In my short film, Nick goes to warn Jon Anderson, not knowing that the two hitmen followed him. They do kill Jon. As to the final fate of Nick, I leave that to each viewer. Thank you for watching, truly.
I love Twin Peaks both the original and the recently new one, and David Lynch is one of my favorite filmmakers. However, for this short film, I was trying to go for the Old School Film Noir vibe. Thank you for your interest.
I shot this way back in 2001 for my film school project, so the cost would be vastly different now adjusted for inflation. Also, the actors and most of the crew worked for free, so keep that in mind. Approximately, it cost me around $8,000.00 (in student loan) to make this, but if I had to pay everyone $100 dollars a day, it would be far more expensive. It took us 3 1/2 days to shoot everything. Thanks for your interest.
Thank you for watching my student film and taking the time to ask. If you mean Jon Anderson the boxer, yes he was killed by the hitmen. If you mean Nick, I want to leave that ending ambiguous and let the audience decide. There's a great adaptation by Robert Siodmak, starring Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardener that you should watch. Thank you again.
You can't outrun your Fate. The Swede knew this and finally, so did Nick. Thank you again for your interest. It means the world to me. @@PhillipCreeper
You call it a 'short story masterpiece' and then change Hemingway's work with an adaptation? If it is a masterpiece then keep it the way it was written otherwise write your own stuff or at least take Hemingway and his name out of it. Very good cinematic production anyway, actually excellent work.
That's why it's called an "adaptation". You should check out Robert Siodmak's 1946 adaptation and Don Sigel's 1964s and see how much they deviated from the original source material. I chose to exercise my creative freedom to make changes and I stand by them. Thanks for the compliment on the production value, btw, I had a great crew working their hearts out on this short film in very trying circumstances for little to no money with only a 3 1/2 day shooting schedule. Especial kudos to Michael Hamilton the cinematographer.
Btw, if you want a faithful adaptation, check out Andrei Tarkovsky's 1956 student film; it's the closest to word-for-word adaptation you'll probably get. ruclips.net/video/jofHN3PTpVg/видео.html
Hemmingway did not complain that the 1946 version didn't follow his short story, in fact he stated “It is a good picture and the only good picture ever made of a story of mine.” So he'd likely not complain about this version, and likely would have liked it as well. The reason being that, like the 1946 version, this version keeps Hemmingway's intent which is that Nick Adams's small town innocent outlook at life is killed by a visit from cold-blooded murderers.
Thank you for your interest. I was working on a web comedy series with a friend. We had the script finished and was looking for financing, but then in early 2013 I found out I had Stage-2A Colo-rectal cancer and well that kind of put everything on hold for a long while. I am currently working on some spec scripts but for production-wise, my health after the chemo, radiation therapies and two surgeries doesn't make it likely. Thank you again for your interest.
This modern version was pretty good. The hit men were terrifying. Great suspense.
Thank you very much for your kind words. It is much appreciated.
FANTASTIC!
Thank you!

Thank you for your kind word. It's much appreciated. Have a very Happy Holidays and a Great New Year!
If you want to know the difference between good filmmaking and lackluster filmmaking, watch the tarkovsky version then compare to this
I saw both versions and still think this version is tops.
It's better. Thanks🌹
Is it true that John anderson informed by Nick? Or 2 hitmen are the 1st who went to Anderson's house, and Nick fails to inform John?

liked it!
Thank you very much!
I like the idea when you delete the black cook character well done 👏👏👏💖
Ah shit! I totally forgot about this.😛
Are you influenced by twin peaks?

I think Nick joined them because he made no effort to run.

BTW, I did change the name of Ole to Jon, because I thought "Ole" might sound to alien to my audience. I could be wrong.
