Although you said two years was longer than anticipated for the renovation, I am astounded at all the work you were able to complete in those years, from walls, windows, entire kitchen, bathroom, and the exterior walls and porch, wow! To design, plan, procure components and accomplish mostly by yourselves in that time is amazing! So talented!! I bet you were so happy to put in the last touches. Beautiful! Enjoy!
Again another great video I've been waiting for, for ages! I loved the opening scene where you were walking in bare feet in the frost. It reminded me of my home in New Zealand ❤ So hot in Perth I miss that crisp morning dew
For my personal preference, I would try to create more roundness in little places throughout, to offset all of those straight lines and overall squareness and also just to create more visual interest. For example, I would round off that doorway connecting the living room to the kitchen with an arch, place a round area rug in the living room, and have an oval shaped dining table (which would also just be more comfortable and practical to sit at and maneuver around when getting in and out of the wraparound bench seating). Perhaps add a rounded headboard over the bed and maybe a long, cylindrical throw pillow on it. I also would have used an arched, semicircle window, or maybe an octagonal one, for the front door. The only other thing I would have loved to see (and couldn't resist doing on a house like this) is adding a double opening dutch door off the kitchen! It's so nice, especially when you're cooking and with that view, to have that opened up, nice and bright, with all of the fresh air and breeze coming in! It's also great for serving the outside patio and keep any pets or young children from going in or out. Plus, it just goes so well with the cottage vibes and aesthetic of the home! This is absolutely stunning and perfect tho! The craftsmanship and attention to detail, that went into the building and designing of this home, is so well done! You guys really did such a fantastic job! 😊

Yay! Got to see a house tour! It turned out beautiful with smart choices of moving the door of the bathroom and giving the kitchen an extra wall for space. It's looks larger than the 600 sq. ft. size, with a good sized kitchen and bathroom. I love the little wood burning stove, too. Sander does excellent work and am impressed that this was his first kitchen. It's very cozy and anyone would be happy to stay there. The color selections for the interior and exterior... and decor, are perfect for the backdrop of the meadow and natural beauty of your property. The birdhouse in the gable is genius, with a camera installed. You'll have to show us any progress of a nest. Very charming. 🧡 A job well done, Summer and Sander. :)
Thanks for those kind words. We agree that the space feels much larger than 600 sq feet and think we were able to use every bit of space wisely. The birdhouse is absolutely hands down one of my favorite additions. We hope that we can actually livestream that if a bird moves in next spring. We'll see. My bet is that if it'll be anything, it'll be a tree swallow since they seem to be fearless of humans, and we had one build their nest in the box on the Common House too. We'll see!

Great!!! I like very much your dress Summer Rayne. I like all the colors. I like the furnitures the thinks. The bathroom is excellent, because the two windows provide light to the bathroom and also the decoration give something special to the space. A bathroom without a window is like a prison. Congratulations!!!!
Yeah, it was a seasonal office at first, so they would drain the toilet and shut it down in winter typically. Luckily for us it was insulated well enough and had good bones for us to really make a few changes to get it to a place where someone could occupy it 4 seasons out of the year.
The Saunder and Summer I see here exude a wisdom and presence of mind so different from what I remember from videos back from 2018. You have let the land shape and inspire you, like waves and sand shape driftwood. And you’ve shared your ever-growing love for the land with all of us, with the most splendid of projects. Bravo. This is just so perfect! Sander combines creativity, design sense and an almost OCD attention to detail that makes for an outstanding finished product. Summer brings similar talents, but in a slightly different combination, so they make the ultimate dream team. Any chance this will be a short-term rental in the future? Can't think of a better place to be the next time we are able to spend time in our old stomping grounds in the Finger Lakes. You should be very proud.
Such a sweet comment. Thank you for that. At this stage, this will be a place for one of us to stay in, especially now that the Common House will undergo renovations. But when our families or friends come in, this place will be for them. We don't think we will be AirBnBing this out largely because it's a bit persnickety with the care, like the tadelakt and the travertine; but we're considering other places in the future that maybe will be a bit more acceptable for outside guests.

