Pretty nice looking radio indeed, dude. Looks really well built! 😊
Thanks for the teardown!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks as always brother :)
yes true.. compared to what we're used to these days (Jumper / Radiomaster / etc) this looks like an actual radio :D
Cheers and have a good week!
This is not a teardown. This is "I took off the back cover"
Yeah sure... it's an expensive radio to me, and I want to be able to use it..
I'll happily let channels that get this stuff for free dig into it :)
Hi, I have received mine today. they have changed few things on the newer batch I guess added a plastic protrusion on the back where you have holes for cooling fan might be a bigger fan I think. and there is a jumper pins next to hdmi port not sure what that is for also got a jumper plug in the packaging. Came with ethos 1.4.0 and new hdzero firmware I guess telemetry seems do display as needed.
Interesting! I don't have a pre-production version, on the other hand it's good to see they improve things when it's needed..
I will have to have words with Frsky about this :P
Do you have then "normal" current HDzero OSD that I didn't have??
@@DutchRC yes, osd is the normal looking one where u can configure from betaflight and clicking display button toggles osd on and off
@@ramchandyalamanchili8258 Sooooo just to be perfectje clear.. you get the OSD that I had in my Hawkeye monitor ruclips.net/video/eR6RtgXe-P0/видео.html ??
@@DutchRC yes, it looks like in your monitor. In the info tab I see video compression version 2. They might have updated hdzero version now. I got a word from ethos dev that they are going to roll out an update for x20hd soon. Hope we all get the same updates after that
@@ramchandyalamanchili8258 the Ethos Suite sees my radio as a Tandem XE (g*d dammit :P)
And I don't see a downloadable bootloader for the HD.. grmbl
Anyone know the 900Mhz output power of this radio ?
Good question! I have not looked into that myself yet (but I did just order a Tandem receiver to test things)
25mW according to the test report that FrSky submitted for FCC approval.
@@LGBender Disappointingly low compared with say Crossfire, hardly worth adding additional antenna on the S version for longer range on 868/915mhz
This radio is badass, but I have a question, can you output the hdzero video to your goggles with a hdmi cable?
Good question and yes.. that is what the port is there for.. I haven't found a cable for it yet (as my Orqa goggle has a different HDMI port) but that should be a nice setup :)
Another quick update, I'm getting better results using dji fpv goggles v1 antennas. They fit perfectly, matches to radio color and very low profile
I am then assuming you run LHCP antenne on your quad?
@@DutchRC nope, linear antenna. For whatever reason I get more breakups at home using stock antennas while dji perform far superior
@@ramchandyalamanchili8258 Did you notice Frsky addad a HDzero USB programmer to their linup??
That would enable people that have this radio to update their VTX's :)
I also noticed the Frsky monitor has a firmware flasher-port..
www.frsky-rc.com/product/hdz-vtx-upgrade-tool/
@@DutchRC yes, have seen that but the shipping cost is too much. Have to wait for a bit for defiance rc or some other retailers grab them
@@DutchRC and also Im able to run crossfire on mine. Have to modify the existing lua but no proper telemetry yet have to wait for 1.4.3 release
Hello i have a Dragonlink receiver that i would like to use with this radio i listened very closely and i heard it does 2.4 and 900 but can i use my 433 into the module bay and connect as an external module?
Hi there :)
soooo I think in the past that would have been done via the trainer-port of the radio? I have never used Dragonlink myself but it has been around a Long time...
So connecting your module via the trainer port can still be done (with allmost any radio really)..
Using it as an external module would be more of a challenge as the module bay of this radio is NOT a JR-style bay but a micro-module bay..
What do you think?
@@DutchRC as long as i it has option of reading what is connected as an option I’m sure it can be detected and used so long as i am not obligated to using the set frequency ranges of the radio because then I’d have to buy 900mhz Dragonlink and that would be painful because i use 1.2ghz to fly with it would definitely cause interference in my video
@@skyforce1983 that should work.. you can disable both the internal 900mhz and/or 2.4Ghz of the radio itself.. should not interfere with any kind of external module or video link
@@DutchRC thank you 🙏
How hard is it to mod the internal R9 module to support ELRS and run EdgeTX as the OS?
I would think there would not be any hardware modding needed but you Would need new firmware for it.. The R9 modules can be used for ELRS without mods right?
@@DutchRC that's what I thought I understood... lol I could be wrong. If this is the case, it might be a simple module firmware rewrite or it may require a complete OS rewrite.
@@cwwisk the RF modules have seperate firmware's.. in the Ethos ecosystem as well.. So Someone would have to write the firmware for that internal module :) (I don't think the radio is popular with drone pilots so that might never happen)
@@DutchRC I fly drones and planes, both FPV and LOS. If they simply incorporated an old R9 module inside, it might already have firmware available...
