Try Torneko again. Made by the same company of the roguelike shiren the wandered franchise by chunsoft. I think that this game is easier than the shiren franchise by a bit. I mean it was not the RPG title you where maybe looking for at the time but at least it was a good representation of the Rogue: dungeons of doom done in a Japanese style of gameplay. Kinda like chess where you get better at the game with more practice at knowing how to counter certain enemies or when to use differnt items in your inventory effectively. Did this title come with a tutorial puzzle section to help grapple the different items? I know it's kinda a time sink to get a good grasp on these kinda titles. Working through my DS copy and the moment I was able to get a companion on the journey I was able to progress further down the line.
I loved his dad's jokes. He was pretty quick with it.not all where amazing but whose batting perfectly? He just seems to usually have some kind of twist or word play or opposite almost ready to go. Like when he's showing the Saturn box, with the bald woman, that's prob my favorite
I lost my dad at a young age and watching these vids over the last year have been so Awsome I love your dad he seems like such a Awsome fun guy I’m sorry for your loss but I’m glad you have these amazing positive memories
Was just watching another Christmas video of yours when this popped up. Your Christmas videos are my favorite because of not only the love of video games, but more importantly, family. Reminds me of my family around this time. Thanks for these, man. I truly cherish your videos
Nice, We're right around the same age, I was born in December '84 and will be 39 on the 22nd, just watching this channel damn near makes me wanna cry man, It just takes me back to a simpler time when life was just fun and everybody was still alive and healthy and thinking how technology was what we could imagine it to be at the time and thinking how cutting edge it was, Man I miss these day's where everything just seemed so simple and everybody was just happy, the 90's pre 9/11 life was just different bruh, I really appreciate the channel and content and a BIG fan brother..💯
The SNES version of Aladdin. How it started: "YES THANK YOU I'VE WANTED THIS SO MUCH IT LOOKS AWESOME!" How it ended: "Where is the sword? There's no sword?! APPLES?!"
I 4got bout that game lol and lion king was really hard as well couldn't get past stupid ostrich throwing part. There was 1 game my dad bought me at a pawn shop 1 time I can't remember the name of it it was on Sega but it was worst game I ever played ur this ninja dude and there's no map basically and u jus teleport around places and die lol it was awful wish I cud remember it dude looked kinda like kung lao
Aladdin on SNES rocks! I thought it was okay when I was a kid but like most people I preferred the Genesis version. But I just picked up Aladdin SNES for 9.99 and had a ton of fun with it. I want to play through it again already!
Your one of my top channels. Nostalgia trip. Love the old footage. You’re lucky to have had it. Sorry about your dad. Everytime I see footage of you two it makes me sad. I’m fortunate to still have mine.
I got Mario is Missing for my 10th birthday. My parents knew they bought me a dud and then got me another game (Spiderman and X-men vs Arcades Revenge) which also stunk but was atleast was an adventure game.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours Tyler. Thanks for the PSA. Off topic: That Bruce Wayne/Batman action figure at 0:34 was the absolute greatest thing ever back then. All of the ToyBiz/Kenner toys from Batman ('89) were amazing.
I remember getting Surf Ninjas when I got my Game Gear at Christmas in 93. Thankfully, I ended up getting other games that were actually good to make up for it. Still one of my favorite Christmases ever!
How this has 9 thousand views more than the previous christmas episode is beyond me. I think it's your narration. You're really a great narrator. At the same time, I love how you put out the sega Christmas episode. For me personally, I'm such a huge fan of the way you compose your videos. Whatever decision you make, I am on board. Congrats to you and merry Christmas!
Gotta love your Dads split second timing on his jokes! My worst christmas game would have to be Austin Powers for the Gameboy Colour (though at the time I kinda liked it, baby!)
