Listened to this on an Aiwa cassette for years while travelling through SE Asia in the 80’s and 90’s. Never got tired of it. Voice tracks, overlays, dubbing, all with such finesse.
I visited France with my parents on 25th December and this was playing on the radio. My dad's car is a Peugeot 208 and he has a big collection of songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s, etc. His musical taste is perfect.
I was a 15 year old travelling to Scotland by train and had this master piece to listen to .remember watching the light and laser show when he was at London's docklands about 1985 quality night
Rewolucyjny album , ja go uwielbiam , jeżeli ktoś go nie rozumie to proponuję go wysłuchać przy zgaszonym świetle i odda się wyobraźni - niezapomniane odczucia i refleksje!!!
Fabulous. Bought it when it came out and loved it ever since. Strange to think that the Fairlight, Synclavier etc. that he used are all available as cheap software instruments now (and they never breakdown). This is a masterpiece, made at the cutting edge of technology at the time and must have been a logistical nightmare, digital sampling in its infancy and digital synthesis at the price of a house. I've used some of this equipment, both in real and software versions. It is the ultimate fun playground! Jean's use of it was utterly musical and sublime.
I'm really inspired by Jean-Michel Jarre's work and I'd like to begin with electronic music, as I can't sing and not confidence enough to sing. Do you have the name of the tools (synthetizer and all) he used to use back in his beginning of career ? I swear I could have heard it in an interview but it's no big deal if you don't have the name, maybe I could find it by watching as much interviews as necessary to find it again

K.A. Mack I wore out my chrome cassette tape copy of this around the same age. I’ve seen a page of the actual score for some of the first section, it’s crazy - each voice sample and sound effect notated, as well as separate staves for the rhythm part

Song names as I always called them 00:00 *Morning Headache*, or, "uuugh, someone stole my spaceship?" 06:48 *The Captain Blood Theme*, or, you know that game where you travel planet to planet, talk with aliens, hunt down and eliminate your clones, and pick up a hot alien woman in the end 11:42 *Honeymoon on Planet Arrakis*, or, "There is not enough liquid, Johnson!", or, don't tell the Fremen what you two did in their secret water deposit 14:55 *Playing with the Baby*, or, mommy never shuts up 19:10 *"Nininouu Strategy!"*, or, opening a cocktail bar in a busy space port 22:54 *The Big Sulk*, or, "she left me for that motherf***er" 26:11 *Disco Apocalypso*, or, "I don't care about it anymore" 30:03 *The "Vegetables" Song*, or, intersetellar trading and cheekily ripping off entire solar systems with overpriced goods 33:23 *The Show is Over*, or, Captain Blood finds out that his entire life was just a play in a theatre, annoying stuttering girl in the front row talks, the audience is walking out, critics discuss how intellectually deep the show was, the lights shut down in the hall, and Captain Blood still standing alone on the stage shouts in confusion
@@thet-guy4049 They might've known that, I cannot say! But what I can say is that there is a distinct transition in the first track, so I think it's more likely a case of them writing a little visual story, with the second half of the first track being the theme to Captain Blood.
@@spiteful6494 okay, if that's the case, it makes more sense if they wrote it like that. So maybe it wasn't necessary for me to write that comment after all.
Wow......used to have this on vinyl 30 years ago or so........haven't listened to it in a long long time. Brings back memories......music was SO much better back then....
A piece of the puzzle in this world, An epic blast of past, present and future. Michael has a profound effect on the inner deep psyche and present psychological elements of the mind. Brilliant work.
Zoolook (84), who's afraid of the art of noise (84), Kraftwerk's ELECTRIC CAFE (82 - 86) and YMO's Technodelic (1981) are the top 4 sampling albums ever made. I would rate Mark Shreeve's Legion & Crashhead in the top ten too. You rarely hear works like this because artists are stuck in a paradigm of how things should sound these days.
as you said, things should sound but not these days. SORRY TO SAY THESE DAYS ARE ALL FORGOTTEN AND WILL NEVER RETURN IN SUCH A PIONEER MANNER.....we got what we got man and that is a lot.....JEAN MICHELLE IS ONE OF THAT THINGS........BUT IT?S NOT OWR THING..............
