*By way of a disclaimer, I was only given pre-embargo assets of the 992.2 around four hours before the car was revealed to the general public. That give me just 240 minutes to plan, shoot, edit and upload this video, all while battling serious man flu! So, I apologise if this isn't my best work, or there are any errors made. All facts are presented in good faith.

Imagine the cost of a hybrid turbo, out of warranty 😮…
Clever though
Makes me like my 996 C4S even more
As a 992.1 owner, I couldn't be happier about my model. It still retains that analog tach and the twist key ignition, and still has a simple flat-six engine. I'm sure the 992.2 generation will be just as great, as Porsche products are just that good. But I'll keep mine for the foreseeable future.
Not a fan of ditching the manual transmission, analog gauges and true car key. Looks like '24 and below will be the ones I'll be shopping for.
Think I still prefer the 997 or 991.1 with a clutch pedal.
As a 997 owner I will agree! I don't think it's superior really but it's damn fun to drive as a 6 speed manual!
991.1 manual os not good. I owned one.
997 👍
The best modern 911.
There are so bargains to be had snapping up the last of the Gen 1 992.
Great video Lee. TBH I'm not sold, I'll stick with my 986 :)
I bet they got rid of the rear seats as standard so they could report a minimized weight increase and keep it under the 1600 kg by 5 kg. I bet the seats weigh slightly more than 5 kg.
Bingo.
You got it and they included the crappy light weight glass as well. All to lie about the actual weight gains.
Ace stuff Lee. Interesting changes that will no doubt split opinion. Hope the man flu gets better 👍👍
With the huge jump in performance of the 992.2 GTS, it’s really a cheaper 992.1 Turbo, rather than a more expensive 992.1 GTS. At this moment in time the Carrera S is pretty academic, as you can spec the GTS with S wheels and a full leather interior.
Couldn’t said it better!
Thanks for the vid. I’m too quite optimistic about there being an S, mainly because again, as with 992.1 base Carrera, the 992.2 base doesn’t have a limited slip diff. Which, without on S in the line up, would mean the only way to get this almost necessary piece of tech would mean having to get a GTS variant. Now they’ve given the 992.1 GTS turbos to the new base, it’ll be interesting what they do to bump up the power on an in coming S. Maybe a milder hybrid than the GTS?! 🤔
Just configured a “shade green metallic” GTS with Herritage interior, aero pack and tilt and slide sunroof. A truly great looking car.
The exhaust note should sound amazing without a turbo in the loop. Can't wait to hear what an aftermarket tuba upgrade will sound like. Bit like the NA 4.0 motors.
Great headlines on the new models……thx
They launched the car without rear seats so they could reduce the weight on paper & offset some of the hybrid weight gain.
That's smart and sneaky 👍
That gas routing is quite wild! The ex tubing from bank 1-3 is totally different to the short 4-6 bank tubing. Ths means there is going to be quite a lot of pulsation to the turbine beacuse the 4-6 gases are going to be somewhat hotter and speedier. Mass flows are equal but the 1-3 bank gases have given out some heat energy. I wonder if if pulsation damping is used for regeneration - it is a theoretical possibility. Anyway, once again there is going to be quite a lot of heat underneath and at the back of the engine. I hope they have heat shielded the sump.
Vertical Slats on the front are hideous. We will see if you can get a manual. Price of Turbo's will be insane. It's starting to make the new Aston Vantage look like a bargain.
I actually LIKE the vertical slats, I can’t get over the loss of the rev counter though. The broader tyres are great too, as are the new HD matrix lights. I configured one already, £169k including VAT for an Irish Green GTS. May well put down deposit but CRAZY ASKING PRICES TBH
@@danielberry1635
£169 k GTS
There on another planet 🌍.
Sorry but that robbery
Vantage is only a bargain 5 years preowned
Stop claiming nonsense, dude!
Aston Martin Vantage prices are astronomically higher than 992.2 911 prices.
The 992.2 911 now has much more things in its base configuration, which where only options in its predecessor.
Of course Porsche charges much more for all these things in the new 911.
Now it's a much quicker and better sportscar than before. Also the active engine mounts are new in the new 911, it has 60 PS more and is 0.4 seconds quicker from 0-100kph/0-60mph. This is worth the higher price, if you ask me.
If you think Aston Martin would be a better deal.... Good for you. Then you are a naive trashtalker, dude!
