Hoist the Colours by VoicePlay will blow your mind. Geoff, the bass, has a truly amazing version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. He has a 5 octave range. He has some great covers like Blackbird and 16 Tons.

They are incredibly gifted individually, but together are magic. Geoff Castellucci (the bass) has a 5 octave range, and on his own channel does all the vocals for his pieces. His God Rest Ye Gentlemen is completely EPIC!

Their more recent arrangements really show their growth. Geoff (the bass) has a 5 octave range. Eli (with the lead for most of it) has a beautiful rasp. The beat boxer (Layne) is so impressive and just not showcased in this one, his vocals are beautiful and shown in this one. I highly recommend Hoist the Colours and the Wicked Medley.

VoicePlay's arrangements tend to stand out a little from the other a cappella groups; possibly because they write their own arrangements. Layne Stein (vocal percussion) and Geoff Castellucci (bass) split about 99% of the arrangements between them, and while this is a lovely piece, it is nothing like what they are putting out currently. Their recent songs have been mindblowing, both in creativity of arrangement as well as execution. Their lineup has also changed (twice) since this particular video; this was (if I'm not mistaken) right after baritone Tony Wakim left the group, but before J. None joined them. J. None has now also left, and been replaced by Cesar De La Rosa, and before J. left, Earl (the group's high tenor) also departed for personal reasons. So they are currently down one permanent member, but not letting it slow them down in the slightest. Instead they bring in feature singers to round out their number, and always manage to blend in such a way that you'd think they'd been singing together for years.

Yay! You got to Voice Play! Now, after Christmas, hit their Hoist the Colours, If I Were a Rich Man, Friends on the Other Side, My Mother Told Me, Queen in 5 Minutes, Warriors.... you get the idea!

Thank you for including Voiceplay!!! Hoist the Colors is an amazing video to react to. Usually they have a solid five member group but recently had a couple guys leave. Their guest singers are always good too. Please, please continue to explore their catalog!

You didn't mention it so I don't know whether or not you noticed that the guy on the left and the guy on the right are the same guy. That's Geoff Castalucci and he's an absolute freak of nature. He literally has a 5 octave range. He has several videos out where he sings all the parts of the song himself. I mean there will be 3 or 4 of him on stage. Bare Necessities, The Monster Mash, The Headless Horseman, 16 Tons. You might want to check him out. He's great with VoicePlay but he's fantastic on his own too. And, it's interesting to note that Voice Play was on The Sing Off the same season as Home Free.

The bass is Geoff btw. His signature is a beautiful E1 but has a B0 in his repertoire. If you want to hear more of his range there are many options and he even has a solo channel where he harmonizes with himself beautifully.
Love what you’re doing, keep it up!

Glad to see you reacting to VoicePlay, Chris; hope you choose one of their “theatrical” songs next, where their beatboxer gets into it! They are great fun, on top of being a great a capella group. Will be interesting to see what you have for us on Christmas Day 🎄
Wishing you a very happy Christmas with your loved ones 🎄

This is one of their simplest arrangements, an acapella tutorial, made during a time they were one member short but still putting out some videos for their fans. They have way more complex and fuller sounding music nowadays 😎

  • @nikkibanning176
    @nikkibanning176 2 года назад +6

Oh you just have no idea how creative they are. The bass Geoff and baritone/beatboxer Layne do most of the arrangements. Eli (ellee) is the Tenor in the middle with the runs. They are known as the theatrical a cappella group of the three

VoicePlay are frequently more theatrial that this one, which sets them apart from Home Free and PTX. Their arrangements - usually done by Geoff (bass, with 5 octaves ) or Layne (vocal percussion). I think only one has been arranged by Eli (it rhymes with belly or jelly) he's the tenor in the centre here, and that was their cover of Eleanor Rigby - not often reacted to, incidentally, but it's beautful. Their harmonies are always beautiful and very creative. Try their Can't Help Falling in Love sometime. But for drama, Hoist the Colours, or Queen in Five Minutes :)

This isn’t very well known but they cover one of my favorite Disney songs, it’s from Anastasia called “Once Upon a December”. You should check it out, it was a beautiful haunting song to begin and they took and just went “yeah, let the professionals handle this”

This is actually a video in their partwork series, meant to help folks learn to sing acappella. They also made the arrangement available, I believe. So it's much more achievable than most of their "regular" stuff. This also had the beatboxer singing instead of doing vocal percussions.

Really enjoyed your reaction to Voiceplay. If you want to look at another one for Christmas, react to Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas or the First Noel. Or Geoff Castellucci's, the bass, solo (sort of) God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
After Christmas - VP - Hoist the Colours, Carry On Wayward Son, Go the Distance, Warriors Geoff - House of the Rising Sun, Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold, Sixteen Tons
    You won't be sorry, promise!

This is the first I’ve heard from this group. The bass is impressive (I have heard him before -he does all the harmonies with himself!). I’ll have to hear more, but I wasn’t feeling all the parts; some sounded “wrong” but always resolved beautifully. Loved your reaction, Chris, and I’ve really enjoyed coming “here” every evening to listen to your chosen songs. Thanks for doing this!

Just wanted to thank you because you have introduced me to these amazing singers that I never knew existed and have now fallen in love with. As I said in a previous comment, this Christmas is not one that I want to celebrate but every day I have looked forward to your video with the same kind of curiosity and excitement as I did as a child opening an advent calendar! (I am a 44yr old woman so definitely no longer a child! ) Even though I have known all the Christmas songs/ hymns, it has been such a joy and pleasure to hear these group's own interpretation of them which makes it completely unique and their own.
Sorry if I am sounding a bit gushing and O.T.T but it is because I honestly did not think that I would enjoy it as much as I have done, but that is the power of Music isn't it?! Actually with all the insanity that is going on in the world at the moment, Music, for a lot of people, just like a book, is a world that you can dive into and lose yourself for a while and forget all the pain and stress. I hope that, that makes sense and I am not just talking gibberish!
So once again thank you so much for your videos because they have really helped me so much, more than I can describe (I did try but I sounded even more like a lunatic than I already have done🤪🤪!!) I hope you and your family have a brilliant Christmas and let's hope that 2022 is a much better year (well let's be honest, it can't be any worse!!)
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE 🎄🎄🎄 AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎆🎆🎆 🥰🥰🥰💗💗💗🥰🥰🥰

VP and Home Free both came from Season 4 of The Sing-Off; where HF was Grand Winner and VP finished 5th. So they're all friends and even collaborate like Geoff Castellucci [VP bass] arranged ELVIRA for HF. Ciao!

I was hoping you would get them into the A Capella mix. Your are right. It is a shame that it is so late. Even though the Christmas rush is over, I don't think anyone would mind if you back tracked and reacted to a fan favorite, their version of "Oogie Boogie's Song" from the "Nightmare Before Christmas." It is not only 180 and degrees out from this traditional Carole, it shows their strengths both musically as well as strength theatrically!

This is great, but it came out in 2016, and they have come so much further in the last five years. If you don't have time to do a reaction video, at least do yourself the favor of listening to the song Geoff Castellucci dropped this season "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen." It's extraordinary.