There was one year back in the original Xbox days where I think my parents either didn’t know what I wanted for Christmas or they waited too late to shop, so I literally just got like 15 or 20 games. It was one of my best Christmas memories cause we had a blizzard and had off school for 3 weeks, so I was playing SSX, Greg Hastings Paintball, Fable, and so many other amazing games
The only time I had a disappointing Christmas video game story was in 1993. My dad asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told him I wanted a couple more games for my Genesis because even though it came with Sonic 1 I only had maybe 1 or 2 other games that I don't remember at the time and most of the time my parents took me for video rentals. When I woke up at 2am or 3am my mom let me start opening my gifts. As I start peeling back the paper I see Superman. I couldn't understand why he picked that out of all games when I've never been a big Superman fan but I didn't want to hurt my dad's feelings so I pretended to be happy and gave him a big hug. My assumptions were right too because when I popped the game in I thought it was so awful. Even though I played it more since I had nothing else in my collection I kinda liked the game a little bit at certain parts but the game overall just has the bland graphics, lackluster Superman abilities, and both enemies and bosses are such hit sponges that make the game drag on way too long and it's so unforgiving with the continues. The next go round on my birthday in 1994 he shocked me when he bought me Streets Of Rage 3 but little did I know those two moments of Christmas in 1993 and my birthday in 1994 would be the last time I saw him as he passed away in November of 1994. I love you dad and I miss you the same 29 years later.
I am the youngest of 8 siblings so as a child back in the 80s, getting new games were very few and far in between. And when I did receive one, I had to make the most of it. Even if some were really bad, I kept playing them which makes me have very fond memories playing them.
Here's how this is BS. Back in these days, when you paid for nothing, had no money, and had very little access to anything that wasn't available in stores (unlike now), WE WERE HAPPY AS HELL TO GET ANY GAME.
Yes, no one was ever disappointed with a game they got from an uninformed parent or relative in the history of gaming. I worked at EB Games from 2003-2008. I saw PLENTY of disappointed kids and teens returning or exchanging their games for better ones. It’s sort of the nature of retail and consumerism.
Young kid version of you looks EXACTLY like my older brother when he was that age. The resemblance is uncanny back then. Now...yall look completely different but i wouldve mistaken you for him if i saw you back then. Craziness
Love seeing the Christmas footage! Its nice that you have proof that you really did get these games and didn't turn out to be a serial killer... yet...
Death Crimson on the Saturn is one of the best games ever made. Not because it’s well made but because it’s so uniquely bad. I like how SSFF thinks about games. There are no good or bad games, only interesting or uninteresting.
Ghostbusters was when i learned not all games were equally as good😂. Went from hours of mario/track & field/duck hunt.....to Ghostbusters on Christmas day😂😂😂. Immediately went back to mario and track & field the rest of my Christmas.
I pretty much was in luck that my dad had quite the talent to pick good games. He only failed once for christmas and that was Aerial Assault on the Master System. Not a horrible game, but thinking back, definitely the worst i got for christmas from him.
I remember being so excited when I opened a gift and it was....Shaq Fu for the Genesis. Even as an added bonus it came with Shaq rap CD and my brother just got a cd player lol
I never really got a bad game for Xmas as a kid. I did have one memorable anti-climatic moment though. When I was 9 in 1988 I first got an NES. My Mom, like most mothers, had no idea about games. She bought Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode to get packed along with my NES that Xmas. I opened it and didn't know wtf I was looking at. My mom noticing my look of befuddlement said 'I thought it looked pretty action packed with all the guns and stuff. All the other games looked awfully childish'. Well I'm 9 Mom but w/e. Anyhow, it turned out to be a pretty great game that covered multiple genres before games tried to do stuff like that. And it had some spicy adult content my preteen brain thought was hilarious. Good job Mom. Solid under the radar choice
Ever finished Ghostbusters? Virtually impossible. But the die hards that managed to not throw the game out of the window after the never ending 22 floors, would finally reach the roof. And then when you defeat Zuul, you get a black screen with a message in broken English: "Conglaturation" you have completed a great game and "prooved" the justice of our culture. Now go and rest our heroes" 😮😂 Haha wtf. That's all? No cool image or anything? After all that torture, that was our reward... 80's kids like us surely were build differently.
I have to put out run on my amstrad cpc as my worst game for Christmas ever.a double cassette with 1 cassette to play on your audio tape deck, what a stinker! Good video
Torneko is actually a pretty good game if you like Mystery Dungeon/Roguelike dungeon crawlers. It sold really well in Japan, but for some reason it was hated in America (at least by the gaming media).
First time watcher here. I got my NES in 1990, at age 14 with SMB & Duck Hunt. I got my first new game Christmas of '91; Kung Fu. You don't realize how spoiled you sound.
I remember renting Ghost Busters out of my hard-earned allowance. I remember feeling rage for my first time, like I somehow was duped. I vowed to always check video game magazines first for reviews. haha.
