@@ZekZekaru The game design philosophy used to be a lot less mobile gamey; battle pass, login rewards, etc. Old systems are abandoned instead of iterated. There is this amazing story team and they are given 2 hours of gameplay and stuck telling the rest of their story with ingame mail and forum posts. Just not the kind of game that I can get lost in anymore.

I think class stories should make a return, they were the core of the game and gave a unique perspective on the galaxy for each one. This would allow us to have continuation of class romances or just seeing our companions interact with us more often, as well as their approval and disapproval on decisions.

I would quite like to have a neutral faction story line, and to be able to switch the allegiance of different characters between allegiances. I would like the story of my imperial agent beyond Corellia, but she can't follow the imperials after what they did to her, but she isn't keen on the republic either (I was put off from doing Ilum based on the opening dialogue being so pro-imperial). I think that bounty hunters and smugglers might also be enjoyed on a mission that wasn't wed to the republic or empire. This would allow for more nuanced roleplaying. The selection of story could happen through dialogue in the first couple of quests, that then branch into the three factions.

I liked how the gear system was before. You could play the game at your own pace and get high level gear and exchange gear currency to buy sets at the vendor. Now the top gear is back, locked behind harder content. I'am not a no lifer, so I don't have time to be scheduling raids like if it's another job. I wish they'd revert it back to how it was prior to the last expansion, I liked the command crates.

I really like the old school path through the flashpoints, I wish they had a guided mode that let you go through the old game up through Shadow of Revan as like a continuous campaign.
Appreciate the breakdown, I'll have to check it out again when that new Season happens. I do hope they find a way to revamp crafting, I like it a lot but the Cartel Coins invalidated lots of the armor and weapon crafting.

As a person who started playing in mid 2022, the answer is a yes for me. Couple things I like to note: it is a great single player experience doing the stories. The constant paywalls for almost every gd thing is frustrating as hell, vibrant RP community, no PVP community I can speak of just yet on my server, beautiful for it's age. 6.5/10. Solidly above average but far from perfect.

I only play this game because Star Wars and that if offers the most unique class stories I've ever played in MMOs. Been playing this game since 2013 with some smaller-bigger pauses. What I extremely don't like is the current insane inflation and that the game is like... quite easy. I would love to see more frequent balance changes, I liked the old system with gearable companions and that they had a specific role for their stories (like Doc to heal). This game has so much potential, there are so many things to add and I feel really sorry that the current players didn't experience the true difficulty of this game back some years ago. Doing a planet class story nowadays is 20-30 mins tops with easy checkpoint accesses and companion power. I remember when fighting Thanaton was very difficult, it felt like yeah, I'm fighting an actual Darth, not like today where they look like sprouts... I so want this game to thrive again!

I’m one of those new returning players, who last played a year after launch. I created three new characters that are at various points in their levels and stories. My take on it.
Leveling is a dream. Gearing is simple easy and understandable… until you hit 80. At which point you are left adrift with no idea where to go and what to do. Mod upgrades stop at 70. By 79 life is getting rough as the heroic boxes stop giving blue gear at 61, and you have to sit on the new ones until you hit KotFE. And you will easily hit 70 before that point. And then you hit 80… suddenly all my gear is obsolete by 50+ points. My upgrade options require conquest points to go buy a green starter set from the fleet. But I don’t have any Conquest thingies. It’s Wednesday, it’s my first 80, and my weekly Conquest completed last night. And doesn’t give the thingies until you’re 80. And with auto scaling pretty much everything will ass blast you in the gear you have. So you get to roll up another character to play for a few days.
Story is fantastic. On every class… until you hit KotFE/KotET. Which is just horrible for what it does to you as you spend night after nigh wading through a never ending tide of spawning sky troopers. Everything you’ve worked and played for taken away, Ie companions. You’re locked into a single player never ending story arc which will auto advance to the next chapter without giving you a chance to hit the vendors or anything. You walk into a room at your base to go turn something in and you’re zoned to another planet for yet another endless slog of sky troopers. The gameplay is no longer SWTOR. It’s God of War. The MMO is stripped out. It’s Tuesday, so finally I can get my gear and go back to that character and hopefully get past these two horrid sections and back to fun gameplay. And I know these are years old expansions. The problem is they still sit in the middle of a new or returning players progression arc, and will continue to be a jarring experience if not a point of new players walking away for years afterwards.
Some of the new systems are great. The new Combat Styles approach is fantastic. It allows for some real flexibility in play styles. If just because you can get stealth on any character, which makes life so much easier for solo players. (Except for KotFE, which ignores stealth completely).

