I appreciate all you Cherry Tomato Boys for watching! If you want to see more reviews/analysis I’ve done, be sure to check out my main channel youtube.com/@FanOfFilms
Bro, I was going to the Getty museum in LA on Sunday to see the William Blake exhibit for the second time before it was closing, my girl spotted Nathan in line, while she went to the bathroom I went up to him and I told him that the finale was one of the best things I ever seen on TV hands down, and I shook his hand, and he told me totally deadpan, like with the inflection when he's at his most monotone "wow thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you very much," LMAO
Nathan Fielder must have prepared himself for fan reaction when he decided to go to the Getty the weekend after that crazy finale. So I wonder if he decided to assume his deadpan inflection for all fan interactions at the museum. As a little inside joke for himself and those he's with. And also give his fans a little treat.
I love also how it's said by 2 characters we've never seen before. All the characters spent the whole show trying to make everything about themselves and in the end some random townsmembers get the final say
Man there aren't enough people talking about this show. It's understandable, it's not the most accessible show for the masses, but it's seriously perfect at what it attempts and it's gonna be on my mind for a long long time.
I'm not sure how I feel about the supernatural stuff for the finale, but I really liked how it wrapped up all 3 characters. Asher basically gave his entire life to pleasing Whitney and being who she wants him to be. Once he finally is able to have something to pave his own life and be his own man, having a kid, the curse kills him. Whitney is free from him and her narcissism can fully be engulfed. Dougie fully digs into his own needs with trying to film Asher while his life is literally on the line, and it finally backfires on him and he finally realizes once Asher flies away how awful he is and that he is alone
Whitney was all excited when she saw the dream catcher. But then she saw "made in china" sticker. once she knew it wasnt a one of a kind authentic dreamcatcher made by a person of culture, then she no longer wanted it.
It's one of the few shows (or even just media projects) that still lingers on. The strength of the show is not in each episode individually, but in the series as a whole. I tried to capture the Curse in a video essay too, but had to narrow it down to just the visual style in order for it to make sense. The show does so much.
You bright up a lot of great details and concepts I had not thought of! It makes me want to rewatch the show. This feels like my first time seeing Sadie, but I did watch uncut gems in the background while I did other stuff. What do you think is the best first thing to watch from him? I love Fielder and have seen all of his major work.
Why does everyone forget Lisa Kudrow and The Comeback created the cringe reality spoof 20 years ago? Yes it was more comedic than The Curse, but people keep praising Nathan Fielder for his unique exploration of cringe and reality TV. The Comeback did that in 2005 and though many didn't get it at the time, it had such a cult following HBO brought it back for a second season 10 yrs later.
yessss so glad ive already seen multiple videos on this show, the show didnt have a lot of viewers but i knew it would resonate with people, i hope to see lots more discussion about it, i have been thinking about writing a review myself which i dont normally do its just got me thinking so much
i haven’t watched much of nathan’s solo work (i will be) but i am a big fan of the safdie brothers and this combo of benny and nathan was absolutely entrancing. and yes benny is such an incredible actor! dougie was such a douchebag i wanted to punch him the whole show. nathan is also incredible, being able to be so deadpan but so characterized still is absolutely amazing. emma was amazing too, everything about this show was fantastic imo. you can rewatch it so many times and still see things you didn’t notice the first time, or in my case things i forgot while i was watching it stoned. the score was so powerful, i think the musical aspect of a piece of media is one of the most important parts and they nailed it with this. i have more to say but we’d probably be here all day so i won’t go on, but this was a great video about a great show!! i’m glad someone’s talking about this
thanks for watching! glad you've loved the show as well. I would recommend watching The Rehearsal first if you want to get into more Nathan Fielder stuff. Even though it's more of a "reality tv show" it has a fascinating narrative. Nathan For You is also great, just more comedic self contained episodes. The episode "Finding Frances" is this amazing standalone documentary film that you could watch on it's own too.
Nathan Fielding should be cast as Richard Mayhew in 'Neverwhere'. He was born for this role and I am willing to repeat it in all comment sections and courts of law in which I am currently on trial.
Hey man, haven't watched the video yet but I wanna tell you that I've been a fan for years now, you deserve much more attention on your videos than you get.
Love the vid 👍 interesting point about the dream catcher scene.. but what I was focused on in that scene was the guy who says “I’m telling everyone”. Asher was furious.. and later the same guy shows up at the Somalian guy’s house and looks directly at the camera and he has no mouth. You think Asher cursed him?
One thing I still don't get is I thought Dougie was telling Asher that he thinks he was cursed when the accident happened. I thought maybe it could have been he started to fly away or something when the accident happened, and it was so crazy he just couldn't tell anyone about it? It sounded like he didn't want to tell Asher any details about the curse because it was so crazy.... I just don't understand what "the curse" that caused the crash could have been....being drunk isn't a curse, getting hit by another car isn't a curse....it had to have been something really out of the ordinary. Anyways, great video about a great series.

lol that’s awesome
Haha that must’ve been crazy talking to Nathan

Nathan probably rehearsed going to the getty 😄 @@Stress-Free-K
“So it’s for TV?” “Yeah, it’s for TV” being the final line is SOOOO good
Those weren’t actors either! That was a comment on the actual production!

i’m excited to rewatch it after that crazy finale, i haven’t stopped thinking about it for the last week
Whitney was all excited when she saw the dream catcher. But then she saw "made in china" sticker. once she knew it wasnt a one of a kind authentic dreamcatcher made by a person of culture, then she no longer wanted it.
The reason Whitney rejected the dreamcatcher was because it wasn't an original Native American piece. It had a sticker that said "Made in China".

The ending was perfect. The whole series I just kept coming back episode after episode and didn't really get why

Ooh I would recommend watching Good Time from the Safdies, showcases their style really well and Benny Safdie has a great performance in it too
i was SHOCKED to see the audience score on rotten tomatoes. insanity.
people just want to be spoon-fed a story without having to think for themselves
Is anyone paying attention to rotten tomatoes?? Why would anyone ever do that?
this is one of my all time favorite shows
I've been highkey scared to watch this. The secondhand embarrassment humor style really freaks me out even if it is hilarious.
yea I will admit the style isn’t for everyone, but I found it kinda developed the themes of the show in an interesting way.
Oh boy. Get ready for your worst fever dream then haha. I honestly couldn't recommend it more. I loved it. I'm the same way too.
It has intense secondhand embarrassment
We should be talking about the rehearsal

I think Whit rejected the gift because she saw it was made in china and not by native Americans I thought it was very on character from her
you actually kinda look like benny safdie
Hmm 🤔 interesting
I always thought he looked a bit like Nathan Fielder but lowkey he could be a mix of the two
I was going comment this too
I wish they fleshed out the story with the MAGA guy who wanted to buy Whitney’s house

Good vid agree with a lot of what you said about the show
im more concerned with the lamp taking up 25% of the screen.
Great video
