It’s a show. It’s fun. In reality, IB is a glorified excel and PowerPoint position for the first year or so. You never face the client on a multi-billion dollar deal or fight against other bidders or brokers like you see in other shows lol. Just hours and hours of updating a few variables in excel and summarizing it in ppt and word. Repeat. I work for a distressed arb fund in NYC.
I really love the way you break down the show and combine your observation and the real working situation, especially those details that I, as an outsider, won't pay attention to. You make me wanna watch the show. Looking forward to your reaction video to EP2!
Good video. thank you. The line I cant get over - "mediocrity is too well hidden by parents who hire private tutors" It fits the script that she would say that clearly exposing the chip on her shoulder. You wont find a professional athlete in the world that didnt have a coach, trainer, tutor that took that talent and honed it to another level. Speaking coaches that help professional speakers and Presidents, acting coaches that have guided the careers of every actor that has ever won an award. Even ceo's have boards of directors. A naive statement yes but filled with a lot - exposing her weakness.
just speaking from where she's coming from and as someone who can relate to that similar background I didn't have a tutor and was at the top of my class and that should be looked at a little bit differently..it doesn't mean a person got a chip on their shoulder to speak truth ... In the show I saw nothing from her character to signal she had a chip ....coaching is completely different than having a tutor in some kind of ways but the ones who do have coaches/ tutors will be looked at as if they got there all by their self just like the person who didn't have a tutor and didn't have a coach which can still hide real mediocrity indeed , there is truth there and to project vs take that in shows a chip on those who have a hard time accepting this notion .... so you might want to recalibrate your thought process on this to fit what was really being said....

Such a lovely clip Angela...thanks. I just started watching "Industry" 2 night ago, it's addictive! You forgot to mention Hari was bingeing on energy drinks and stimulant pills (+ his pre-existing heart condition).
Hey Angela, I was wondering what career paths you considered as a backup to investment banking during your undergrad? Big 4, Corp Fin, etc? I'm very interested in IB but I figure it's smart to have a backup plan.
What do you think is the best way to get into private equity instead of doing investment banking or consulting. And is it actually extremely hard to get into these firms? Thanks.
@@angelasunx3 I am currently in high school and looking into how to proceed this career then later get into private equity . Do you think the best option is to get my bachelor degree in finance then later move on to get a MBA or get my bachelor degree and straight into IB. Sorry if this a lot to ask, I am just very intrigued in this type of field.
This sounds like a nightmare. Work until 10 pm?! Does this even worth it? I know investment bankers are paid a lot but when you calculate it down to an hour is almost minimum wage. So my question is .... why?
It's the idea of delayed gratification - sacrificing your 20s/30s to make much more later on in life with better hours, but most still move on to different jobs after ~2 years
Angela, thank you for making these videos. I’m always curious about investment bankers and why they love the office instead of trading/investing their own money. Is it honestly about having the contacts and networks over actually the trade?
Amazing video! So much of this is also accurately depicted in a really good book, "Liquidated" by Karen Ho, which I enjoyed very much. Thanks for sharing your views on the investment banking world!
Hi, is Daria at Pierpoint a senior VP or executive director? She clearly has more authority than line VPs like Kenny and Clement. She was part of the committee comprised of senior management making the hiring decisions. This seemed unusual for a mid-level line manager like Daria, unless I missed something and she is really an executive director.
@@angelasunx3 So is the show inaccurate in her role sitting in on hiring decisions on the interns and her firing Clement? The other VPs had no such authority.
Why do they bring juniors to client meetings if all it's expected is for juniors to sit there and be quiet? isn't it awkward for everyone in the room that there's a person there just not speaking?
But Greg (the VP) and Harper (new grad analyst) were such a hot couple 🥰. It is so hard to not root for the Grads. Hari was gone too soon and where will Gus go now?! Ugh I love the show.
