Funny as fuck the call outs mate. Agreed with the lighter kit, bare basics. Your right about the blizzard bag, packs away great, reflects heat great, cost a few Bob and you get damp with condensation. I've done a few vids with my failures too, learn a lot from them so nice one there. Malt loaf..... you slag
I like to use a clothes peg with 2 drawing pins that close an electric circuit when a trip wire pulls out a piece of plastic. That way it opens up many possibilities as to what kind of signal will be set off. Such as a bird whistle from an mp3 player, pyro, or "something else"
Great video Shovelrecce, I'm fast approaching 57 now, So gone are my days of yomping 30milers in belt kit/ CEMO and weapon. Even if my mind still thinks it can lol, the body says No. So definitely a lightweight pack with JUST the essentials would be the order of the day ( but as I have a family nowadays as most of us old sweats have ) probably staying put and defending what I got come hell or high water. Anyway back to the vid, back in the day, i would never go anywhere without 4 pints on my belt, and another 2 pints in my bergen. That's 3 litres for all you metric warriors out there. I'm old skool 82/85 lbs and pints not kilos n litres back then. And we use to buy our own Smocks too. (We only got issued the RM windproof when doing our Artic warfare training don't remember em being standard issue back then thou ? But might be wrong 🤔) we were still issued 58 pattern webbing. As pre PLCE days ,maybe with the odd 44 wb pouch here and there and if SOPs allowed maybe a sneaky ALICE pouch ( supplemented with private purchase bergaus Roc, instead of that stupid 58 back pack 🙄) I Think it was survival aids that made gabardine dpm sas smocks popular back in the 80s ( post Falklands conflict) . Those in the know got theirs from SASS sadly long gone now. But 1000 x's better then the dpm 68 jacket we all got issued then. And as for bergen contents, One thing that always makes me laugh when I watch some of these bugout videos on youtube.people are packing 6 knives, 3000 rounds, 2 Mars bars, complete medic trauma kit and full NBC kit, but not one of em ever mentions spare socks and foo foo powder. Obviously they've never hoofed anywhere in wet socks. Ain't no one getting out of Dodge with blisters carrying 100lb plus on their backs without proper foot care, and that's a fact. No need to apologise with any rant mate, we all need to blow off a little steam now and again, besides as we call it its constructive criticism and that's how people learn.( Hopefully you'd like to think lol ) Last thing, I was wondering with the trip wire alarm, could the pin of been out just a little too far ? And caused not enough spring in the detonator lever ? I need to go back and watch that part again as my Mrs was talking ( as they do !) So sorry if you worked out what the problem was. Anyway apologies for a long winded comment. Us old boys do tend to waffle lol Stay safe fella. ATB Rob 👍
grumpy old bugger ... but you are not wrong ... things were simpler back in the day, i remember looking at the US army 7 layer clothing system and wondering ... WTF
Never seen your channel before just came across it by accident. But this video made me laugh & makes sense so thats why ive subbed to your channel. Good video
Saw a video about lightweight wash bags. One was nearly fifty quid and literally it was just a pencil case that you can get at Poundland for a quid. It’s ridiculous.
Great and enthusiastic rant mate, always good to hear your thoughts based on experience. I also prefer the simplicity of the BCB, basha, bivi and patrol pack every time. Great to see you out doing drills. Atb. Harry
Hi Shovel, very good video and I appreciate your common sense discussion on kit and agree, UK military kit is bomb proof. I managed to get a Survivor 58 a couple of weeks ago, they advertise and state they will sell to the general public, if they have a some spare left over from a large contract. I asked if they had any spare because I will be doing a long distance walk in Scotland. They were excellent and sent 1 to me, couldn't fault their customer service. Look forward to the next video. ATB!
Train. Take care of your feet. Stay hydrated. Keep your kit dry.
Truer words haven’t been spoken friend.
