    Having never played this before, I think I'm more confused now. Why are there 9 blocks in the same area of the field at 2:46? Once you knock down the blocks in the field, then what? What happens to them? Do they go back to the baseline?

    • @kubbunited9379
      @kubbunited9379  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Goldiemcg, any kubbs that get toppled (field and baseline kubbs) in a round (let's say by the red team) are then thrown back as field kubbs by the blue team that the red team will stand up and then the blue team must knock all of them over before attacking their baseline kubbs. We have a poster of the rules on our website that may help you understand. www.kubbunited.com/rules-of-kubb/

      Until they have thrown their 6 batons for the round. There are some variants that have been proposed like only getting one chance. I personally like only giving 1 chance, but it hasn't gotten much traction.

    How to throw is a rule that are ignored by many who play the game. Many also likes to play with a bigger field, to make the game more challenging.

  • @2itch
    @2itch 6 лет назад +4

    Hey! Thanks for the tutorial. Quick question: are field kubbs taken out of the game entirely once they've been knocked out? i.e. are the baseline kubbs the only ones that are thrown into the opponents half?

    • @fitzgev
      @fitzgev 6 лет назад +5

      2itch Tournament rules like shown on this video, don’t eliminate the field kubbs. Both baseline and field kubbs knocked down in a round are tossed back. There is a variant to shorten the game called Mortal Field Kubbs that eliminates the field kubbs after they are knocked down.

      We usually throw once over and then removes it :3 This tournament version where they aren't removed we call infinity kubb, because it usually takes 1,5-2h instead of 10-30 minutes per game ^^

    • @fitzgev
      @fitzgev 3 года назад

      @@DerpwaldDuck in the tournaments I have ran, 90% of the games are completed under our 25 minute time limit. Once players get better and using the advantage line rules helps speed up the game, but we do get the occasional "infinite game" :)

    Add on rule. When going for the "Queen" as we call it. You have to stand with your back to the Queen and shoot between your legs, with your weak hand. Also is that the American way to pronounce Kubb or have I always said it wrong?

    • @fitzgev
      @fitzgev Год назад

      Yes, in the US that is how kubb has been pronounced. I have heard that some people play with shooting between your legs, but it never caught on in competitive play in the US. Not a fan of that rule as I have gotten older and balance isn't what it used to be. :)

      Also, sharing the batons might not be the best idea. Maybe each side should have their own set to use throughout the game?

    • @fitzgev
      @fitzgev 3 года назад

      @@keithmoorechannel Most (all large) tournaments were cancelled this year, so it didn't get much exploration on best practices, but this would be an interesting concession to make. You'd need double the amount of batons, but those are fairly easy to make on a large scale. There wouldn't be a great way to share the kubbs. Probably would need to wipe them off between rounds of play, but fewer people handle kubbs versus batons if you were to enforce one inkastare per team. Hopefully more events can take place next year. Stay safe everyone.

    What about towers? There's no mention of them?

    • @kubbunited9379
      @kubbunited9379  8 лет назад +2

      Hello Daniel. Thanks for the question. Stacking (or towers) is not a standard rule. It is a an alternative used in backyard play designed to speed up the game. We feel the game is more interesting and strategic when you develop the drilling technique displayed in this video to toss the Kubbs back to the opponents side of the pitch. Let us know if you have any more questions and good kubbing.

    • @toru_dj_uk
      @toru_dj_uk 8 лет назад +1

      +Kubb United interesting! I've always played the tower rule. So, you're saying no towers but the tactic is to get them close together so you can knock more at once, effectively like a tower?
      I guess the defensive has the option to flip the kubb onto the edge then end that separates them the most, right?
      Another question, I played against some Swed's the other day and they played a rule the meant once the field kubb is knocked over it's throw out of play. Madness in my mind, but had you heard of this before?
      Clearly I take my kubb rules very seriously!
      I didn't know about the 2 / 4 / 6 start either...

    • @kubbunited9379
      @kubbunited9379  8 лет назад

      +Daniel Jones Yes, you are right on grouping them and the defensive tactic. It can become the most interesting part of the game.
      The rule where you remove the Kubbs as they are knocked over as field Kubbs is another variant to speed up the game. Not an official way to play.
      Some tournaments also use a 3-6 or 4-6 start for the game. As players get better, the 6 baton opener becomes too big of an advantage and made the opening King toss the most important throw of the game. Chris Hodges wrote a very interesting blog on desmoineskubb.com about using a balanced opener.

      Glad you enjoyed it. We were charged based on time to produce it, so they did talk quickly. :) Not sure what to tell you on the pronunciation, different countries and regions pronounce words differently. It has been pronounced as rhyming with tube in the US since I learned the game in 2010. Not sure how the pronunciation started.