1986, San Fernando Valley, nice herbal enhancement, sitting in my car on a warm night, first cassette I put in after getting the car decked out with a new stereo. Mind, blown.
Listened to this while accidentally high on painkillers when I was young ... hallucinations were very vivid - and I can still see them when I hear this album ... Giant Ants marching towards me!
I was 13 when this masterpiece came out and I'm almost certain that Listening to this album incessantly for years stopped me from getting laid...... A worthy sacrifice! (I only had to wait another 4yrs for that magic to happen.....BOOM)
its such a great symphonic album.......eerie, evocative, challenging I would have guessed that such excellence in music would have assisted your "getting laid" Anyway, glad it happened for you
Zoolookologie is just absolutely epic on the most epic of epic scales. That bass of that first explosive note that kicks everything off send shockwaves down my spine. I was in raptures when I heard the 12" remix for the first time!
Listened to it as an 12 year old boy on my headphones over and over together with the oxygene album. Always a little bit creepy because of the voice samples, but at the same time beautiful to close your eyes and dream away and fantasize. I want to thank Mr. Jarre for introducing my younger me, the way to electronic music. This way lasts until today...
Never be afraid of voices big guy! That will be always because we are human and we are with a lot The trick is to see voices as sounds. Sounds can be comforting, don't be afraid. It does me so good knowing this JMJ album hits you. I am 52 years old and when i was young i listened to these albums as you do. Don't be afraid, love life to the fullest. It is attended as comfort by JMJ.
that album was released more than 30 years before.. the tape i had, stayed over a month in the casette player.. I COULD LISTEN SOMETHING ELSE.. and it is one of the most pioneer J.M. JARRE'S , albums.. AND EVEN NOW, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS IT'S LIKE IT HAS BEEN RECORDER LAST MONTH.. THANK YOU MICHELLE , FOR THIS, AND FOR ALL THE OTHERS, BEFORE AND AFTER THIS ONE,, ...
This is a masterpiece of art, the art of sounddesign. As far as i know Francis Rimbert and Dominque Perrier had done the sounddesign and recordings of voice-samples from all over the world. Recorded into the state of the art sampler of that time (Fairligt CMX 8 bit) Jarre combined that sounds and created these wonderfull tracks. But i think people comming to Zoolook know all that (technical) backgroundstories :-)
i remember back i found thos cassett by accident. i used to listen to it all day n nite.. my only music . later i met a woman from france. i played this zoo look and found see loved this music also. what were the odds of meeting a girl from france who has this tape. im a black man she's white. love same music what odds. we fell in love. no joke.
It's really superb isn't it? Somethings are a bit too complex for us to understand instantly, but once we get it, you love it so much more. Lovely to read a comment like yours. Have a great day!

👍👍👍👍
Song names as I always called them
00:00 *Morning Headache*, or, "uuugh, someone stole my spaceship?"
06:48 *The Captain Blood Theme*, or, you know that game where you travel planet to planet, talk with aliens, hunt down and eliminate your clones, and pick up a hot alien woman in the end
11:42 *Honeymoon on Planet Arrakis*, or, "There is not enough liquid, Johnson!", or, don't tell the Fremen what you two did in their secret water deposit
14:55 *Playing with the Baby*, or, mommy never shuts up
19:10 *"Nininouu Strategy!"*, or, opening a cocktail bar in a busy space port
22:54 *The Big Sulk*, or, "she left me for that motherf***er"
26:11 *Disco Apocalypso*, or, "I don't care about it anymore"
30:03 *The "Vegetables" Song*, or, intersetellar trading and cheekily ripping off entire solar systems with overpriced goods
33:23 *The Show is Over*, or, Captain Blood finds out that his entire life was just a play in a theatre, annoying stuttering girl in the front row talks, the audience is walking out, critics discuss how intellectually deep the show was, the lights shut down in the hall, and Captain Blood still standing alone on the stage shouts in confusion
You are aware, that 0:00 and 6:48 is the same track, right? (It's called Ethnicolor, and it's 11 minutes long.)
But thanks for the tracklisting, btw.
