Have you ever taken the plunge and tried the “mowing down” pruning method? How did it go? Was it as nerve-wracking for you as it was for me??? 😱

The most complete guide I’ve seen for pruning blueberries. This is my first time growing thornless blackberries. I started with some bare roots in the spring and I can’t believe how much they grew and filled out with so many canes. I’m in 6a and I’m not sure if the Prime Ark Freedom canes will make it through this winter. If they do, I’ll be extremely happy. If they don’t make it, I’ll just cut them off at ground level and start fresh in the spring. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of pruning. I took a few tips that I cut off and I’m trying to get them to root for free plants. It’s been almost 2 weeks now and they’re looking good. I just subscribed to your channel and will pass it along to my friends. 😊

Thank you John! Glad I could help. It can be a little confusing, but once you boil it down into some basic ideas, it makes sense (I hope! LOL).

Hey this was a high quality video with lots of good information, thank you 🙂
Is a trellis required for an erect/semi-erect bush?

My opinion is no, at least not for the varieties I have. If you want them contained to a tight space, though, not sprawling all over the place, a trellis will help with that. I needed them to stay in their lane, so that's why I used trellises. I think, too, you won't need a trellis as much if you're good about controlling the height. Good luck!

Great vid. Tks. I'd love to know how to look at a plant and know if it's a raspberry vs a blackberry. I have a few plants that I can't identify.

It IS tricky! The leaves are very similar. I've found that the blackberry fruits are glossier and the (mature) raspberry stems are a lot thinner. And raspberries sprawl more. When in doubt, eat 'em both and call it a "yummy berry" 🤣🤣🤣

Curious what to do with trailing types besides a mow down

You will definitely get more if you help harvest! 😈

They're so yummy, Joy! Do you have primocane or floricane bearing? Hopefully you'll harvest this year, even if a little. 😋