I had played Swtor a tiny bit in the past but I just only now started playing for real and I must say I totally agree... I wish all MMOs were like this... focusing on story lines and immersion instead of just endless grinding for bullshit gear...
Another MMO that is like this and should get more love is Lotro (Lord of the Rings Online)... another old MMO but with deep LotR lore and very dedicated to preserving the Tolkien stories... yeah the graphics are old (getting a second overhaul this year though) but the a stories, the design of all the places in Middle Earth, the immersion and THE MUSIC (godly levels of music quality) are off the charts good... just a much more grindy game than Swtor since progressing through the regions means doing a shitload of quests in each one... but if you stop and read the texts and stories it becomes very immersive and good... if Lotro was voice acted like Swtor then it would be just unmatched...
Right now I'm hooked on Swtor though... it's just too good in terms of immersion and story telling... every story is more polished than those 250mil per movie trash we've recently seen (both the prequels and the Disney trash.... lol)

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I kinda wish they'd let Operations drop Cartel Market items, like for example Revan's armor or lightsaber in Temple of Sacrifice, the Zakuul Knight set in Gods of the Machine, or Mando sets and blasters in Dxuun. Maybe even CM mounts through certain achievements. Like I know the Oricon and R-4 raids drop the wing mounts, but it'd be nice to have a bit more incentives to Ops other than gearing up and the occasional Stronghold decos.
One thing I love about WoW (which I shifted to after GS 2) is transmog hunting in raids. It felt like to me that while you get earn your mog sets and mounts in WoW through raids and achievements, in SWTOR you kinda have to get them through currency or the GTN. I know it might upset some folks who spent lots of actual cash on the CM, but it could definitely up the raiding scene.

The new (now old) companion changes and the following expansions were a bit of a let down IF you had multiple chars.. but the game still hangs around in the back of my mind like no other. I enjoyed both solo & group content & miss them both like no other game. All Tanks are balanced, the skill curve with current Assassin Tank is a little bit higher since the stat distribution with current gear doesn't provide enought stats for Assassin tanks to be at the optimal stat level compared to the other 2 so you need to be more aware of spike damage in higher tier of content and how to properly mitigate it.
DPS, Powetech, Sniper, Sorcerer, Marauder and Juggernaut
Healers will perform the same just that Operative will outpeform the other 2 when the group is stacked for AoE heals but outside of that they all perform at the same level.

Swtor is one of my favorite games of all time. I liked the story but the main reason I loved the game was the community when I played. I gained so many friends and it was so fun to log on and play with them every day. Eventually I got into raiding and I tried getting into the hard content. Eventually I learned the best raiders can be extremely toxic and just cast you away if you are not godly. I left the game when most of my friends stop playing.
A year later I played the game again and joined a raid team almost immediately. That team lasted for an entire year that was the best raid team I had but eventually the team collapsed and I left the game again.
Then recently I started playing the game again in 7.0. One of my friends rejoined the game and that was the main reason but eventually I learned about the new gearing system. I absolutely hated it. This gearing system is not as bad as the beginning of 5.0 but the grind is just terrible and I hated that you were forced to only play one form of content to level up. In the end I just quit.
At this point I don’t like the state of the game. None of my friends play it. Lots of them refuse to play it and content team is just abysmal. I honestly not sure if I ever will play the game again.
What I want most is new Star Wars MMORPG but am afraid there are no plans from Disney as of yet. I just miss most the excitement for game and the community to play with.

I checked the list and all I saw were ear implants which is fine, but you can only wear two of them and the options / bonuses were under whelming. Is there any other legendary gear set about to come out or just literal implants? I thought the hole reason removing item set bonuses so you can get full bonus without having to have 2/4/6 pieces, and you can start mix and matching them. The list of set bonuses I read were kinda useless, like 10 % damage on various ability use, or 20% critical damage after various ability use, 3% damage reduction etc. It kinda put me off playing.

