Rydo Blackman you make an incredibly good point sir. The only thing I would say is that I’m fairly sure you yourself was an apprentice at some point and was given an opportunity to show your skill set. I got so many things wrong as an apprentice but was extremely lucky to have an amazing boss. We need more Sparky’s coming in as there’s a huge deficit as more electricians are retiring then new apprentices are coming in, but fully respect your opinion. Stay safe buddy
Nick you really raised the bar on this I am so happy all of you are giving chances to the younger generation. As Adam is transitioning out to work with you you should get a second apprentice it would be great if it could be a young lady - more female sparks would be give a strong signal for the younger generation.
I have been telling you that for ages you won’t regret it and it will ease the burden on you and you are passing the knowledge on to the next generation. Once he becomes competent you can take on a bit more work. Be patient the young can assume things clear directions from you will help, and just put yourself in their position. Remember what you were like at that age.
Love the film noir counterposition between you and the apprentice love the safe isolation teach, lock out and tag out at CU top man...fantastic. Just teach him also about ensuring good contact on conductor points, and ghost voltages and eddys and to be able to discern when it’s actually live or not. Make sure he is also taking the time to do the reading and learning outside of the workplace.

When I was a kid (many years ago) I had a little ladybird book of electronics and in the village where I grew up in a young guy opened a TV repair shop. From that encounter, he befriended me and taught me how to solder, read circuit diagrams, understand multimeters etc. We travelled all over the Leeds area fixing peoples telly's etc and this led me to a career in the Royal Navy working on Radios, Radar weapons systems and eventually computers, something I now still do after leaving the Navy 35 years ago. I am still friends with TV Geoff all these years later, I still build electronic projects and program computers or fix software and hardware. Take the young lad on if he is keen
Well done Oscar, show us oldies that young people work hard. Well done Jordan, it is so important to give the next generation a chance in these horrific times.
Just what is needed right now, more apprentices learning a trade. If someone keen shows up wanting an opportunity to prove their worth and want to learn and willing to get stuck in, they're worth investing in!

As a manager of 70 people of mixed trades I have always found that having someone with the right attitude and keeness to do the best job they can is key. I am sure that with your guidance Jordan, Oscar would develop into a great asset for your company.
Great job Jorden. Seems a good lad and he listens to what you tell him and puts it into practice. He's a good time keeper and looks presentable. I would take a chance on him. He will do your company proud, he just needs to come out of his shell a little bit. 3 months trial and you'll know what he's really like as a person.

How does the apprenticeship work over there? In Ireland a company will hire the apprentice and the register him/her with the relevent authority. Is similar to phase 2. When you finish college you are a 4th year apprentice. Then phase 4 is onsite for 6 months to a year and then your a qualified electrician.
Its great to see ppl giving young lads the chance if they willing to learn and on time its a big thing and if your company is growing so fast then why not take him on and give Oscar 1 foot on the step to become an electrician nick bundy did it with Adam and now its paying off for him and will soon be doing jobs on his own with a van and who knows he mite have an apprentice in time 😉
@@craigmiller2035 yea it's great to see alright. I'd say Jordan would be a great teacher for any apprentice. But I don't know how the UK apprenticeship works. Jordan said Oscar was already registered with college and wanted to gain experience working with an electrician. Over here in Ireland an apprentice starts working with and electrician then gets registered for college.
Oscar seems a nice clean cut lad like yourself and is willing to learn the trade,I don't think you will go wrong if he was lucky to work with you, and he won't go wrong with you as a mentor