@@Porsche1969 You clearly don’t know what the new Vantage costs dude, as it is squarely in line with a GTS today. They cleaned up the few design issues on the outside and completely fixed their interior issues. The car is built as a GT car, not a sports car and traditionally loses value more than a 911. I don’t see that changing anytime soon, but I do see them focusing on the needs of the driver. The car sounds better, is designed for the driver to have fun, and I’ll bet will soon get a manual to go after the 911 crowd if Porsche moves away from a manual. If you just drink the Porsche Kool-Aid, then you be you. I evaluate as fairly as I can and see the good and bad in all cars. The reality is the GTS is now going to cost over $200K which is lightly used Lambo/McLaren pricing. I’ve had 911’s for over 20 years, so I think I know them well enough. Currently own a 2018 991.2 Turbo, Dude. A 992.2 TurboS is going to be over $300K for a nicely configured car and that will have lots of folks looking at other brands at that point. 911’s were the affordable sports car and it’s now being pushed upmarket. Fine. They are awesome, but not perfect and they are not the only car in this segment. ’ll look at all the cars in that market, but you keep sucking down the Kool-Aid and think that every move Porsche makes is gold. Dude! My only comment was that the front was bad, and it is to me, and that costs are escalating, and they are. I was neither trash talking nor naive, dude!
Complications, complications, complications!
I guess it gives people something to talk about! Who needs this sort of performance?
🙄 I just need simple analogue driving!
Well done, hope you feel better soon. Cheers!
Where can you get the t-shirt, it is very good. I like the new car but I'm very happy with my 992.1 GTS tbh.
The reason the rear seats are optional is to lower the base weight, since standard is without. Lame trick.
Also, I sat my kids in the back for 3 years in a 991 cab and 3 years in a 997 coupe. So people DEFINITELY use them. Wouldn’t trade those years for anything.
To my knowledge the 9A2 engines were derived from the 9A1 and a 3.4 with a longer stroke crankshaft in the same engine cases became a 3.6. With a different set of engine cases, to allow the bore increase, and the same crankshaft as the 3.4 the 3.8 was created. The 3.8 with the 3.6 crankshaft created the 4.0 in the 9A1 series. The electrification of the turbocharger was a good move and we will see how the new 911's work out. Will the GT3 retain the 4.0 ?
Yes the 4.0 will remain
Hard job for this man looking exited about this downgraded 911, not excited about any of the new changes, the digital tachometer looks terrible, not a manual, welcome to the new Panamera coupe
Glad to have my Racing Yellow 992.1 Carrera T with Manual tranny!
The next Generation GT2RS will be out
In 2026 . Porsche 911 GT2 RS Will Be A Hybrid Supercar With 700+ HP: Report; It'll be the quickest and most powerful 911 ever. GT2 RS is set to adopt a mild-hybrid powertrain with technology derived from the new 963 LMDh endurance race car. It'll trickle down the range closer to the end of the decade, with an electric motor supplementing the internal combustion engine.
So we get the "hybrid"... which is not any faster or better than the predecessor. Just more prone to be expensive to own. Got it. Soooo.... why???
Loving my cheap 996.2 all the more after watching this.
It is way faster. I believe it is 0.4 seconds faster to 60 mph. It also lapped Nuremberg about 8 seconds quicker. This thing is about as quick as the previous 911 Turbo
I believe the GTS won't be having a manual version due to the hybridisation, which is a shame as the manual GTS has been the pick of the non gt range since it's inception om 997.2. The Carrera should get a manual. I believe the Carrera S wasn't launched 1st as they wanted the hybrid model to get the headlines, as GTS is the top carrera model it makes sense that it gets the added hybrid power, I guess the s will come later.
There will most certainly be a Carrera S, hopefully with the option for a manual gearbox. My guess is the S has the HP of the outgoing GTS, or about 470 HP. That would be smack in the middle of the base Carrera’s 400 and the new GTS’s 540.
991.2 GT3 manual is now the bargain of the entire range, biggest bang for your buck.
I like it, thanks Lee
We see with the GTS a new concept of a 911 with supercar performance. I am absolutely convinced it is stunning to drive and you don’t feel anything artificial from the electric supported drivetrain. But maybe there is already too much technology in these cars. I would always prefer a lighter car with a GT3 Engine. The really small design changes are not all for the good, so all 992.1 owners can be quite happy. I think they should have also welcomed the standard Carrera to the 400hp club.
Nice Video of info Lee, no S yet, i cant see it going away, the HP difference between the base and the GTS is huge, so i think there is plenty of room for a model in between, who knows whether it will be a boosted 3 litre or a detuned hybrid.. and where the manual transmission will enter the market, good stuff ... i like it.
The push button start doesn’t even look good! It’s an after thought
Great info and great car .
You’re on it with the news ! Great brand knowledge as usual.
Porsche have really moved on the purists/ fanatics are simply not there Market anymore 😢
What are those chesticles/sensors/speakers underneath the front license plate?
No manual??? Looks like I’m keeping my 991.2 GTS
It’s an impressively complicated thing, now. Base spec with manual order book will be massively oversubscribed once available.
Beautiful video.