After the many years I play the game, I still do. I really love the game and it is one of the only MMORPGs that keep this loving fire alive in me. The changes with battle styles wasn't a big of a deal for me, just getting used to it, but by now it is fine xD
I also honestly loved the story of the Legacy of the sith. Yes, it was short, but many story updates will happen and it will be free for those who unlocked Legacy Of The Sith. So technically there is way more story, but just not out yet.

That’s for every MMO out there tbh, MMO’s are all about having a healthy player base and what content is being offered. People are constantly looking to join in or join back into them, specially with expansion announcements/releases. I know this because even though my main game is WoW, I’m occasionally looking to try other MMO’s and being doing so; trying SWTOR, FF14 and GW2 while waiting on the next WoW xpac.

I came back to the game recently and played it for about two months. Enough time to play through the stories and expansions twice fully, on both Republic and Imp characters. I think I also played through the class story quests on several classes as well, I know I did merc, imp agent and jedi consular all to 50. By the time I finished that and checked out the current content the game had, I was done. There's just not enough at end-game to retain me anymore compared to mmos like FF XIV or WoW and frankly, SWTOR's age is showing much more in it's actual gameplay loop compared to the competition and this is especially apparent in the combat feeling clunky, dated, same'y.
I remember being excited because one of the recent patches for Legacy of the Sith was coming out while I was playing, and it was sort of billed as a major patch including more main-story content for the expansion. It was like 2 missions or something, which I finished in 10 minutes, and some dailies, or something like that I can't remember specifically. Pretty bare bones, remember feeling pretty disappointed. Turned off my auto-sub, uninstalled and got back into FF XIV the next week. For the record, I've been a MASSIVE Star Wars nerd my entire life. Just as an example, I have multiple custom lightsabers that ran me nearly $1000 a piece lol. If there's anything that could make me overlook flaws in a game, it'd be because it's Star Wars... so that's definitely not the issue.
These "Is SWTOR worth playing in 202x" videos come out so often. It's glaringly obvious that this game doesn't have nearly the budget it once had, or the development team behind it that it had before, like for KOTFE. The KOTFE expansion feels like it was made by an entirely different team, with a massive budget compared to everything else. I remember experiencing KOTFE for the first time and having high hopes because it definitely felt like the stage got bigger, it felt polished, the story was long as hell comparatively speaking, it just felt like it had a lot of budget behind it. Everything since then has felt like the bare minimum, and at this point I don't think bioware is ever going to go back to producing content on the same level as KOTFE. I don't think they have the resources or the man power to do it.

Actually nowadays there is no excuse for an MMO not being voice acted... and yes, ESO having the best voice acting cast in the world and no voice for your character is a RETARDED choice by zenimax...
Swtor and GW2 where your character is voice acted are so immersive. And Swtor even more since your character has a compelling story and is not the almighty demi-god hero that everyone else is completely incompetent if not for you.
Imo, the two most immersive MMOs I've ever played are Swtor (which is recently started playing regularly btw) and Lotro (Lord of the Rings Online). However Lotro needs a lot of reading of quest texts, but the environment, music and detail of artstyle of middle earth are off the charts immersive.
I've been really loving my short time with Swtor... stories are just so much fun and so well written... even the trooper story which everyone hates is 10 times better than most MMO storylines...

Swtor Founder here. I have to be brutally honest in saying the game is currently in its worst state ever, and I have little hope for the future because the team working on it is so small. It is still a GREAT Star Wars game, for sure. New players have LOADS of content to go through, and it's one of the BEST Star Wars media immersion vehicles. But for a long term player who has 'done it all', the ONLY thing keeping me in this game is gearing up in R-4. Once I get 340 on tank, healer and DPS, and complete the R-4 achieves, I really can't see myself playing. The insane gearing system regression has gutted most of the PvE content in the game, and relegated maybe the top 5% of the playerbase (who can actually form up for the stupidly tuned new raid) to be able to get past 331 item rating. Seriously, for a game that was obviously low on staff, 6.0 expansion/gearing was perfect. The ONLY benefit in 7.0, IMO, is combat styles. Everything else has been nerfed or is a regression.