I’ve been following the Flock journey from the start, and knowing Saunders penchant for perfection in the details, and Summer’s incredible style and connectedness with nature I was anticipating a fabulous product. Yet here I am completely amazed at how incredibly thoughtful and gorgeous the meadow house has turned out. It is stunningly spectacular in its use of materials and space. Bravo!
Suggestion for landscaping: live williow fence. Maybe to replace the deer fence. 1) you can use it to make baskets 2) its natural live plant and will get stronger with time/age. 😮 My face when I saw the whole cutting station design, its just so well thought out. I will be adding that to my dream house pinterest board. Even though it wasn't mentioned in the video I definitely also noticed that the back screen door had the triangle design. I can hardly wait to see what the back...garden will look like.
This may sound a bit wild but this makes my heart hurt and brings tears to my eyes, not kidding. A dream home I will never experience because the price of buying a home is so out of reach now. Your meadow cottage is so lovely. I especially love the clay walls. Yes, they do still make that wainscoting, but it's pretty expensive if you get it as separate boards. Just one thing... Appalachia is pronounced Apple-A-cha - the "A" rhymes with "back". Like the rest of the house, inside and out, Saunders' kitchen is really nice! And your windows are not opaque. If they were, you'd see no light through them at all and the dreamy quality of the bathroom would not exist.They're translucent - you can see light through them, but can't clearly see what's on the other side. I love the birdhouse in the gable - like a dovecote, but for only one nesting bird. Also, great tip on the hardware - that's where to splurge. It makes such a difference! OMG Summer! The Meadow House turned out so much better than I imagined when you guys first started this project. The design of the building, the craftsmanship that Sander and the other local craftsmen provided, and the interior decoration is beautifully on display throughout the house! I remember watching in amazement the Moroccan Tatelak process being lovingly applied to the walls and Sander's detail in the workworking. Your interior design is matched only by your design of the property's gardens and houseplant placements. This video sings of the cozy and peaceful environment you intended to create. I'm just amazed that this is the same place that began as a shabby, neglected office! You guys have done a wonderful job and must be over-the-top proud. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. This cottage is so cozy and the thought process of making it was so amazing. This is my ideal home when I retire. It’s so functional and everything that one can asked for.
It's a great home to age with because it's really open, with wide doors, easy access in the bathroom and all one floor. Very easy to maneuver around. One of the barn restorers here in the area had asked for the plans because he too felt it a perfect space and layout to have.

Really enjoyed seeing the finished product of the cottage reno. I loved all the natural materials you used for the bedding and accessories. Only thing i wanted to see was either a dual flush or composting toilet as part of the bathroom. Maybe also a grey water system with a weeping pond set up... would be great.
I will be retiring and downsizing in a few years and am thrilled to find this video as this cottage is perfect! I plan on using this plan for my retirement home!

If they were, you'd see no light through them at all and the dreamy quality of the bathroom would not exist.They're translucent - you can see light through them, but can't clearly see what's on the other side. I love the birdhouse in the gable - like a dovecote, but for only one nesting bird. Also, great tip on the hardware - that's where to splurge. It makes such a difference! OMG Summer! The Meadow House turned out so much better than I imagined when you guys first started this project. The design of the building, the craftsmanship that Sander and the other local craftsmen provided, and the interior decoration is beautifully on display throughout the house! I remember watching in amazement the Moroccan Tatelak process being lovingly applied to the walls and Sander's detail in the workworking. Your interior design is matched only by your design of the property's gardens and houseplant placements. This video sings of the cozy and peaceful environment you intended to create. I'm just amazed that this is the same place that began as a shabby, neglected office! You guys have done a wonderful job and must be over-the-top proud. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. This cottage is so cozy and the thought process of making it was so amazing. This is my ideal home when I retire. It’s so functional and everything that one can asked for.
It's a great home to age with because it's really open, with wide doors, easy access in the bathroom and all one floor. Very easy to maneuver around. One of the barn restorers here in the area had asked for the plans because he too felt it a perfect space and layout to have.

The meadow house is very beautiful and cozy. You may have to watch the woodpeckers on the siding.
Really enjoyed seeing the finished product of the cottage reno. I loved all the natural materials you used for the bedding and accessories. Only thing i wanted to see was either a dual flush or composting toilet as part of the bathroom. Maybe also a grey water system with a weeping pond set up... would be great.

We had under bench storage in our dinette. Dad made it with the outside walls uninsulated so that we could then use the space for root vegetables.