The GTS was always my favorite Porsche it was the everyday AWD driver that was faster than the GT3 in a straight line that GTS will be missed.🧠🤯🔫
More things just to go wrong over a period of time.
i appreciate my 997.2 more as i see the new models, bulkier, digital clusters and now hybrid, pass tyvm
NO ONE sits in the rear. Kudos!
They have said no manual GTS. Not happening. In Australia a lightly specified 992.2 Carrera is $331k on the road. That's $172k sterling. Madness.
If you cropped a photo of that “push to start” button and asked me what car it was, I would reply “every new car in the world” In my opinion, Porsche killed an iconic feature. Secondly , I may get used to the vertical flaps on the front, though it feels like a Mercedes GT wanna be grille.
It’s hard to get excited about 911s anymore knowing that, even as a Porsche owner, I won’t be able to get one for years without getting absolutely gouged with dealer markups. The cars are literally unattainable so what’s the point in getting into them?
Why am I feeling underwhelmed and unimpressed?
Heard a rumour Porsche is working on modern version of the 928………….just kidding, would be interesting to see what might look like.
Closest thing would be a Panamera Coupe which was originally planned for the recent Panamera update but was cancelled in 2020
@@7ludi Ah that's a shame, a Panamera coupe would have been cool.
From the drawings I saw this 911 hybrid can't be made with manual gearbox. It's an all-in-one design. With electrification (and fantasy pricing) Porsche might go out of business in 2025 like Jaguar and Volvo...
I don't like the styling below the bumper. Preferred the previous version.
Front looks awful. My 992.1GTS aero has become a keeper.
Oh dear, more digital dash, and still the braun shaver gear stick..😒
..and a plastic start button that looks like the one in literally every other car. Horrible.
❤❤❤❤❤
Even worse than I thought it would be... No manual, no proper tach, 60kgs weight, push button start... e turbo. Ugly as hell too.
Same… also why would you don’t implement a proper hybrid system that gives you the benefits of electric cars in a sports car package…? Also did you hear the sound? The channel Autogefühl showed a clip of the GTS revving while stand still, it sounds atrocious… diesel truck like…
Just learned that that weight is with no rear seats... so it's in fact 60 Kg heavier
And you still cant afford one
@@edjohn4590 Actually I own 3 992. And a 4th coming end of year.
@@billnorblat4047
Why own so many.
I’m interested to know..
4 polarizing points, front vertical fish gills, semi fake trickle fickle pipes, no analogue taco .....&... no manual quick stick ??
Will they offer a manual GTS ?
No there is a electric motor in the PDK so hybride means automatic gearbox
Love the all digital dash!! About time.
60kgs. Not 50. They took the rear seats out.
Digital dash and start button are downgrades. Rear seats are part of the 911 DNA and make it unique amongst premium sports cars.
Any word on pricing?
Did you even watch the video? 8:13
@@foxx1111lol
Dust caps would be 4 times that
You can configure and price online
Did you get to the bottom of your 996 probs
My 996 40th anniversary edition is looking like an even better purchase than i already thought.
This generation makes me so sad. Theres no porsches anymore.
It's ok
I imagine its going to be seriously quick car.. and boring in equal measure.
More tech, more fat. Hard pass.
If there's no GTS manual , there's no chance of an S with one.
all these 911 variants have been created to squeeze all possible revenue from the buyers at various price points; a little extra performance here and there etc etc for the extra money and bragging right. But with the proliferation of EV performance of late, all these sub-GT variants are basically laughing stock against the competitions. As for the top models a la the RS, the value for performance is also a joke. Porsche simply can't sell speed anymore.
Yet people still buy Porsche.
Booooooo.
So underwhelming. 997 was peak water-cooled. Its been going South ever since.
Agreed like how can you top the 997 rs models even the gts was crazy like yeah the rs models since have been great but nothing like 997 but I love the ST it’s just great basically a manual 3 rs with no wing reminds me of a 997
I think there is NO POINT in a Carrera S anymore. I think they should just bin the model
if the 718 got electric turbo charger it would be a worthy update
WOW that has to be the lamest engine start button ever! Look at a Honda civic type R start button. ruclips.net/video/XexabIixHME/видео.htmlsi=nGP8YaBJSQXDtSaY&t=487 They should have given us a high-revving NA engine with hybrid assist. I see no upside to this car, it is very un-emotive. Compared to what Mercedes, BMW, KIA do with the digital displays for their performance car, the Porsche is just plain boring. They need to move away from pure performance gains for the non-GT cars and look at making owning a new 911 a more emotionally enticing experience. They still haven't fixed the ugly nail clipper wing, and now they added ugly ring daytime running lights to the car. Most of the videos/shots released are with the upgraded headlights. Thanks for the video, got some useful additional information!
