      I'm so sick of this argument. The past era wasn't physical, it was dirty. When you watch Jordan against the bad boy Pistons. They aren't playing defense. Throwing elbows isn't physical play. It's just dirty basketball. Most of the defensive guys from that era wouldn't make a roster today. Cause they'd have to play actual defense.

MJ never disappeared or choked, he lost series or had failures before becoming the success we know him to be but that is what separates him from everyone else and makes him the undisputed 🐐. The thing I don't understand is why people think old players wouldn't just improve their physiques with modern training regimens and improve their skills like everybody else. Lebron came in 2003 in the "old" era with low scores tougher defense and at the time he had NO left and NO 3 point shot and look how much he improved. i would like someone to explain to me why exactly Jordan/Hakeem/Robinson/Malone wouldn't be great 3 point shooters given how great their long midrange form is or why guys like Tim Hardaway, Penny, GP and them couldn't tighten up their handles like Kyrie Dame and Harden? The eras are not as separated as people think - 40 y/o MJ with no knees and 19 y/o Bron both averaged the same points in the exact same era one season apart. Iverson played against Westbrook. KG played against AD Jokic and Giannis. You all act like younger players have this magical better ability to adapt and learn new skills that older players don't

    • @StephTerry-c2y
      @StephTerry-c2y 2 месяца назад

      exactly!! They wouldn't have just stayed the same, they would have adapted. Jordan could shoot...he chose not to because that wasn't his game. He averaged 30 for his career doing it his way...If he had to he would have developed a 3, Same a magic did with his jump shot, as well as Jason Kidd. Like you said Lebron developed a 3 point shot. Hence why the most dominate big men, in NBA history, played during that time period. Today, it's mainly three point shooting, isolation, PnR, with less physicality. Hence why players can average 30 PPG more often now, since they are living at the free throw line or jacking up threes all game. I don't understand why people continue to overlook this.

Like, the gap between a group of guys like Duncan, Shaq, Lebron, Kobe, and KG have in league with Nash, Ray Allen, AI, and them guys is much greater than the gap that a group like Luka, Jokic, Embiid, Shai, and Ant have with their respective contemporaries. Brian Windhorst explained it perfectly, its a dumd argument to make yourself feel better.
    If your only argument is physical people are only soft because the game is soft, if the game is physical people would be physical.
    All generations can play with each other, the league was harder back then because it was more physical but its equally as hard now because players are more talented.
    But just like Lebron, Chris Paul, KD, Russ played since 03/08 when the league was physical and still playing today because the adapted others would as well.
    AI said once he would average 40 today, no he would not because the modern day version of AI is Kyrie. Its just something to make yourself feel good.

    Modern day Olympics shows that old school 90s/2000s players are better. Best player in World is Jokic, Team Serbia and more are better than Team USA as the world plays physical 90s basketball with mostly unknowns except Jokic and a few stars in Olympics. Curry bailed Team USA out otherwise everyone knows USA would have lost. Ant did nothing against random Serbia men.

    Most big guys today can't play with their back-to-the-basket. That physicality came with skills. If KG, who played like that, doesn't see that today, he's right. There are two big guys that can do it well in the whole association. None of these guys today can stop the greatest athlete to ever play in the NBA, Wilt Chamberlain. He ran a 4.6 40-yard dash at 7’ tall. He was a fast, high-jumping powerhouse (maybe the strongest in league history, ask Arnold) with great endurance. That was his athletic ability to be paired with basketball skills. That unstoppable turnaround fadeaway associated with “The Big Fundamental” Tim Duncan, you watch highlights of Wilt doing it. His athletic ability, physicality, and skill would be too much for big guys today. He would probably be as dominant today as he was in the 60s. I don't know about the '90s (Ewing, Mourning, Robinson, The Dream, and Shaq), but today, for sure. Remember, he got a lot of easy baskets by beating the other team’s center down the court. In a less physical game like today's, I don't know what stops him or slows him down.

    The bottom line is that each era plays the way that the rules dictate that it be played. The players of today are not more athletic than players of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. It’s just that the rules have changed so that “freedom of movement” allows players to better showcase their athleticism. Three point shooting and floor spacing is emphasized so that is how teams play. The downside is that players, for the most part, don’t have an elite mid range game or low post game anymore. The art of interior passing has fallen by the wayside and players do not run the fast break like they used to.