    • @rhysthomas2876
      @rhysthomas2876 2 года назад +3

The BEST thing the devs can do in a future update is to allow players to earn up to 340 gear from ALL game activities, not just the buggy AF new raid. Unless you are a PvPer that plays just for that, there is literally no point in doing any PvE content for gear. PvP only allows you to get 328 gear. All PvE content rewards 330, so gamers will obviously do the fastest and most lucrative content, which is SM Ops. There is no incentive to do legacy Ops, MM FPs, GSF/PvP (unless you like it) because there is no reward. Daily quests now feel like a chore because of the new currency system. It's just a total mess. It's even causing derision in raid teams and exposing people to the toxic high-end PvE Empire players (you know who you are! "omg who plays Republic?!" kind of people). Troomis summed it up perfectly below tbh

One issue that I have had is that I rushed through (lots of skipping cutscenes) the story for my single character I have - a Sith Inquisitor/Sorcerer.
I planned on returning to the game next week, but one thing I want to do is get a chance to go back and re-do all of those old quests.
    - Is this even possible?? Is it possible for me to be a max level character that has already played through the first 2 or 3 expansions to go back and re-do all of it?
    - If it is possible, would it even be worth it? Would I just be better off making a new character?

I'm a big SW head and I've enjoyed the game as a free player back in 2012/13, but I just can't see myself paying over and over for the same game.

Honestly don't see the big deal in that. It's 15 dollars dude. Even a homeless person can make that in 1 hr. I only really spend $12 for RUclips premium, and recently came back, so yes I have to pay another $15. Honestly, for the insane amount of content it offers, its so worth it. I'm sure you make way more than $15 from your job, I would reconsider.

after ruining classes and gearing and making the story super short i say the 7.0 expantion was a overall failure i know it brough new and nice things but not close to the lv it ruined core part of the game 7.1 brough back modding but still said this whole expnation feel like a huge f you to the main and core player base of swtor the casual/solo player.

They pretty much made a catch up system, 330 is way easier to get than when 7.0 released, sure it's still a bit grindy but not anything near how grindy it was before. If you are a casual player 330 is all you really need, wait for the next catch up system for 340. You'd really only need 340 for the hardest content but you can do everything in 330 gear if you have the right set up/team.

If your casual you can only get 330 blue, which isn't really that much better than 328 Purple. Everything else Is locked behind a paywall of content called Operations, that only a small majority enjoy playing. 6.0 gearing was, and is better in just about every way.

What about the daily areas, like section X, Oricon, Yavin, and etc.? I've noticed those areas are way more challenging then they use to be. Almost not worth it to do the dailies due to being tedious to kill the mobs and bosses in them. In other words no longer fun.

I cannot fathom how they'll pull this game out of the shitter after 7.0. They'd have to do a 180 on more than half the changes they made just to even start improving. I honestly have no hope left for my favorite MMO that I played off and on for most of my adult life.

They keep adding so much content, years worth. It is daunting and overwhelming and honestly is one of the reasons I have not yet returned.

I came in on launch, went for about 8 months, and would come back about a month a year afterward. Haven't done that in a few years because there's been pretty much nothing new for years. Also, deleting a bunch of individual class abilities so you could have a character that could be 2 classes but not use both at the same time nor switch between them in the same mission... W.T.F......

They'll never find a perfect balance for all players. I mainly play solo for the story. I just started a new character and I'm at level 40 and just on my second planet. Granted, this comes from leaning more toward being a player of BioWare RPGs, where completing quests is the way to level a player. The problem is that even though I feel compelled to do so, I get robbed of the payoff. I've hustled for 3 days to hit level 40, but my stats are scaled down to compensate for lower-level players on a prologue planet. I understand that the game takes the opposite approach to flashpoints, and scales the stats of lower-level players up. That's fine.
Wouldn't it make more sense just to let the level of players and their gear be what they are? Granted, it would make it an uphill battle out of the gate, but if such was the case, it would encourage players at low levels to seek out the assistance of higher-level players, while still allowing everyone to enjoy the level and gear they work for. As is, player level and gear seem to mean little until a player completes the story and is just going PVP for the sake of it.
