- Scott Sill demonstrates how to change strings on a guitar with a Bigsby Vibrato using the Vibramate String Spoiler and via the traditional method where you bend the ends of the strings. He shows how quick and easy it is to change the strings using the string spoiler and also installs the new Vibramate Super Grip.
Scott Changes strings on a 2012 Gibson Les Paul Standard which already has the Vibramate V7 and a Bigsby B7 installed. He then switches to a 1974 Guild Starefire VI and shows how to change the strings traditionally.

You are the first person I have seen beside my self that loops the string under and over the the string coming out of the post. That method makes tuning stability a no brainer.
🤘
The innovations never stop for easier string changing!
Rock'Roll!
Hell yes
Ahhh, I remember before youtube, my first expensive guitar, a Gretch Electromatic hollow-body. Telling my dad to hold the bridge saddle in place, while I held the ball end on the peg with one hand, turned the tuner with my second hand, and held the string down at the nut with my third hand.
Nice!
So, Yeah, Scott, your video was the best one I saw on the Bigsby! I bought a Electromatic Jet with a Bigsby! IT is such a great axe!
Thank you!!
Great video dude !! you really helped me out....one of the best videos about a Bigsby there is !!
Thanks dude!
@tom Graber, thanks for stopping by. The String spoiler is real nice and does make changing strings on Bigsby equipped guitar much easier.
Ur my hero and I ordered the spoiler, vibramate and bigsby from Amazon for my 2014 ES Les Paul gold top....the spoiler is awesome as I hate restringing bigsbys...
+linxMuppet Awesome enjoy the new Bigsby, I love them myself!
You should use a capo while you're stringing a Bigsby traditionally. It will help keep the ball end from popping off.
Paul Mitten (mbvglider) I have seen that before. That is a good trick.
Nice information for change strings for bigsby arm
Thank you
You made my day :) thanks bro
Awesome glad to help
Thanks for this. I just installed a Bigsby and struggled with the 6 string. I'll use the hook with pliers until I get the spoiler.
Carl Lie the spoiler is very cool
I haven't used the Vibramate Spoiler. I need to check it out
It makes string changes nice and fast
getting a spoiler tomorrow! !
They are starting ship some guitars with a spoiler, which is killer. I hope you enjoy your new spoiler.
Hey Scott. Great vid! Liked and subscribing! I just got a Gibson LP and would love to put a Bigsby on it! Do you know if I will run into any clearance issues in my Gibson USA hardcase?
Thanks in advance!
(would have asked this on the install vid, but the latest posts were pretty old)
Tom Pava no issues with the case. You just rotate the arm clockwise till it stops, that allows the case to close without causing issues. Glad you subscribed because my next video I will do will show many of the questions like this I have gotten since making these Bigsby videos.
That string spoiler seems to make things much easier, is there any drawbacks to it? If not, I wonder why the tailpiece doesn't have one of those built in?
They actually did make one with a perm solution
I got a TSA approved case from SKB cases... Would still close/fit if I add a bigsby trem?
Yes it should
Are the screws on the Tune o matic supposed to be facing the back of the guitar, or is it just a preference thing?
Its a preference thing. Many people go either way.
Is it really just pressure holding the strings on the post? I's there something that keeps the bigsby from going down too far?
Do you mean when you dive bomb? Either way if you dive bomb or try to bend the pitch up, the Bigsby will only go so far physically because you will hit your guitar. You can really bend much upwards with a Bigsby.
Very cool, I'm definitely getting a spoiler for my Wildkat so I don't have to worry about taking 5 minutes to change a string in the dark if one breaks at a show. Why are the pins under the roller on a Bigsby anyway? It would be much easier to string if the pins were on the back, then we wouldn't need this, it's a giant PITA on a B7 with the tension bar
Glad you enjoyed the video.
They should just drill holes in the Bigsby where the pins are.
I just watched 4 videos and yours is the 1st one where I feel everything was done right. BUT, you didn't recommend to stretch the string. Was this an oversight?
Brett Huhn stretching the strings I always do no matter of it is for a guitar with a bigsby or not. I assume I didn't mention it as I was trying to show things specific to a Bigsby. Thx for the catch
Brett Huhn as I was writing this I saw I did mention stretching the strings at 2 min 40 sec mark
Strings over or under the retainer Bar , which is better for tone and pliability ?
Under the bar
Would you need to change a string while playing live? I would have a guitar tech do it while I play my backup guitar. I always bring a backup just in case.
If you can afford to pay a tech.
Ummm you have a guitar tech?
@@sillennium: If I was established enough to be touring, is it so hard to hire someone else to do that. Even my uncle's band had someone like that and they rarely toured outside their local area.
Are Vibramate String Spoilers for Bigsby Vibratos necessary at all then? I've seen advirtising for them but don't know if I should buy.
They aren't necessary but they certainly make the string change process easier especially if you are in need of changing a string quick like at a gig.
does it affect the tone?
No I do not think so
@Andy17171763, thanks so much. I hope you are able to subscribe, I will have more great videos coming.
I want to buy your product. I am from peru. How can I contact you?

If you forget about the locking string method and just do two turns and through the post there is no need for either a string spoiler or prebending.
Nice
Cut a small wedge of rubber and push it under the string pins as you put each string on. They won’t come off then.
Yep
Try the "Steve Hunter String Buddy"
lctq2 never heard of the Steve Hunter String buddy, but just checked it out. Very cool. Thanks for the tip!
@Ictq2, saw Steve Hunter at NAMM and he gave me a Steve Hunter String Buddy, so I will be doing a video on it! Thanks for pointing that out.
lctq2 shot a video on the Steve Hunter String buddy, btw...check out my channel for the video.
Please make a video on the proper way to stretch and break in your strings!
Brett Huhn umm i show that at 2 min 40 sec
YOu do, but it is not answering the questions I have a about whether this is enough. Sorry to keep asking about this, but it has plagued me and I lose time worrying about tit.
Thanks. I've been playing for 35 years and just bought a guitar with a bigsby and thought to myself as I tried to change the string: "WHY?"
Nice glad to help
Спасибо!Хорошо показали.Думаю хром лучше,извените.
Thanks.
This is stupid don't waste your money on this. All you have to do is bend the string near the ball.
MrDirtBaggins many guitar techs love this because they can change the strings very quickly, but thanks for watching. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes.