The funny reason why bubsy 3D didn’t work so well was that the developers absolutely hated bubsy at this point and HATED working on its games. So far that they tortured their special bubsy plushes they got from hiring or being apart of their team. They literally dismantled their plushes 😅
When myself and my sister were kids I remember our younger neighbour running happily up to our door xmas morning with his new copy of bubsy 3d. Poor little bastard.
I also lost my dad to Cancer when I was around 12. His two favorite games were Super Mario Land and Terri's Blast. And I think Donkey Kong Land. But I'd definitely say Terri's Blast was his favorite. We eventually got the translucent purple Gameboy color with the Pelican magnifying glass to make the screen look larger and it actually does a good job at it too. Good memories. =]
7:00 LOL 8 EYES. My sister voluntarily bought that at Toys R Us with her own $19.99 as kids. I dont know why she bought it. It was only one of a half dozen NES games we had. I dont know whats worse. Getting it as your gift or actually buying it.
30 years ago this Friday (the 19th), my 10th bday, I got the gift I begged and begged and begged my parents for: The Super Scope 6. That will go down as one of the worst gifts ever and my ascension into the harsh reality that not everything video game related is going to be awesome lol
Ohhhh can't wait to watch this when I get home from work lol. We've all had random Christmas games you'll never forget. There were some I absolutely hated the Christmas morning but liked later on like Robocop 2 and Metal Mech on NES
Ghostbusters!! Ghostbusters!! I got it on Xmas ‘88 too. I was not the only one. My most memorable gaming disappointment as a child for the NES. And this is a David Crane game!! I am even more confused now how this came to be.
Oh god I remember some of these games! I was trying to think Rastan? Then once I saw the game playing I fondly remembered playing that in arcades, great game, had no idea a sequel happened. And that’s for the best it looks like lol. Xperts was awful, Mario is missing was even worse. I had a lot of bad games growing up in the 80s and 90s. But the one I remember most was Chester Cheetah for Snes. I believe was the 2nd game, yes crazy stuff there were 2 lol. But that game angered me so much I took it out of my snes and tossed it across my room and ended up breaking it lol
I loved Surf 🏄♀️ Ninjas, 🥷 the movie and the game! 🕹🎮🥰😍 I could only get halfway through or sometimes beat level 4 the desert before getting an official game over.
I'll take your word for it, but from the footage, 8 Eyes looks kinda neat. 🤷♂️ Also, even if you don't like Torneko, it's worth a couple hundred bucks now. Parents don't always get it right (somehow mine generally managed to pick well) but it's important to be grateful. Ultimately, they were trying to make you happy.
Nice video. You know, it's true many of those games weren't great. But imagine someone, somewhere on this planet actually got Superman 64, or Earthworm Jim 3D for Christmas. It happened. Someone had to go through that.
I got a good one. As a 90s kid, I had a SNES but also really wanted a Genesis/MegaDrive. Asked my dad repeatedly all year long. Christmas day I saw a console sized box, got super excited. Opened a TG16...
Dragon Warrior the original for the NES was my intro to RPGS and it some the best memories I have. Myself and my boy Joe spent countless hours playing the 4 for the NES. Good times
19:15 Looks like a "Mystery Dungeon" game to me. At the time, there was likely NOTHING else like it in the West on Consoles. Only other game I can think of like it would of been Shiren the Wanderer but that was stuck in Japan for the N64. I'd suggest giving it 1 hour and if you find that you can't put up with the core gameplay and the plot doesn't do anything for you . . . try Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue on the original DS and if that doesn't float your boat then put both up for sale.
There were a lot of games worse than E.T on the Atari 2600, it's infamous because of A. People expecting it to be a lot better than it is. B. Everyone knows E.T. as in the movie. Main thing that confuses people about it is WHY keep falling in holes, which basically if any PIXEL of E.T touches a hole, you fall in, even if it's his head. @@mariokart8715
This is what happens when the parents depend on the wrong clerk at the store. Remember when Bart Simpson gets 'Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge' instead of "Bonestorm?" Mistakes were made...I have to defend 8 Eyes in this case. Somehow we never had Castlevania as kids, but this instead. They play so similar I realized later and really enjoyed the game honestly.
