at the winners results. So bananas have star power is my theory.
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Guess you could say this video has a certain Appeal to me. You did let a few things Slip by you, but i won't Bunch them all together here. I already said them on the discord, so I think i'lll Split. Vid's still Golden though! :)
🙌🏻😁
I wonder who made the golden animal statues in the 1st game and why.
Great now I want bananas😢
😂😭
After quickly scrolling through your video, it seems you don't even mention Jungle Climber, a DK game where the villain is a banana from space.
You might want to have a look at this.
Yep. I need to play it.
@@TheJustintendo It's actually pretty good. It has some very unique gameplay.
🚬🗿👍