06:48 are you talking about star control II? hahaha
Wow......used to have this on vinyl 30 years ago or so........haven't listened to it in a long long time. Brings back memories......music was SO much better back then....
+Anthony Sacco There exists good music today, you just have to look around a little.
CockatooDude Yes, there is some good stuff today...yet not as much as there was 30 years ago....in my humble aged estimation.
+Anthony Sacco agreed
What do you think about Brian Eno & David Byrne's "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" and Peter Gabriel's "Security" ?
I think Zoolook is in fact very influenced by My life in the bush of ghosts, released three years before... Whatever, It's a great album by itself.
as you said, things should sound but not these days.
My Life in The Bush of Ghosts - February 1981
I'd add Claire Hamill, Voices.
stunning, awesome composition...jarre at his best.
Jean Michel Jarre... Comment oublier cet homme incroyable
1986, San Fernando Valley, nice herbal enhancement, sitting in my car on a warm night, first cassette I put in after getting the car decked out with a new stereo. Mind, blown.
Geoffrey Wilde I say nice choice for a cassette to break in your new stereo....
***** ditto, sweet memories indeed
Listened to this while accidentally high on painkillers when I was young ... hallucinations were very vivid - and I can still see them when I hear this album ... Giant Ants marching towards me!
..or GI-ants..
I was 13 when this masterpiece came out and I'm almost certain that Listening to this album incessantly for years stopped me from getting laid...... A worthy sacrifice! (I only had to wait another 4yrs for that magic to happen.....BOOM)
its such a great symphonic album.......eerie, evocative, challenging
I would have guessed that such excellence in music would have assisted your "getting laid"
Anyway, glad it happened for you
same
Zoolookologie is just absolutely epic on the most epic of epic scales. That bass of that first explosive note that kicks everything off send shockwaves down my spine. I was in raptures when I heard the 12" remix for the first time!
First 6 minutes!!! When I was a child, I called it "horrible music". It was so exciting for my imagination. This days I remember these feelings
Still one of the best creative albums ever made, by any artist.
Probably the most influential album of my life.
me too
Its out there and in all ,1 big zoo
Me too!
The most original and inspiring thing Jean Michel Jarre ever did.
Increíble, espectacular, maravilloso, genial, único.. Esto es música Diosssss
i used to listen to this 20 years ago & still sounds fresh ...
The screams in the first track gives en eerie feeling of death, loss and grief. So brilliantly done.
that album was released more than 30 years before.. the tape i had, stayed over a month in the casette player..
I COULD LISTEN SOMETHING ELSE..
and it is one of the most pioneer J.M. JARRE'S , albums..
AND EVEN NOW, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS IT'S LIKE IT HAS BEEN RECORDER LAST MONTH..
THANK YOU MICHELLE , FOR THIS,
AND FOR ALL THE OTHERS, BEFORE AND AFTER THIS ONE,, ...
Happy birthday JMJ, celebrating by listening to this.
Whatever mr. Jarre plays he allways blows my mind...
👍😐
Risos.. Nunca saíra da minha mente.!
Jarre is... A master. I love his art.
i remember back i found thos cassett by accident. i used to listen to it all day n nite.. my only music . later i met a woman from france. i played this zoo look and found see loved this music also. what were the odds of meeting a girl from france who has this tape. im a black man she's white. love same music what odds. we fell in love. no joke.
Love has no boundaries.
1986 was the first time I've heard Jean-Michel Jarre and this album! It was such a good time... being young and free!!!
It's really superb isn't it? Somethings are a bit too complex for us to understand instantly, but once we get it, you love it so much more.
Lovely to read a comment like yours. Have a great day!
Thank you for the video .
Jean-Michel Jarre love ♥
2022. I still cant stop mimic all synth voices in this AMAZING album.
Fun note: If anyone has played StarCraft, you can ear several "protoss" SFX in Ethnicolor. ;)
God I love this freekin album!!
I love you, Jarre!!! Je t'aime, Jarre!!! σ 'αγαπώ, Jarre!!! Te amo, Jarre!!!
Me encanta este álbum. Como todo lo que crea JMJ❤