I remember I got Bubsy and my first Smashing Pumpkins album together from a neighbor. Not.know SP I tossed the album aside and it collected dust for months. Bubsy sucked of course and I hated it but went another year before hearing what then became one of my favorite albums of all time... Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
Years ago, you were grateful for every game you got, because even if it was bad, you could trade it in for something else. Today, if you download a bad game....you're stuck o_o
yeah most of us didnt get a ton of games every year, 3-4 games a year? unlike someone who shall remain nameless got that many games and more in a single event.
Looking back I never got a bad game cause my mom would rent games a lot then just buy whatever I liked down the line it's the reason I left starfox adventures sealed so we could exchange it for Mario party 4 after Christmas
I came from a poor family with poor relatives. Getting videogames for birthday or Christmas was just NOT a thing. So I can't really relate to this much. It wasn't until I was well into my adult years that my friends were able to gift me videogames, and I still treasure them. Don't think I've gotten a bad game for the holidays yet, but at this point I also know how to do my research. If you grew up getting games for the holidays, consider yourself lucky. Some of use sadly didn't get to experience that.
Okay so coming from a poor family you must be used to disappointment, well that’s how we feel when we get a game that turns out to be a dud- disappointed, especially if they are gifts.
Funny story about Ghostbusters- around the summer of 2003 when I was 7 my mom bought a sega master system with about eight or so games from a yard sale. One of the games was Ghostbusters, and I remember the first thing she said about it as she saw me spending all that money at the start all willy nilly was "you're terrible with money" (referring to me). Now, I'm the one helping her with bills and whatnot.
Dude. Death Crimson has a reputation that precedes it. It's like King Kusoge in Japan, especially the Saturn version, which is three times worse than the sequel. Your parents should have skipped Christmas and saved that one for April Fool's day.
"They look like they could be running on an Atari 2600" Ironically I own the Atari 2600 version, the NES version, and the Sega Master System version of Ghostbusters. And there isn't much difference between the Atari and NES versions.
I got Bubsy 3D from my parents well-meaning friends that had no kids of their own, probably was the cheapest thing on the shelf. That said, we gave it a shot and it still provides jokes all these years later.

Came to say the same thing!!!

Actually sounds like something Tony soprano would say lol.
I loved his dad's jokes. He was pretty quick with it.not all where amazing but whose batting perfectly? He just seems to usually have some kind of twist or word play or opposite almost ready to go. Like when he's showing the Saturn box, with the bald woman, that's prob my favorite
"Well now you found him" - He had that dad joke loaded in the chamber for weeks ready to unload it on his poor innocent family at christmas.
I lost my dad at a young age and watching these vids over the last year have been so Awsome I love your dad he seems like such a Awsome fun guy I’m sorry for your loss but I’m glad you have these amazing positive memories
Tyler lost his dad when he was older.
As an indian kid, seeing the clothes and hairstyle of your neighbors resonates with me. Happy holidays! Rip saikyomog :)

I loved Rastan. I’ve almost bought a Rastan stand up cabinet arcade game. The audio was mesmerizing.
The SNES version of Aladdin.
How it started: "YES THANK YOU I'VE WANTED THIS SO MUCH IT LOOKS AWESOME!"
How it ended: "Where is the sword? There's no sword?! APPLES?!"

When your family buys THAT many video games, you’re bound to end up with a few duds.
They owned over 1000 of them.
@@mariokart8715 Ummm, yeah, I’m aware… which is why I said what I said.
I so feel your pain on Ghostbusters. The sega version rocked so hard, what a disappointment to see the Nintendo version got botched. 😢
RIP SAIKYOMOG.I will never unsubscribe from your channel.F...cancer.
I just realized that every RUclipsr with an award keeps it on the wall on the videos. Does RUclips make people display them?
I hate it when people do this. Makes them come off as a showoff..
Richy Rich over here clearly never received a Tiger handheld. 😅😉
I was a ninja like 5 years in a row for Halloween that’s how badass I thought ninjas were
always a good day when tyler posts!
This is such an American thing to record your kids opening presents, especially the camcorder days
I got Pryzm one year. I heard Billy from game chasers loves 8 eyes.
I really enjoyed the commercial with a tiny amount of content attached
it is amazing not only how much footage you have from this time how much you still managed to save throughout the time
I remember getting, City Connection for NES. Even though it sucked, I did play it a bunch.