Take him on Jordan! You’ll both benefit from it and he couldn’t have a better tutor 👌🏻. Wish you’d had been looking a few months back as i am fairly local to you and been doing EICRs for over 20 years. Long time in the industry and was looking to join a small team.
Hi sir seems a nice lad . Not easy to find people who will give the commitment necessary , sadly even in a world where apprenticeships are hard to find a lot of young people seem genuinely surprised they have to work. Sadly a lot of my experience with apprentices was far from good . Constantly on their mobiles , failing to turn up for work , and a general feeling the world owns them a living . But it always grieved me knowing that out there were young people willing to be given the chance . No I blame those responsible for employing them in the first place . It was me and my fellow workers who had to deal with the unnecessary situation . I’m retired now but still miss the cut and thrust of working . But seeing this young man gives me some hope for the future Best wishes and kind regards Mike in the U.K.
Us newbies/oldies need to get work experience. Any ideas on how we break into the industry , some of us have qualifications but no one will take us on without the experience . Cheers
Nice one and he seems like just the sort of apprentice you can use! There is no better way to build your business and know that your team take the same attitude to workmanship as you do than to train them up yourself! I started my job on electrical engineering through an apprenticeship scheme and it was by far the best way to do it. They say that no knowledge is ever wasted. But I would respond that all knowledge is wasted unless you take the opportunity to pass it on to the next generation
Oscar looks like right material, clearly must have thought carefully about his approach before contacting, as you said made impression at that stage, then clearly made good self video, and then keen and punctual. If you do take him hope he appreciates his fortune to be apprenticed to you.
I wish I had that opportunity at that age. Instead, I was given absolutely no encouragement as a dyslexic person in high school. Now, as a 32 year old, I'm using my self taught experience in classic auto sparks, and robotics to work alongside fire, and ambulance service mechanics, a voluntary position. At the age I should have been doing an apprentice, the government really cocked up the contributions for employers to make schemes attractive, especially hampering those learners on the spectrum, and with dyslexia. Instead, I went on to dabble in Robot Wars, sat with a soldering iron every evening for many years, whilst my peers were out getting drunk. My library is full of ancient books on vintage telephony, dealing the inner workings of Strowger switches, and relays. It's really good to see younger folk getting the good start at something that they have an interest in.
Well done for giving this guy a job he will be good to have for you he seems like he wants to learn and you seem like a decent bloke and a great electrician I wished I had worked in my apprenticeship with someone like you, most men you work with are horrible or I may have had bad luck lol but anyway im past those days recently qualified waiting to do my inspection and testing also be cool if u made a video on what the inspection and testing exam is about like full detail. Cheers Jordan
I applaud anyone taking on an apprentice for the right reasons - there's far too many who just see apprentices as someone to exploit. One bit of advice for Oscar - 2 minutes is cutting things fine, always aim to be at least 5 minutes early on a 20 minute journey because you never know if there will be a hold up somewhere & being proactively prompt shows the right attitude. Other than that, best of luck!
Great to see you give the youth a chance, University is not the best route for all, having been an apprentice myself I know it gives such a broad exposure to experience. My disappointment at the moment is current "apprenticeships" are so watered down with many being cheap labour and little training. Oscar looks keen and willing, if you don't give him a chance I hope someone else does.
Very interesting seeing how different safety requirements are around the world. Here in Italy we don’t test 230 socket so careful before operating maintenance. In fact, here in Italy every electrician has getting shocked at least one time 😮. On the other hand, safety shoes are mandatory for electricians 😏
For the lamp repair would you charge them hourly or do you quote it prior? I'm interested in how you go about quoting or getting the job for something like that?

There is no better way to build your business and know that your team take the same attitude to workmanship as you do than to train them up yourself!
I started my job on electrical engineering through an apprenticeship scheme and it was by far the best way to do it.
They say that no knowledge is ever wasted. But I would respond that all knowledge is wasted unless you take the opportunity to pass it on to the next generation
another smashing video Jordan, great job
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello Oscar.. huge salute from Bahrain.. U r great
👍
Oscar looks like right material, clearly must have thought carefully about his approach before contacting, as you said made impression at that stage, then clearly made good self video, and then keen and punctual. If you do take him hope he appreciates his fortune to be apprenticed to you.
Well done Óscar. I hope Jordan keep you in the team.
Nice one Jordan, you have to ask yourself, where would I be if someone hadn't taken me on as an apprentice? If you can, do it.
Not seen Oscar for a while. What has happened to him and doesa he still work for Artisan?
🤦♂️ you checked the load cable to the cooker was dead but the isolator was off.
🙂
Very smiley and seems like he loves his job. Big future ahead of you Oscar😎
So when does Oscar get his company Tesla? Really nice of you to give him a chance.
I reckon Jordan gets the Model Y (more boot space, obviously), and Oscar gets the model 3.
Good luck Oscar!
Very interesting seeing how different safety requirements are around the world.
Here in Italy we don’t test 230 socket so careful before operating maintenance. In fact, here in Italy every electrician has getting shocked at least one time 😮.
On the other hand, safety shoes are mandatory for electricians 😏
Apprentice him only if he's subscribed to your channel!
For the lamp repair would you charge them hourly or do you quote it prior?
I'm interested in how you go about quoting or getting the job for something like that?