I got Bubsy 3D the Christmas of release and since I had so few games at the time, having nothing to compare it to, I thought it was amazing! 😆
yes. It wasn't that bad. There's much worse out there. For one, anything produced on the Atari 2600
Such as ET. That video game crash was 40 years ago this year.
Everything you need to know about Ghostbusters on the NES has been said on AVGN
This is what happens when the parents depend on the wrong clerk at the store. Remember when Bart Simpson gets 'Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge' instead of "Bonestorm?" Mistakes were made...I have to defend 8 Eyes in this case. Somehow we never had Castlevania as kids, but this instead. They play so similar I realized later and really enjoyed the game honestly.
One of my favorite Simpsons episodes
Love your channel. Happen to come across it right on Christmas 😆
Did you ever play SOCOM U.S. NAVY SEALs?
I got Shaq-fu…my brother got NHL ‘94. four years before I got Dick Tracy, my brother got Ninja Turtles…i had the worst luck then 😢
I love Rastan II or, Nastar Warrior as it was known in the arcade. Yeah, it's not Rastan, but maybe I'm wearing nostalgia goggles.
At first I hated I got Monster Party for NES but over time see it's kinda genius for a Bandai game.
I love friends, and I'm glad we have the same taste!
To me the best ghostbusters game will always be the ghostbusters game for xbox 360 that had the original cast in it voicing their characters
That game is great it also got a remesterd port on ps4 xbox one and switch.
Bubsy 3D is probably easily the worst game ever made! Can’t believe they released that game!
Anything Bubsy is an abomination to gaming.
It's fun to play now though
Dora The Explorer: Barnyard Buddies makes Bubsy 3D look like Final Fantasy VII
@@AngryCalvin I agree Bubsy has always been terrible he didn’t deserve a comeback
no it wasn't. Not even close. Pretty much everything on the Atari 2600 was tho. Despite growing up with it, that was a dog console.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight.
And then you have Scott the woz getting all those trashy games as a kid, but hey it made for a great video so hey.
Conker’s Bad Fur Day was one of the worst too.
Conker's Bad Fur Day wasn't a terrible game, a terrible game to give to a kid sure, but that's why it was rated M or 15+ in the UK.@@mariokart8715
Roadrunner Death Valley Ralley, I was super stoked to get this when it came out. Boy oh boy, was I disappointed
I liked 8 eyes but unless you're paying attention to put the stones in right order its gonna really suck when you finish it
This is THE ONLY type of nostalgia you WISH you could delete OUT of your mind.
How does the footage still look so good so many years later? What camcorder did your dad use hahah
Video 8 tape stored well. Taken from the source
This is such a top notch channel, well done
Funny story about Ghostbusters- around the summer of 2003 when I was 7 my mom bought a sega master system with about eight or so games from a yard sale. One of the games was Ghostbusters, and I remember the first thing she said about it as she saw me spending all that money at the start all willy nilly was "you're terrible with money" (referring to me). Now, I'm the one helping her with bills and whatnot.
This Ghostbusters game looks to be the same game as the Atari version. Weird thing is as im watch this, im also watching Ghostbusters on TV lol.
Damn your best Christmas haul was better than every Christmas I ever had combined lol
didn't get many games on christmas back in the day but now i'm happy my first was donkey kong country lol
Dude. Death Crimson has a reputation that precedes it. It's like King Kusoge in Japan, especially the Saturn version, which is three times worse than the sequel. Your parents should have skipped Christmas and saved that one for April Fool's day.
Is your profile picture thar creepy enemy that guards the keys in Super Mario Bros. 2? =}
@@RighteousnessWillPrevail It is indeed!
Coincidence that Santa looks like the angry video game nerd??
"They look like they could be running on an Atari 2600"
Ironically I own the Atari 2600 version, the NES version, and the Sega Master System version of Ghostbusters. And there isn't much difference between the Atari and NES versions.
From 1980-Now I’ve been blessed to have a nice Christmas
Getting a Bubsy game in your stalking is a step lower than getting a lump of coal. If not a step lower than 💩 in your stalking.
I got Bubsy 3D from my parents well-meaning friends that had no kids of their own, probably was the cheapest thing on the shelf. That said, we gave it a shot and it still provides jokes all these years later.
I’m so so sorry dude you, and him must be kindred spirits because that’s harsh.
